Among those involved in Draymond Green‘s return-to-play process, there’s a “general belief” that his indefinite suspension will end up covering about 11 to 13 games, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Warriors forward has missed six games since the NBA announced he would be sidelined indefinitely — today’s contest in Denver will be the seventh. The 11th game of his suspension would be on January 4 (vs. Denver), while the 13th would be on Jan. 7 (vs. Toronto).
As Wojnarowski outlines, Green is getting individual counseling sessions during his absence and is also taking part in periodic virtual meetings with officials from the Warriors, the league, and the National Basketball Players Association. Those Zoom meetings are aimed at charting his progress toward reinstatement and are playing in a role in how the NBA and NBPA evaluate Green’s progress working through “whatever issues might have contributed to repeated violent episodes,” Wojnarowski writes.
Green’s agent Rich Paul, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., and Golden State trainer Rick Celebrini are among those who have participated in the ongoing sessions, sources tell ESPN. Wojnarowski adds that Green has been described as “open and engaged” during the meetings.
While the Warriors and the players’ union were involved in designing the terms of Green’s suspension and the conditions for his return, the NBA will ultimately have the final say on when he’s reinstated, according to Wojnarowski.
Woj adds that even though Green is permitted to condition and practice with the Warriors, he likely won’t return to the team’s facility on a regular basis until early January.
The Warriors have played well as of late without their former Defensive Player of the Year and will put a five-game winning streak on the line this afternoon against the defending-champion Nuggets.
“He should be arrested”, then goes to NHL game “I hope there is a fight tonight”. Hypocrisy
Hey RenoChris,
One sport allows fighting, the other does not. No hypocrisy, just fact.
Hey greg1,
How about hypocrisy for you. All these cries for Draymond to be arrested, permanently banned, etc. but Miles Bridges gets suspended 10 games and no one even considers to call that bs out when he’s an actual, multiple time, domestic abuser.
Who are these people you speak of?
Some people like making up scenarios then getting angry about them.
Lots of people have called for Bridges to be punished heavier – but old mate here won’t let facts get in the way.
@Cam
You really think the cries have been the same? I see articles calling for draymond to be permanently banned. I don’t see the same hate for bridges as draymond. Please, feel free to send me links of articles and sites where Bridges gets the same criticism as Draymond
tball you aren’t paying attention. The large majority of this community wanted Bridges gone. Thats not exactly a scorching take you have
I’ve commented on every Bridges article that he should be banned from the league and in jail. I also think Green should be suspended the rest of the season if he acts out again.
Correct. Miles Bridges was out a whole season plus 10 games.
Greg, you actually reviewed your comment before hitting send. Fact, I assume. Renos point clearly is about fans comments on Green. That’s 1. 2, maybe Reno also feels either fighting shouldn’t be “allowed” in either sport or he believes that if its “allowed” in one sport it should be “allowed” in both. Your post, Greg? Clueless.
Pretty sure this suspension got Draymond’s financial attention. It’s not just his nba salary, but his endorsements and broadcasting income too. He was on a survival good behavior zero tolerance mode last yr after the punch, but back to complete out of control behavior after signing $100M contract.
Let’s not give Draymond a pass this time around. Let’s stay with the youth movement. It’s not a punishment enough for him to come off the bench. NO Warriors uniform for Draymond. Let’s play and win with class. No more Draymond in Warriors land.
I am laughing about the Green to LA Laker rumors. Why would GSW trade him to a division rival they may face in the playoffs? Warriors don’t want D’Lo back so there is no match in a trade. Pistons or Mavs is most likely if a trade happens.
Umm…I think you need to watch the Warriors a bit more. You can easily point to the youth movement being started by Draymond. Draymond volunteered to come off the bench last season when it looked like they were headed for a lottery pick. They played best stretch, and got back to .500. With the news of CP3 trade, Draymond said it will help Kuminga. Kuminga’s agent had threatened to ask for a trade if he didn’t get more playing time. Draymond spent the summer practicing with CP3. I think you can see that probably helped CP3 to transition to coming off the bench. You can easily see how last season the 2nd unit was a dark hole. This season is a bright spot. And Moody has helped him with things he never thought about, like what to do with that phat paycheck he gets. I’m condoning Draymond’s actions. But, he is probably more valuable than you.
BTW. Have you seen what Jordan Poole is doing in DC. It is not hard to imagine what would Jordan, Bird, etc. would have done to him. The only thing keeping him on the roster is that contract. I don’t even think the Shanghai Sharks would sign him.
Do you not think Draymond is a distraction to the team? Do you not think he let the team and the coaches down with his 3 ejections and 2 major suspensions? Do you not think he embarassed the whole organization? Do you not think he was behaving selfishly with his diva behavior?
I miss the young underdog hard working hustling do whatever it takes to win selfless 2nd rounder Draymond. He was amazing heart of the team player but he’s long gone.
If Draymond is such a distraction, how are the young guys playing so well and blossoming? Their biggest problem this year has been the vets turning over the ball. Major suspensions usually last least at a minimum a quarter of the season. Going over board when you playing hard is not Diva behavior. If you want to see Diva behavior, look at Poole’s behavior in DC. What is your problem 2nd rounders? Trayce Jr and Jokic are both 2nd rounders. Draymond’s got problems. But, he is hardly a blight on society.
2nd round was mentioned as a compliment – huge success story to win 4 titles and one of the best defensive players ever.
As for Poole, let’s stop with Poole Wiseman narrative. OK, you were right not wanting Warriors to give him mega extension. We were all thinking of $80m but prices went up with his fellow draftees. Often, these extensions have more to do than the player. Warriors wanted to also have the ability to trade for another star(salary match) and also keep fellow young players motivated(Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, etc).
Will you admit that Wiseman is a bust? Or are you still going to argue it takes a decade to develop big guys?
Please don’t hate Poole just because he got generation wealth extension. As you’ve said, it’s not your money. He did win us a title 2 yrs ago when he started 50 games. And last yr when he played terribly, he played every single game in regular and postseason through injuries and bruises.
Pete Newel, a Bay Area Native,a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, said it takes Big Men 3 years after 4 of college to make a real impact.
So, you are going to argue that Jordan Poole’s slow rolling the ball up the the court when his team is behind 20 points proves he a superior player? What about slow rolling a basketball when your team is 20 points make you a superior understanding of basketball
If he is actually seeking his own behavioral changes, it’s going to take probably months of counseling to make significant changes. If the zoom sessions are just about saying what officials and union want to hear, then he’ll be a new person over the span of 11 games lol
Boo kick him out a whole year !
If that is fair Ja should be out for a year.
What crime did Ja commit?
Committing a crime is not a prerequisite for a suspension.
When comparing it to Draymond, as ARC directly did, it is.
Pulling a gun on a 18 Y O
I said what crim did he commit, not what crime did he commit”allegedly” commit. BIG difference
Just keep making up excuses. Like going after a security guard. So since Green did not commit a crime he is innocent as you just said.
Not making excuses here. Greens a thug. He assaulted Nurcic. It’s definitely a crime. So, again, what crime did Ja commit?
and Bridges should be out forever
Meanwhile Giddey running free
Different scenario altogether. All of Green’s discretions were on camera, Giddey’s were barely a Social Media post. The NBA and police are still investigating Josh, and if it is proven he had inappropriate contact with a minor, I’m sure he’ll be looking at a lengthy suspension too.
Hey greg1,
Please stop trying to justify other players mistakes while solely focusing on draymond as a villain.
Hey tball,
Please stop trying to justify Draymond’s mistakes by comparing him to other players. Being a different kind of villain doesn’t mean you aren’t still a villain.
Hey lil D,
How did I justify his mistakes? You’re an open warriors hater on this site, so I can’t really see anything you comment as credible
thats how we see your posts, pal
@Gary The “rookie Davis” has a nickname, Trayce Jr. It was bestowed on him by Klay in honor of his brother. Coincidentally, Klay has been shooting so much better since he did that.
A lifetime of being a thug is going to g to take longer that 11-13 games to correct
A “lifetime”? I am pretty sure you wouldn’t know Draymond if you were shown a picture of him.
Ok? Congratulations to you then?
This is what back handed racism looks like btw. Black guy does something violent so now he’s been a “thug” his whole life.
He’s from Saginaw Michigan dude. Lived there until he went to Michigan State for 4 years then went to the NBA. What the hell are you talking about.
What does where he lived have to do with anything? What does his race have to do with anything? H s a dirty player who assaults people and runs his mouth. Always has been, always will. That’s textbook thuggery. That you decided to make it about race shows who the racist is
Watch out euro player ! Clown is back !
Did he go to some magical hypnotist or something…
No way he’s had the help he needs to be ready to simply play basketball..
Cold turkey is very powerful. Many alcoholics, cigarette smokers, overweight people, gamblers, can suddenly have the light turn on inside them and come to the realization what they’re doing is very destructive.
It doesn’t happen a lot but it’s possible. I know most won’t give this guy the benefit of the doubt but hey I’m willing to do so.
I know I’ve been down dark roads and I’ve lived to tell about it, so I have hope Draymond Green can do the same.
Not saying you’re wrong scarlet but just that I have hope.
Some former players who on tv were saying he deserved atleast 20 games maybe more ..when they came out with the bullcrap indefinite with counseling and whatever else they as in Joe dumars who’s very close to draymond.. I knew right then..it wasn’t gonna be a severe punishment
The Guy is doing zoom from its xmas vacations so everything’s cool …
When all said and done. Draymond should have more than 13 games. He has missed 7 games. It has been out a month. If he is going to counseling, this is just a drop in the bucket.
13 games are not enough time to even scratch the surface. It seems the Warriors have a lot of pull.
It’s not about counseling; it’s about getting off the juice to end the roid-rage.
Doubters – Google “George Karl steroids” for candid insights….
To make it easy, here’s a short Karl quote from a long story on NBA steroid usage:
“I’m talking about performance-enhancing drugs—like steroids, human growth hormone, and so on. It’s obvious some of our players are doping. How are some guys getting older—yet thinner and fitter? How are they recovering from injuries so fast? Why the hell are they going to Germany in the off-season? I doubt it’s for the sauerkraut.”
