December 14: Peterson’s two-way deal is official, the Celtics announced.
December 13: The Celtics are expected to sign G League forward Drew Peterson to a two-way contract, according to Adrian Wojanrowski of ESPN (Twitter links). Agents Mike Silverman and Troy Payne tell Wojnarowski that Peterson has agreed to sign with the C’s and is on track to join the team as soon as Thursday.
Peterson, 24, went undrafted earlier this year after spending two seasons at Rice and three at USC. As a “super senior” in 2022/23, he averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, posting a .442/.358/.752 shooting line in 33 games (35.9 MPG) for the Trojans.
As an undrafted free agent, Peterson quickly agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with Miami and joined the Heat for summer league play and training camp. He was cut before the regular season began and was designated as an affiliate player for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s G League team.
Peterson was off to a strong start in his first professional season, putting up 15.2 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 4.2 APG on .528/.407/.857 shooting in his first 13 games with the Skyforce. Once he officially signs with Boston, he’ll make the move to the Maine Celtics. He’ll also be eligible to appear in up to 35 NBA games, assuming he officially signs on Thursday.
The Celtics won’t need to make a corresponding roster move to open up a spot for Peterson, since they already cut a two-way player earlier this week, parting ways with Nathan Knight on Tuesday. Neemias Queta and JD Davison are Boston’s other two-way players.
If Peterson signs on Thursday, his two-way salary will be $395,708. That salary would become fully guaranteed if he remains under contract through January 7.
Ok, sounds like Celts really want Drew Peterson! And isn’t it comforting to see the Celtics take someone from the Heat (sort of). They’ve been grabbing our guys for years. Go Drew! Go Celtics!
Yup, CELTS don’t want to miss out on those Strus types …… Bill Simmons and his dad won’t ever forgive them for letting go of Strus.
You mean like Hauser?
Hauser is averaging 9.5 points in 22 minutes, shooting 44 percent from 3.
Strus is averaging 14 points in 35 minutes, shooting 37 percent from 3.
Strus is getting paid 15M. Hauser is getting paid 2M.
So…yeah, so sad about Strus.
Does Matt Ryan in NO fit into this category?
Yes
^ Nope, I really meant Strus.
cherry pickn.
Last time the Celtics won a championship, they rostered two players from USC. Just sayin
Unless they changed their coach…the Celtics will not win any championships. Mazzulla plays are only shooting 3’s.
Looking at his college numbers, he is a tall 6’8 white SG who can do everything except score at a high rate. The Celtics don’t really have a backup SG at all. I still think they are one player away. A team full of veterans and only one young player (Walsh) I would make one more trade for a youngish rebounding PF or C who can start at times. Trade Walsh, Brissett and a pick for something. Waive Davison, promote Queta and look at two other two ways. I do not like Tatum at the PF spot
“white”
Ok buddy.
Our Celtics “… only have one young player,” so why trade him, at 19 years of age & before he learns to play? Sam Hauser said Walsh is growing in leaps & bounds. I remember Jaylen Brown came in raw. Would another player get minutes? Waive JD? He’s going nuts at Maine. Go Celtics!
Im just saying they need one more piece. KP is not averaging alot of rebounds and Tatum isn’t a natural PF, Horford is old but still important. They just need someone to slide in at times. I understand that you want Walsh but they are in win mode right now and don’t need young guys but we can keep him and Davison then. I would play Davison at PG, keep Walsh, promote Queta, find a young SG, PF and C then. Trade Brissett and Kornet with some picks for a PF/C around Tatum’s age. Also it’s not hard to go nuts in Maine (lived there for 30 years) is that better
I’ve got a good feeling that raw Jordan Walsh will develop well & fast & be real good. Go Maine!
I read the box score today. Their highest rebounder was Sam H with 7. They played Stevens at C. Somehow they won. That isn’t good enough. Trade Svi or Brissett and Kornet with future picks for PF/C around Tatum’s age that can start. Or Horford, Brissett and picks for PJ Washington? Then sign Blake Griffin. Promote Queta. I agree Walsh and Davison can be something special, I would go sign a young SG,PF a C to develop with them
Trade beloved “Playoff Al?” No way! I believe we have the talent to go all the way … and since we’re finally playing as a team. Thanks to Coach Joe & the J’s sacrificing. Go Celtics!
I would keep Horford too. I would trade Brissett, Kornet and picks for a PF/C that can rebound. Then sign Blake Griffin
You can throw Banton in the trade too. Sign Blake Griffin and I Thomas to play a couple minutes a game here and there to make the fans completely forget about Smart and good chemistry. Championship
