NOVEMBER 1: The trade is official, according to press releases from all three teams. The terms of the deal are as follows:
- Clippers acquire James Harden, P.J. Tucker, and Filip Petrusev.
- Sixers acquire Marcus Morris; Nicolas Batum; Robert Covington; Kenyon Martin Jr.; the Clippers’ 2028 first-round pick (unprotected); either the Rockets’ (top-four protected), Clippers’, or Thunder’s 2026 first-round pick (whichever is least favorable); the right to swap their own 2029 first-round pick with the Clippers’ 2029 first-round pick (top-three protected); a 2024 second-round pick (details below); the Clippers’ 2029 second-round pick; and cash ($2MM; from Clippers).
- Note: The 2024 second-round pick acquired by the Sixers will be either the Raptors’, Pacers’, Jazz’s, or Cavaliers’ pick, whichever is most favorable. If either the Jazz’s or Cavaliers’ pick is the most favorable, Philadelphia would instead receive the second-most favorable of the four.
- Thunder acquire the right to swap either their own 2027 first-round pick or the Nuggets’ 2027 first-round pick (top-five protected) for the Clippers’ 2027 first-round pick (unprotected) and cash ($1.1MM; from Clippers).
As expected, Danny Green was waived by the Sixers in order to make room for the incoming players.
Harden received the maximum portion of his trade bonus ($40,595) that he could while still making the deal legal for salary-matching purposes, Hoops Rumors has learned.
OCTOBER 31: The Sixers are shipping star guard James Harden to the Clippers, his latest destination of choice, sources inform Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
According to Wojnarowski, Philadelphia is sending out Harden, veteran forward P.J. Tucker and rookie center Filip Petrusev to Los Angeles in exchange for forwards Kenyon Martin Jr., Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum and Robert Covington, plus some significant future draft equity.
The 76ers will receive the Clippers’ 2028 unprotected first-round draft pick, two second-rounders and a 2029 pick swap, as well as an additional first-round pick. That extra first-round pick the Sixers are acquiring in the blockbuster deal is a 2026 first-rounder that had been controlled by the Thunder, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
According to Wojnarowski (via Twitter), the Thunder will receive a 2027 first-round pick swap from the Clippers in exchange for that 2026 first-rounder. Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports reports (via Twitter) that the 2026 first-round selection the Thunder are trading to Philadelphia will be the least favorable of the Clippers’ pick, OKC’s own pick, and Houston’s selection (top-four protected).
The two second-round picks the Clippers are trading to the Sixers are 2024 and 2029 selections, sources tell Wojnarowski. The ’29 pick will be Los Angeles’ own, but the Clips have already traded away their own 2024 second-round pick, so the other second-rounder in this deal will be one of two others that L.A. controls (one is Toronto’s pick; the other could be Indiana’s, Utah’s, or Cleveland’s).
Philadelphia wing Danny Green is being cut to create an open roster spot for the new additions from the Clippers, sources tell Wojnarowski. Green’s salary had only been partially guaranteed for $200K.
According to Wojnarowski, the Sixers and Clippers – who have had conversations about Harden for months – began talking again over the weekend following L.A.’s recent “pause” in negotiations, with Philadelphia recognizing it was becoming increasingly untenable to incorporate Harden back into its lineup.
This will bring the latest Harden trade request saga to a close. The 10-time All-Star opted into the final season of his current contract, worth $35.6MM, and immediately requested a trade rather than joining a new team in free agency. It was the third time in three years that he had sought a change of scenery via trade — he was originally dealt from Houston to Brooklyn in 2021, then from Brooklyn to Philadelphia in 2022.
Following his June trade request, Harden made some explosive comments over the summer about Sixers team president Daryl Morey, calling him a “liar” and saying he had no intention of being part of the same organization as Morey. When the NBA launched an investigation into those comments, Harden informed league investigators that he called Morey a liar because he told the former MVP he’d be traded “quickly” after he asked to be moved. The incident cost him $100K.
Harden skipped media day and the first day of training camp before reporting to the 76ers this fall. He participated in just one 5-on-5 scrimmage and no preseason games before leaving the team again for what was described as a personal matter, only to return after a 10-day absence. He has missed all of Philadelphia’s regular season games to this point as he continues to ramp up to game shape.
Harden struggled with injuries in 2022/23. Though the 34-year-old was clearly no longer in his athletic prime, he remained his prolific self while playing alongside eventual MVP Joel Embiid. Across 58 regular season contests, he averaged 21.0 points per game on .441/.385/.867 shooting, also contributing 10.7 assists, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per night.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Harden is “ecstatic” to be joining the Clippers alongside fellow Southern California natives Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Russell Westbrook. Los Angeles has long sought a play-making point guard who can stretch the floor alongside its two star forwards and will now insert Harden into that role for at least the 2023/24 season.
Harden is on an expiring contract and won’t become extension-eligible before reaching unrestricted free agency next July. Leonard, George, and Westbrook all have 2024/25 player options, so they could also hit the open market after the season if things don’t go well in L.A., though Leonard and George remain eligible to sign extensions before then.
Harden is hoping to fly to Los Angeles right away and there’s a chance he’ll attend the Clippers’ home game against Orlando on Tuesday, Shelburne adds, though it will likely still be a few days before he makes his debut for his new team.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Clippers will hang onto Petrusev, tweets Law Murray of The Athletic, though Tucker is in their plans.
While the Sixers won’t land Terance Mann – whose inclusion in the deal was long believed to be a sticking point – they’ll acquire four players on expiring contracts and get out from under Tucker’s 2024/25 player option, further increasing their cap flexibility for the summer of 2024. They project to have between $50-65MM in space next offseason, tweets ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
The draft assets and expiring contracts the Sixers are acquiring from Los Angeles also put Philadelphia in position to make another pre-deadline trade to further reinforce its roster. The 76ers are expected to scour the trade market for another “high-level guard,” writes Wojnarowski.
The four players the Sixers are adding in this deal will be ineligible to have their salaries aggregated in a separate trade for the next two months, but could be flipped immediately as long as they’re not being combined with other players for salary-matching purposes.
Meanwhile, as Marks observes (via Twitter), Harden’s contract includes a $5.1MM trade bonus, which Philadelphia would be responsible for paying. However, based on the terms that have been reported so far, he would have to waive most or all of that bonus for the trade to be legal.
The Clippers’ projected luxury tax bill is projected to increase by approximately $29MM once the deal is finalized, Marks adds (via Twitter), while the Sixers’ projected tax bill will dip by $13.4MM.

In 2017 this team would be scary
I dunno….with the exception of KL it’s a bunch of dudes that put up great stats but can’t win chips.
In 2023-4 now it’s betting whether or not all 4 of these guys play in the same game more than 10 times this year.
Somewhere in all of this Westbrook is wondering what did he do wrong to get paired up with Harden, yet again for the third time.
Except they are friends and he boosts their chances of winning significantly. He was a 4 vorp player last year in a system that was terrible for him. The james harden slander has to stop. You may not like him as a person but hes top 20 all time by vorp. He’s clearly doing things right on the court.
So is the Clippers’ system going to be better for him?
Harden has earned every bit of criticism.
Vorp vorp vorp. Said it more than you now.
Life is cruel sometimes lol …..
Meanwhile Embid’s prime keeps getting shorter
harden is a magician
Not really. Philly had to choose between giving Harden what he wants and losing Embiid either at the deadline or in the offseason. Not a lot of wiggle room in the east to start the season with a giant distraction (something they’ve done for the last 3 years). If he would have signed in Houston he would have been a magician.
Still might lose Embiid, nothing they get in this deal will be better than even Tobias.
I agree
You can just use the like button you know.
That 28 pick could be if the clippers can’t win with all 30+ year old players.
Embiid will be 34-35 by the time that pick matures.
He could be done by then, but that draft pick needs kept. Unprotected picks that far out from a team full of 30 year olds are worth gold.
He is a magician. Every year in the playoffs he disappears!
2-13 from 3 game 7! Mr no show
Next year we’ll all read a post titled “James Harden unhappy in LA”.
Not unless he signs an extension he’s only got this year.
Nah, even if he did, we’ll still be reading that same post…
We finally get to see who burns more bridges, James Harden, or Kyrie Irving!
The fact that it’s 1AM CT and the details aren’t out is cruel and unusual punishment from Woj!
Yes details are out
It’s Siakam or bust this off-season for the Embiid era to continue.
Great job by the clippers outbidding no one
Morey got exactly what he wanted and more. Not only did he get the two firsts and a swap he got two seconds too. People here said he wouldn’t get a star for Simmons. Now he pulls off this. Enough with doubting him.
A former MVP multiple scoring titles, coming off a 20-10 season. To get a couple picks and filler isn’t something to be praising him for. Embiid will be looking outside if Maxey don’t take a very big leap this year.
He demanded out because Morey lied and wouldn’t pay. He’s got a low return from a situation he caused. Not really good business.
I love how you framed that. He is a 34 year old former MVP on a one year contract that can’t be extended and this is his 3rd trade demand in 4 years. It’s not like trading Dame or KD.
You forgot to mention that he totally disappears in clutch playoff games…
Great trade for sixers. Two firsts, two seconds, first round swap, expiring tradeable assets that contribute. Clippers blinked.
It didn’t take long to see that the Sixers won this trade in both the long and short term. The Sixers are a much better team without Harden, the role players they got are helping and test the Sixers have much more cap space, draft picks and flexibility to improve. Harden will implode into a distraction for the Clippers. This trade looks better every day !
Morey is a fraud and so are you moron sixers are Choking Losers
Morey is a counter. Like counting picks lol.
What star did he get for Simmons. A washed Harden. Plus he gave up picks. He’s lucky Clippers are opening a new arena. Or they never would have done this trade. So the basketball gods have shined on Sixers. Moreyon is still who he is a counter.
Yeah he’s 34 and on an expiring. But he’s also assist leader last year, can still put up 60 and is arguably less injury prone than PG/Kawahi. Not to mention his style of play uses almost zero athleticism, it’s not like he’ll get injured making a highlight dunk. Or even “running” up the floor. He’ll sell jerseys and fill seats which is what they want. I don’t like the move for the clips, but I see the reasoning.
But you say this like he’s a wash & erratic. He left Rockets to compete, left Nets because Kyrie was screwing any chance and finally left Philly because of Morey.
Kyrie has had more drama, played less and still recouped arguably more value in trade. However it’s spun, Morey lied and cost Philly a very good player and gained a couple picks and filler. I doubt they’ll get a player the level they want/need, without losing Maxey. Then like I said, it’s bye bye Joel.
He is washed and erratic at no point in his career has he ever performed in a series when it mattered.
Very true, but like I said I’m not sure that’s why they got him. They already have a clutch player in 2x finals MVP Kawahi.
He’s there to be a 3rd behind Kawahi and George and take over when they’re injured, and still has the talent to pass both as #1 scoring option if he wanted. Washed is not a guy that puts up 20+ nightly, leads the league in dimes or can take over and put on a show at will. The playoffs he’ll sit back, because like you said he isn’t clutch(which is not the same as erratic or washed up), but does he really need to be with the other around him? Effectively they now have 4 players who can go off if one or two disappear in a series or get injured.
And regarding depth, they lost RoCo, Batum and Morris but gained PJ, it’s hardly a decimation of depth, KJ will be a loss for them though, I rate him. The 4 shipped wouldn’t get loads of mins. And there are still some reasonable pieces in FA that may be viable. But to get him without losing Mann &/or bones is a good result. But I still don’t like the move itself for Clippers though…. Or Philly.
DeRozan is very doable trade for the 76er’s and he would give them a puncher chance in the East. Bulls need to rebuild!
“enough with doubting him”? Philly is still a mess dude.
A mess? We are looking pretty good without Harden to start..I kind of like our mess. We all we got, we all we need!
Nurse is a very good coach. I think it will be a good season.
That comment didn’t age well. The Sixers are revitalized without Harden !
What a bad deal for the clippers . They did not need harden and lost a lot of good role players who I rather have than harden. This will explode for the clippers . Btw espn reported the details of the trade
They didn’t play Morris and Covington so they didn’t lose good role players. They get frequent DNPs even in the playoffs when they were short handed.
Batum and Tucker wash each other out to me.
I think Martin can be decent, he was young could have been nice energy.
Batum, KMJ, Cov were all in the rotation with Cov in the top 5 for min played. They lost a lot of role players and a lot of well sized contracts for salary matching, which had value, and Marcus Morris which didnt…
I’m guessing Morey folded on his request as the clippers have started the year well. Russ has looked great as has Bones coming off the bench. I seen Terrance Mann was out recently and RoCo started which is odd but interesting to see if he’s included and expected out long term or what…
Either way as a Sixers fan I’m just glad it’s done. Maxey has been magnificent in replacing Harden so far and even if it’s just role players they will atleast add something in terms of depth. Hopefully no more Danuel House and Furkan Korkmaz. Either way I don’t think it’s done just yet and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more trades unfold after this one ….
Updated: 4 forwards (RoCo Batum Morris and Martin) with PJ leaving. Tobias will remain a starter but that would open a hole at the starting SF position which I’m hoping RoCo fills. He’s similar to PJ in the fact he’s happy to take only 5 shots a game from the corner and just be a solid defender. Hoping we keep Marcus Morris as he is a Philly born and raised kid, he’d be great coming off the bench with Kelly Oubre and Pat Beverly. Which gives us our top 8 of the rotation, and everyone after that can still be up for grabs in other trades….
Also happy with the picks, happy for Harden. He gets to end up in LA on the team he wants to play for with his mate Russ and should get a good chance at success with them. End of the day Morrey did him dirty but now it’s time to move on from that. Glad that’s settled and looking forward to what is to come cause I’m expecting more
RoCo is washed.
As for the Clippers the main question seems to be are they left with enough depth …
Harden PG Kawhi Tucker Zubac
Russ Bones Mann Powell Plumblee
Boston Coffey Petrusev
Obviously very guard heavy but they have enough names their to make up numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make another deal and try add a forward or two and I’m sure it won’t be hard for them to find something.
Some options
-Norman Powell for DFS
-Norman Powell and BJ Boston for Thad Young and Garret Temple
-Terrance Mann for Kyle Anderson, Leonard Miller and a second round pick
Personally I like the Toronto deal. Think Thad still has stuff to offer, Temple is a locker room pick up and you add back a pick. Best of all they are all expiring deals which equals money off the books and more tax savings when you pay your stats who need extensions. Raptors aren’t using Thad or Temple both guys are listed as being in their 5th team on the ESPN depth charts. They could do with Powells scoring and shooting ability tho and Boston is a decent prospect if you can be bothered with him.
They still need to release the info on the 3rd team who is apparently giving up a 1st. Would Mann be sent there as I don’t see a team giving up a 1st just for charity. None of those old players are being flipped for a 1st. OKC or Utah since they have picks? OKC still has some of LACs future picks maybe they give one back in exchange for one a year down the line.
If they end up trading Mann after acting like he is Jordan in his prime I’m going to laugh.
Bout damn time!
Decent deal for the Sixers, those picks are the main attraction. Cov,Batum and Morris are ok as forward/wing depth, but KJ Martin is who i hope gets a chance because i think he’s a bit underrated.
Harden gets to go where he wants, and as a Sixers fan i’m glad he’s gone. He quit in back-2-back years and thought Morey was going to hand him a bag. He’s likely to get it with the Clips since Ballmer has no choice with this 2017-2018 All-star lineup and building a new stadium, lol. PJ Tucker is a good teammate and hustles his butt off, but he’s how old with another year left on his deal….thanks for the time PJ.
I’m going to fix the 2nd paragraph for you.
Harden gets to go where he wants, 76ers fans don’t realize what they’re losing. He gave up millions of dollars, balled out, fed Embiid an MVP and rightfully expected Morey to hand him a bag. He’ll likely get it with the Clippers as he’s still a better players than 80% of the league. Yet again the 76ers won’t get past the 2nd round and we’ll be one season closer to when Embiid asks for a trade.
Harden is an over-the-hill career loser whose done nothing but shrink in the spotlight and forced his way out of 3 franchises now.
Enjoy watching Harden stumble into the paint, get stripped of the ball and flail his arms like the drama queen he is. Then stand and look at the ref while the other team goes on another fastbreak and Harden hangs his team out to dry.
Harden stans are an odd bunch
Yeah I don’t even understand the language they use…
It’s not English… It’s some kind of backwards pig latin or something…
Oh we realize exactly what we are losing. A washed up, petulant, man child who will blame everyone but the man in the mirror, despite QUITTING ON HIS TEAM IN THE PLAYOFFS. Harden is delusional and thinks he is still the player he once was when he is probably half of what he was at best, it’s pathetic to watch. He will never win a championship, the guy has loser energy, and I am so glad he is gone
Good trade.
May as well write the headlines now – “Harden insists Clippers organisation is the problem, wants out”
“This at least will end the latest Harden trade request saga.”
*the Latest trade request saga
give it time
A bad deal for the 76s. Clippers won this trade by miles. Should of insisted on getting Mann. 76s already had a PF and SF and now they get more. Maybe Covington will be happy to be back with the team that gave him a shot. 76s went from title contender to back in the process( of losing again). If the clippers can all stay healthy and play together they should be a top team. Get ready to trade Joel E or watch him walk. F- for the 76s. Marcus Morris is going to help the 76s win it all smh. These teams love picks to much. 76s want picks to start over. Should just trade Joel for picks too since you made this deal for picks. Maybe the clippers won’t always be the clippers. Clippers with a home run with this one. Traded spare parts for a good SG. Clippers should start PG. Westbrook SG. Harden SF. George PF. Leonard C. Plumlee(age as the other starters) Sixth men. Bones, Powell, Mann, Tucker and Zubac. Clippers also have young players at every position. Waive Perv Primo. A+ clippers
What an awful take
What a awful take you have. Go away casual
How is it a bad trade getting rid of a dude who doesn’t want to be there, getting draft capital and clearing more cap space?
Who said that. Not him. He just said only awful take and that is it. Go away hater
Why is he a hater? Because he doesn’t agree with you?
Try reading something and then commenting
That take sure aged poorly ! The Sixers won this trade both in the long term but also in the short term. They are playing with a whole new energy !
I’d give it until the trade deadline until he demands to be traded somewhere else..
Looks like the Sixers have performed well enough in the first three games for them to realize they’re in decent shape now and adding role players instead of a star will be okay for their immediate future. I think Maxey’s performance helped trigger this trade now.
That had to help Morey take a smaller offer than he was posturing…
Maybe he had a look at some game tape from last years playoffs, or finally did the maths on them and figured Harden had lost his value…
76ers and Clippers made an absolute mess of this trade…
Clippers for whatever reason decided that Brooklyn did the right thing with having 4 ageing stars…
The difference is that 2 of them have been toast for years on this Clippers team…
While the 76ers got some much needed depth they didn’t get anyone who screams “starter in the NBA” and it just looks like Morey caved and took the only deal that was on the table…
Slight overpay but clips were already all in so they were forced to do this
Harden struggled with injuries in 21/22, not 22/23
He was healthy for the most part last season
I am just happy that this is over, Harden and that damn chicken wing move of his, I hope LA enjoys it
SMH
Embiid will still leave…
And clippers will still not win the title! A pure fair trade where nobody wins
This changes nothing for Embiid, that is he still isn’t leaving.
Embiid is gone.
Why play for one of the worst run franchises in the NBA.
Buckle up Sixer fan, this is happening again, Part 3 next summer.
1) Simmons, 2) Harden, 3) Embiid. Nobody wants to play for your team.
Maxey is next, but he will sign his extension first, then demand a trade.
No one likes us we don’t care
You forgot Butler, he didn’t ask for a trade but he got the hell up on outta there first chance he got.
Clippers got the best player in the trade. Sixers getting 4 draft picks an swaps is a big deal. Moving PJ Tuckers money is also a big deal.
Lot of expiring deals now if he wants to make a deadline deal. Would be funny if the Clippers deal Mann for that mystery 1st.
Philly has all of its picks plus two more. They also have matching salary. Brogdon would make for a good trade for them.
Brogdon could be a nice addition indeed.
Portland “doesn’t want to let him go”, but that could also be a way to drive up the asking price.
Not sure if Brogdon will move before December 15th, when more trades become available.
But a possible trade is Morris + Korkmaz + Martin Jr with the last two players fitting trade exceptions, creating a new one with a later expiry date for Portland. And then either some players traded onwards or another player sent to Philadelphia (Toumani?).
are this point I’m waiting for him to demand to be traded to the Lakers because he wants to play at a better facility
2 or 3 Stripper Clubs went out of business in Philly.
Getting 2 1st rd picks for an expired player on an expiring contract is a great deal for Philly.
Harden again disappears for Clips in 1st round loss.
Even at the end of the year and Harden being a Free Agent will ask for a trade. Signs a contract next year and promptly demands a trade.
Can you imagine if Harden had ever been a teammate of Michael Jordan? Rodman wouldn’t have even put up with Harden.
Goodbye, Good riddance and I hope the lap dances in LA make you happy.
DISGUSTING HUMAN BEING!
Wow Plus an extra first round pick !! Philly’s patience helped them make out here. They’re playing well, they get two first round picks and a swap and a couple second round picks. With the bunch of bench guys as well, its not too shabby.
Very curious to see what OKC receives for that Clippers first round pick.
The Bulls are going to end up with all these picks…
Curious what OKC is getting to give up the protections on the Clippers 2026 first round pick.
I don’t think Clippers are letting Mann go, so what could the alternative be?
Part of the agreement could be moving off of Bertans, who would be going to the Clippers instead of PJ Tucker? Maybe Amir Coffey and/or Bones Hyland going to OKC, with Pokucevcki going the other way? Don’t see any other really expendable contracts with OKC.
Getting cash and multiple 2nd round picks could sweeten the deal.
Trading Harden was necessary. He is a cancer and it’s addition by subtraction especially since the Sixers were playing well without him. It really didn’t matter that much what they got back at this point, now he’s the Clippers problem.
The draft capital received was the key as the rest are throwaways that will open up cap space next year. I expect some of these guys to be released or retraded.
Harden wings again
Maybe so , if you call moving to a new team to become a cancer winning. I’ll take the Sixers for the win.
Don’t let the door hit you on the ass
Didnt Harden Open that door and force everyone through it?
I dont Harden cares what you or any Sixers fan thinks…just a guess.
All he did was cry when he didn’t get what he wanted based on the speculation that he was lied to. Maybe just maybe James… you lied to yourself?
And we don’t give a damn what he says or thinks either so…. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass and be sure to unpack your box of Kleenex when you land at LAX. You’ll probably need them when you don’t get your way and force your way out from another team. Again
Just a guess…..
Finally …… it’s sad seeing where Clippers are heading. Not too long ago things were looking up. Now it’s all about injuries. And how good players used to be.
Always said they should include PJ.
If Sixers get another 1st rd pick as reported. Then it’s a big win for them. This team doesn’t need Harden. He would only get in the way of Maxey’s development. Now if they can get a player at TD. Then this year can still be a contending year. Although it will be tough with Bucks, Celtics retooling.
At worst they are in a good place for next year.
The worst thing a team can do. Is sign a max player who is the wrong fit. Or a bust. Cause then you are wasting years …….
Clippers going to new arena. Only team who would take Harden. Considering this, Moreyon did all right.
I like Petrusev. I read Clippers will flip him.
From the Clippers perspective, this is all about injury insurance. They can, from their perspective, survive losing any one of PG, Kawahi, or Harden now, with good depth. They lose a bit from the wings, but they see their floor as higher anyway. Which is difficult to argue, given that none of the players they gave up were playing significant roles. Tucker adds some defense, but they’ll be happy to get Mann back from his injuries. It also clears some minutes on the wings for him, which I like. Mann is one of my favorite roleplayers.
For the Sixers, it’s all about the draft capital and expiring deals, which they can flip for a better player. Aside from KJ Martin (defense and a lively slasher who can play off of Maxey), none of them are likely to play much of a role for the Sixers (Covington or Batum slides into Tucker’s role, but otherwise not a big deal. Morris is just empty calories). Keep your eyes peeled for a deal, either soon or at the deadline. Siakam, Anunoby, and Lavine are the three that stick out to me.
For the Thunder, I’m guessing they’re getting a young guy from the Clippers. Probably either Coffey or Hyland. Kind of a meh deal until we get details.
So the Thunder part of the deal is just the Clippers changing which pick they’re sending to the Thunder, effectively. Not a terrible move, considering they would probably like to keep as much of their young depth as they can.
Looks like a good deal for the sixers .. get rid of the cancer ..and get cap flexibility next off season
And…James Harden won.
Doesnt matter what Morey says or what the Sixers are getting back, unless its an all star which it is not, Harden got exactly what he wanted…$$$$$ and Los Angeles.
Morey is so overrated and a hack.
And you are soooo biased
Morey did a good job in another impossible situation caused by tbe Sixers drafting Ben Freaking Simmons
2018 ROY ……
2020 and 2021 NBA all defensive team ..
Three time all star …..
All that in 4yrs with Sixers.
Drafting him wasn’t the problem ….
Nope he caved and gave James exactly what he wanted.
Think about it this way. In the Summer, James Harden said to himself “I dont want to be a Sixer, I want lots of money and I want to be in the nice Southern California weather with my friends and Family. Screw Daryl Morey.”
He called out the Sixers, the organization, called Morey a liar and got the Sixers investigated. Then Embiid makes statements that make everyone nervous and Morey still tries to do his BS and ask for “all star” level talent.
James comes to camp he is traded in a month. He is now 30 million richer and buying property in Pacific Palicades and the Clippers can offer him an extension.
Meanwhile, Morey got one good pick that does nothing for him bc Embiid sees the Heat and wants out soon.
yes, i cannot stand the worst run franchise in sports, the Sixers are pathetic This is why the league gives them training wheels and has to keep and eye on the franchise.
In the end, Sixers will be exactly at the same point they were when the Process started…a lottery team.
But ill take responses here…
In what way did James Harden not get exactly what he wanted?
ill wait….
The only thing he may have lost will be in the state tax rate on his income. I strongly suspect California has a higher state tax rate than Pennsylvania.
Otherwise, yet another entitled star stomped his foot, threw however many tantrums were needed and got what he wanted.
Harden may think he got what he wanted but he will soon be itching to be traded again. The next time this happens , and it will, no one will want him and for him to think anyone will give him a max contract is a joke. In the meantime the Sixers look like a team liberated from his attitude and from the way he slowed the offense to a stall.
I think you’re kinda going overboard here. Morey didn’t control James opting in. He also didn’t control other teams interest in Harden. If no one else made calls on Harden or offered nothing like Lowry for Harden straight up. And the Clippers came back to talks what 3 or 4 times now?
I’d say he got the best he could out of the Harden deal. If you go back to the Ben Simmons deal, the Kings offer would have bee far superior long term. And that one will haunt the Sixers. Haliburton, Buddy, additional draft picks, keeling 2 of your own.
Failing to develop Simmons, or trade for Simmons for Harden the first time, before Harden got that hamstring injury that Brooklyn misdiagnosed and capped his physical ability, was also something that should haunt the Sixers. If Harden was closer to his MVP self, stopping both him and Embiid would have been much more difficult than it is now with his weakened burst and greater injury risk. I’d bet on them having made at least one Finals appearance by now.
It’s easy to say Simmons is bad now, but his promise was through the roof through his first four seasons. Even if he never developed a jumper, the Sixers should have instilled in him a fearless rim-attacking attitude and turned his excellent defense into world-class defense. Instead, they let him coast by on his natural gifts in favor of trying to mix and match around him and Embiid, not building up proper team chemistry and relying on Doc Rivers (who is famous for being a locker room coach) to hold it together. Even without trading for Harden, he, Maxey, and Embiid could have been a terrifying 2-way force. Instead, they let the whole thing lapse and continued the same pattern. Not surprised they appeared stagnant for so long. Maxey’s breakout and Embiid’s dedication to improving himself might work out in the end. But there will always be questions from this era of Sixers basketball unless they win a ring with Embiid and Maxey.
Simmons was given every chance to develop a jump shot, they hire special coaches to work with him in the summers etc. It came down to the fact that he was afraid to shoot or develop a shot.
Did James Harden get his 30 million and is he now currently looking for property in Los Angeles?
He got what he wanted by crying his way off 3 teams. For all his gifts and all his accolades, he is nothing but a petulant child
This trade is looking great for both the long term but for the short term as well.
And the league will allow this lol. The most lopsided trade I’ve ever seen in possibly any sport. What exactly are the 76ers thinking? This makes zero sense. I know you gotta get rid of him but they couldn’t get anything better than this? And the league is ok with this? I guess since it’s not the Lakers nobody will have a problem with but this is insane to me. Look at the guys the Clippers gave up lol Morris averages 11 points but the other couple guys average like 2 or 3 points per game lmfao
It’s about the picks, not the players. They are all on expiring contracts, so the Sixers are looking towards next off-season to really bulk up for a run.
There was only one team interested in him and they were never going to give up a star. This was for picks and cap space and they did well in that regard.
The Sixers were thinking
1) addition by subtraction by launching Harden
2) give Maxey the opportunity to become a star
3) improve chemistry and ball movement
4) add role players who are happy helping the team however they can
5) greatly helping cap space and flexibility
6) adding draft capital
They are breed in the short term and the long term now.
Better ( spellcheck)
76ers gm is an idiot in my opinion. Terrible return for a player who may be past his prime but is still a really good player and also another really solid role player in Tucker. I wouldn’t be surprised if Embid asks for a trade and I also wouldn’t blame him. Wonder how 76er fans feel about this trade?
Embiid is next. Sixer fans will be so blindsided by his request when it comes, but its coming.
Its inevitable.
Then its 3 years, 3 stars asking out (oh sorry Sixer fan, you cannot call Simmons anything but an all star since you hyped him up as one for a decade…).
Morey is fired, team implodes, Embiid is moved for pennies on the dollar and bam, LOTTERY.
I said the same thing above and got so much hate. Time will tell but I think it’s a awful deal for the 76s. Time to win is now for the 76s. Why get picks unless you will trade them for someone good or rebuild around Maxey
Well, to be fair this guy said his thoughts clearly and succinctly, while you said all sorts of silly things.
And the Sixers are winning and the future looks bright…
Exactly how is getting an unprotected first at a point in time in which none of the Clippers stars will be around (plus another first and a swap) for a one-year already declining malcontent that will demand to be overpaid on a long-term extension a terrible return?
Harden may still be good, but anyone who was expecting a much bigger return than this is delusional. I wouldn’t call it amazing, but worst trade in sports history is beyond comical.
This isn’t about the players received, it’s about draft capital and cap space and getting rid of a cancer. Maxey is stepping up, the Harden whining drama is gone and the Sixers now can either trade for a quality player this year and/or have huge cap space to sign someone next year. Harden is a legend in his own mind but came up small when he was needed. His penchant for crying his way off teams is now the Clippers problem.
This was a great trade! Better chemistry. Better short term and long term !
The problem for the Clippers is there’s only one ball. Maybe they can make it work but this has happened before with Russ and the Beard together.
Everyone here knows I’m not a Morey guy, at all. But the guy did well. Considering Clippers were bidding against themselves. He got another pick. Plus got rid of PJ money.
So now Sixers have plenty to spend on FA. Or can make another move for a good player. Gotta give it to him. Never thought he’d get this. 2 second rd picks to me would have been worth it. Yet he got another pick. This is a huge addition by subtraction imo.
OG is a solid fit here. Unfortunately the Raptors think he’s MJ. By their asking price. Sixers definitely have the assets and cap space next yr. To load up. Embiid has to be happy with this.
Never thought I’d say this. But considering who Harden is now. Sixers did very well …..
LAC is all out for championship or complete fail at this point now. They have too many ball handlers that need their ego’s boosted daily. If things go slightest bit wrong they will have a huge CANCER (harden) in locker room if he is not already
He told me he’d trade me. Now he did you better apologize for calling him a liar. Harden is not happy where he’s not number 1. I’m so glad he never wanted to go to Minnesota. I’d take 25 straight crushing fourth quarter collapses than have that Butler clone be on our team for even one season.
Mark your calendars for 3/27/2023 when the Clippers come to Philly….
Both teams did well. LAC really held firm, as this is basically the same deal that the LAC have been offering for weeks. The extra FRP is coming from OKC in exchange for a second FRP swap that LAC was willing to give PHI. LAC only indicated that they weren’t giving up Mann or the 2030 FRP unprotected, and that held.
PHI blinked, but from a ridiculous position, and still ends up with a good package for Harden. They now have a couple more FRPs to trade along with big $$ expiring deals. Good things to have for deadline deals.
So the Clippers have the Big injury prones…errr The Big 4. But without bench. -_-
Love it – the Clippers are officially no longer a contender. They will need to build out 4 separate locker rooms…
All-in-All satisfied. They got 2 FRPs. The got 2 SRPs. They shed PJ Tucker’s salary.
I think they take this roster into Dec 15th – Trade Deadline. Unless someone else comes up I think LaVine is the guy they target. Well see.
Curious how the depth will shake out. I think they still keep Oubre as the scoring option for the 2nd unit. You surround him with more defensive guys like Morris, Batum, Bev, Reed or KMJ for additional scoring
So I think we could see RoCo starting.
I’m struggling to see where Bamba, Springer, Korkmaz, and House get minutes other than off days for Embiid or Maxey. I think Korkmaz and House will most likely be included in any future dealings.
I think they’ve got a lot of ‘pros’ on the roster now tho. Guys that will be good for the locker room, no loss on that with sending PJ out.
OK ……… so he asks for a trade. Then forces his way out of Philly. And still, he gets a trade bonus ……. WHY.
He’s the one that wanted out.
I can’t believe anyone would even want this washed up, overweight, never plays D. Player
To be fair, $40,595 is a very small portion of his total trade bonus ($5MM+), so he had to waive most of it in order for the salary-matching to work.
But it’s sorta funny that he chose to take that very small portion instead of just waiving the entire thing.
It’s ALL about “trusting the processed cheese”‘ right?
Peace out Fat James ✌️
I think that’s “pizza out”.
Harden now says he won’t ever speak to Morey again. Another self-important spoiled man-child.
