The Lakers were unhappy enough about the officiating in their one-point loss to Miami on Monday that they complained to the league office, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
They were particularly upset about non-calls involving LeBron James, believing Heat defenders were allowed to get away with illegal contact. He only shot four free throws. Coach Darvin Ham spoke about it after the game.
“I see Bron shooting four free throws and the amount of times he attacked the rim, the amount of times he was slapped on the arm, which I could see plain as day, for that not to be called, man … he’s not flopping,” Ham said.
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Keita Bates-Diop is providing the Suns’ starting lineup with a little more size, Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic notes. Bates-Diop’s presence at power forward allows Kevin Durant to slide to the small forward spot. “He’s giving good length and defense and rebounding,” coach Frank Vogel said. Bates-Diop was signed to a two-year, veteran’s minimum contract this summer that includes a player option.
- Stephen Curry will turn 36 in March and he could become the oldest player to win the Most Valuable Player award if he keeps up his current pace, Kendra Andrews of ESPN notes. Curry is averaging 30.9 points on 55.1% shooting from the field, 46.5% from beyond the arc and 94.4% from the free throw line. “The sky is the limit,” Klay Thompson said. “He might change the narrative of what it looks like to be elite till you’re 40. LeBron is doing the same and Steph is following suit.”
- Terance Mann is listed as questionable to play against Brooklyn on Wednesday due to an ankle injury. When Mann is available, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer believes the Clippers wing should start ahead of Russell Westbrook. He would provide better defense, spot-up shooting, and cutting in a starting unit in need of those qualities, O’Connor opines.
Amazing watching Curry tire out players a dozen years younger than him. All he needs to do is stay healthy all years and just hit the 3s.
Guarding him is so hard it put Dellavadova in the hospital lolllols
LeBron whining about the officiating yet again. How many phantom calls has he benefitted from throughout his career based on who he is? LOL and some folks have the audacity to call this guy the GOAT
Few years back, LeBron led nba in minutes played. Something like 37min/game. Same season, he averaged 1.7 fouls per game. That was 200th plus in the league. And I don’t believe he fouled out once that season. How does a guy lead the league in minutes, never foul out and only get called for less than 2 fouls per game? How, his name is LeBron James and he has nothing to whine about BUT he’ll always complain about not getting enough free throws.
in fact he’s led league in minutes several times and averaged over 2 fouls/game in those same seasons
He doesn’t play full speed on defense. His best defense is trailing or weak side help. 1 on 1 he olays a lot or funnels.
Because he understands how to defend and NOT put hold himself in foul trouble? He understands that the best thing he can do is be available. And I’m positive he doesn’t get the benefit of obvious fouls especially when he drives to the rim and gets hammered. Saw it when I was a Cavs fan and supported him and when he went to the Heat and I hated him.
Only lebron could headline espn by whining abt fouls
Ham- Id be more pissed at Dlo for bumping the ref which ultimately lead to Cam being on the floor in the last minute
I still have no clue what either party (Cam and Lakers Fo) were thinking with this signing. DNP-ville cant come soon enough
There was plenty of illegal contact delivered by the Lakers to the Heat players as well.
Considering how well the Lakers complaining worked last season (refs apologized, and then they got absurd favorable free throw margins the rest of the year), it was probably a smart move.
