The Pistons are currently mired in a league-worst 17-game losing streak. If Detroit isn’t able to somewhat right this ship, even while clearly headed for the lottery this year, general manager Troy Weaver should be fired so a new front office can thrive, opines Shawn Windsor of The Detroit Free Press.
Windsor writes that the Pistons are currently on a 7.5-game win pace for the rest of the season, which would shatter the current record for a full 82-game NBA slate.
Given that the club will have lots of space under the league’s projected salary cap next summer, through which it could add veterans and make significant transactions to improve, Windsor submits that Weaver should not be in a decision-making role with the Pistons at that juncture — barring some kind of growth this year.
There’s more out of the Central Division:
- Following a November 14 surgery to correct a partial tear in his left adductor, Bucks reserve forward Jae Crowder is on the mend, having resumed individual on-court work within the last week, writes Jim Owczarski of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “When I touched the ball, I was like, ‘All right, I’m getting close,’” Crowder said. The 33-year-old combo forward was a solid two-way contributor for Milwaukee when healthy this year. In his nine healthy games, he’s logging 8.1 PPG on .532/.416/.583 shooting splits, along with 3.9 RPG, 1.7 APG and 0.8 SPG.
- Bulls starting point guard Coby White is enjoying an excellent start to the season for a struggling 7-14 Chicago club. His willingness to shoot from distance early and often has played a part in the team’s current two-game mini-win streak, writes K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. The 6’5″ guard is averaging 15.0 PPG on .427/.403/.846 shooting splits, 4.2 APG, 3.1 RPG and 0.9 SPG. He’s connecting on a career-best 40.3% of his career-most 7.1 three-pointers per night.
- Bulls All-Star small forward DeMar DeRozan seems to be rediscovering the passing game that he developed during his three-year stint with the Spurs, writes Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times. To wit, he notched a season-most 10 dimes during Chicago’s surprise 124-118 win over the Pelicans on Saturday. “Just being unselfish, pushing the pace,” DeRozan said of his — and the team’s — approach to the victory.
DeM at 23 yrs old …..
2013-14 >> to >> 2017-18 in Toronto. He avg 24 pts and over 4 ast a gm.
With Spurs he avg 22 pts and over 6 ast a gm.
With Bulls up to last yr (2yrs) he avg.
26 pts and 5 ast a gm.
Obviously he’s always played team ball. Does what the team and and defense gives him. It’s called being a playmaker. Writer is full of it. Like all here who think he’s all about iso. In that game he had 10 ast yes. Also had
24 pts and 5 reb. Shooting splits of —-
55.6% FG, 50% (3PT), 100% FT …..
Come to NY DeM DeR …. WE will give you the respect you have Earned .
Quickley, Grimes, Fournier, two 2nd rd picks
Immanuel Quickley averaged 22.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 21 games as a starter in 2022-23.
He’s got potential to be a star. Grimes at worse is a rotation player who plays D and can shoot. I still believe he’s got potential to a solid starter.
No.
It would be so, so dumb to trade IQ for DeMar. IQ is a decade younger, a more efficient scorer, and can hit 3s (which DeMar can’t).
If you can get DeRozan for Fournier and picks, sure, go for it. But trading IQ for him would be so stupid.
I hope Nix mgmt is just that dumb…
Efficient, more …. do you watch gms.
If you think Quickley will be a better scorer than DeM. You really don’t know. Quickley will never get the mins he needs on the Knicks. Do you understand that.
DeM is going into the HOF. He helps us get to Finals next three yrs. We will contend with him. We don’t contend with Quickley….. it’s that simple.
Stupid is thinking Quickley is worth more than DeM. You are the guy who wanted DM and Lillard on Knicks. Now that’s stupid.
This Knicks team + DDR doesn’t stand a chance of reaching the Finals. You just don’t give away anything of value for a 34 yo that doesn’t make you a contender.
He does make us one. I’ve only been saying it for over a yr. Considering he was going to be a FA next yr. LeBron went to LA at 34. DeM is not Bron. But he’s the same kind of athlete and competitor. He’ll give us 3-4 good yrs. Can retire a Knick.
No. And he can’t even get Chicago close to .500 with Levine and Vucevic (along with White putting up numbers). Didn’t do it in Toronto. Didn’t do it in San Antonio.
Al is actually right here, DeMar is someone that can help the Knicks reach the next level, IQ is a question mark, maybe he’s an all star one day maybe not, but the Knicks needs to win and bring back their franchise respect. Also if you look at the stats DeMar is more similar to MJ than any other player in the league, he’s no MJ- but scientifically he is the most similar and healthy and has another few years at this level. He’s a lot cheaper than guys who would help significantly less like Al was talking with Lillard who has been awful for the Bucks or like Zach will be for whatever teams shackles themselves to his albatross of a rotten contract.
@animated – never include Demar in the same sentence as MJ. Not even in the same paragraph, post, etc.
“If you think Quickley will be a better scorer than DeM. You really don’t know.”
Didn’t say he was a better scorer. I said more efficient, which he is. Why? He can hit 3s. DeMar can’t. IQ has a better TS%.
“DeM is going into the HOF.”
Who cares? It’ll be for his work with the Raptors and Bulls. It won’t be because of a few years at the end of his career on the Knicks.
“You are the guy who wanted DM and Lillard on Knicks.”
Lmaooo now you’re just making stuff up. Go back and look at articles about DM rumors and you’ll see I was one of the Knicks fans arguing against acquiring DM because A) the price was too high and B) the fit wasn’t right, especially after getting Brunson. Also never wanted Lillard for the exact same reasons.
You think you’re playing a video game or something with your roster construction. The Knicks already have Brunson, Randle, and RJ as ball-dominant scorers who do a lot of ISO. They don’t need another one in DeMar.
Knicks need a good defending, spot-up shooting SG who can hit 3s. ie, a better version of Grimes. Only way DeMar works is if A) they can get him for next to nothing (like Fournier plus picks) and B) he would come off the bench and do like 25 minutes like IQ does, which he wouldn’t do. 10 man rotation. But it’s not going to happen.
Signing Monty to that stupid contract is Troy worst choice over all the rest … RiP
Sports is about competing and playing to win. Knicks biggest weaknesses right NOW. Are a SF or SG who can get their own shot. One who can close out gms and a backup PF.
DeM at the SG has an unstoppable shot. Cause at 6’6” his shot can’t be blocked. He can shoot over anybody. Just look at his numbers in the 4Q.
Grant is another player who I gladly take. I just see DeM as best fit.
DeM gives us what any top scorer in NBA would give us. Guaranteed 20 plus a gm. More importantly helps us close out gms. Something Knicks have trouble doing against good teams. His addition makes RJ, Randle, Jalen better. We are deeper cause we are not losing anything. DeM takes the starting SG. McBride can backup Jalen, no problem. We only gain here. Jalen is in his prime. Quickley will never get the mins he needs in NY. Quickley can NOT get his own shot like DeM can. He’s a vet with a resume. Quickley one day may get there. But Knicks are ready now …… you’d have to be a Real Knick fan to see that.
DeM and a backup PF ….
Grant and a backup PF …….
Either of these gets us to top of East and a chance at a chip . Plus we won’t have to give up any of our core players. No other star players are coming to NY. Unless we give up a core player or more.
Thibs is not giving up a core player, not this yr. Next yr Rose could force his hand if there is major star available
All you “what have you done for me lately” posters here. Only look at DeM this yr and last. Yet his stats are the same. His first yr in Chicago. He was the Guy. And they were winning. Not having a real PG will change things. He won’t have that problem in NY. Since he left the Raptors. He’s been one of most efficient SG in NBA. And his D is not as bad as most think. He will have Mitch backing him up. So it will be better. It’s so simple to see. He does for us, what Jrue does for Celtics. He’s an upgrade for this team. He’s a team player. Who wants a shot at a ring. He fits right in with this group.
But the bulls dont need thats 3 guards.fournier,hartenstein,2 1st.
Bulls would take Als offer in a heartbeat, IQ has all star potential- and the have no guard with that
I doubt the knicks will trade away iq.
Brother you make too much sense for these people to comprehend, I’d really enjoy the Knick’s with DeMar without losing true core pieces it would be a very complete team and a solid top three in the East top 5 in the league
K-AL, you certainly have the right idea from NYK’s point of view, DeMar would be a great fit for the Knicks & would be worth giving up Quickley, Grimes, Fournier & 2nds. However, it is doubtful AK & the Bulls would value Quickley given their roster long term. Coby White figures to be their long term SG and Ayo Dosunmu at least their 2nd unit PG if not starter. neither would pair well with a ball dominant undersized SG like Quickley. Difficult to believe even for Bulls fans, but Coby is now better and cheaper than Quickley.
My guess is that AK would demand Barrett & 1st(s) in any trade, which is why DeMar hasn’t already been traded to the Knicks. DeMar will likely sign a two or three year extension once Zach is traded. Doubtful the Bulls go full rebuild while AK in charge, since that would lead to his firing. Only a basket of multiple 1sts, expiring contracts and a promising, 2-way young player could get DeMar or Caruso while AK is in charge.
