After word of the OG Anunoby trade broke on Saturday, the general consensus among league insiders who spoke to Michael Grange of Sportsnet.ca is that the Raptors were just getting started, with multiple sources suggesting that the deal with the Knicks may be the first of several moves made by Toronto.
“It’s a reboot around Scottie Barnes, that’s for sure,” one source told Grange.
After previously reporting that league sources expect Pascal Siakam to be on the move sooner or later, Grange adds the Mavericks to the list of teams likely to to pursue the Raptors forward. The Hawks, Pacers, and Kings are the clubs that have been repeatedly cited as presumed suitors for Siakam.
Jalen Johnson was a player the Raptors coveted in previous talks with Atlanta, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, though the Hawks won’t be particularly inclined to include him in an offer in the midst of his breakout season. Along similar lines, the Kings have been unwilling to discuss former No. 4 overall pick Keegan Murray, Scotto confirms.
As Scotto has previously observed, Pacers forward Jarace Walker, this year’s No. 8 overall pick, seems to fit the mold of the kind of young, controllable player the Raptors would like. Walker’s lack of playing time so far in his rookie season has some people around the league wondering if Indiana would give him up in a package for an impact player.
Here’s more on the Raptors:
- Finding a guard who is comfortable playing off the ball and who can space the floor alongside Barnes was a priority for Toronto, according to Grange, who says there’s a lot of enthusiasm among Raptors officials about what Quickley can bring to the team. “Quickley is the perfect pairing next to Scottie Barnes because of the shooting and floor spacing he’ll provide,” one rival executive told Scotto.
- While the Raptors’ goal is to add pieces that better complement Barnes, the young forward declined to comment when asked about Saturday’s trade, which sent three of his best friends on the team to New York, Grange notes. “This is the NBA, that’s the thing, right?” Siakam said of the deal. “Like we got to be robots and just move on. Because that’s what it is. We get paid for it, right? So you have to move on… (but) it sucks. It’s not easy. For some people is the first time (they’ve been through it) but I’ve seen it happen. So I understand. … It’s a business and you learn about it every day, and every day you try to just be out there you know, like look out for yourself, look out for your teammates, and do the best that you can.”
- Following a loss to the lowly Pistons on Saturday, the Raptors are 12-20 on the season, and postgame comments from Dennis Schröder indicated that the club isn’t exactly a “cohesive, well-oiled” machine, writes Grange. “When I got here, (head coach) Darko (Rajakovic) did a great job just putting this system into the organization,” Schröder said. “But I think we just got to follow that. Everybody just being unselfish, sharing the ball… to be a winning team, we need everybody, Even the guys who don’t really, really play. People got to be grateful, cheering on their teammates when they get a stop, when they get on the floor, dive, pick them up, being excited for one another. I don’t want to go deep into that, but I need to feel that because in the summer I did. … I went to war with all my brothers from the (World Cup champion German) national team. But we knew we had each other. I don’t feel it here yet like that.”
Siakam, Trent Jr to hawks
Bogdanovic, Jalen Johnson to raps, Bertans also to raps
Capella to OKC.
Siakam and Temple to the Hawks, Bogdanovic, AJ Griffin, J Johnson to the raptors, OO and Mills to OKC. Davis Bertans and Giddey to Toronto. Aaron Wiggins to Atlanta. Not sure if this works
Na
Who are you trying to improve? The raptors or a good spot for Siakam?
no
Atlanta trades Bogdanovic, OO, Mills, bufkin, Johnson, Gueye and Griffin for Siakam and Temple with 2nds. Raptors waive Young, Mills and Porter. Then trade Jacob, Bogdanovic, Trent Jr and Dennis S for draft picks and bad contracts.
It’s hilarious how raptors fans actually believe that they fleeced the Knicks. Mark my words. O.G is going to flourish in NY. Masai made this trade to save his job. Because if he goes full rebuild he will get fired. They literally could have had KD, but now he has the delusional raptors fan base contempt on having the “hometown kid”. He held onto spicy & O.G way too long. Watch, spicy is going to do the raptors dirty by not(already) signing his extension. And he’s going to tell teams that he isn’t going to re-sign with them , so raps won’t get any value.
Hilarious how dudes who hate the raptors can’t stop lurking on raptor topics. Keep revealing those weak minded intangibles lonely boy…
You think he’s bad? Imagine suggesting the Raptors get Davis Bertans on like 98 different article comment sections like he’s gonna be their next Kawhi
I don’t think anyone is saying raps fleeced NY. It was a fair trade for both teams. If IQ develops into what he could be then yes maybe the raps win this trade in 2-3 years.
Also if Siakam tries to screw the raps then that says more about his personality than the team doesn’t it? All the more reason to move him if he’s got a poor attitude. He should be grateful he gets paid millions to play a game and that Toronto developed him into what he is today. All the greats have been traded at some point so what should be so different for him?
Og is going to walk, so yes Toronto fleeces the knickerbockers.
1. how do you know if they “literally” could have had KD?
2. your right the raps didn’t fleece the Knicks but the return is decent. if OG flourishes in NY, good for him but the raps can’t make a trade based on “will this player be good elsewhere”. it’s “can we get some pieces to help us get better if we move him”
Keep Siakam. Raptors did well. You have two good picks next yr.
Two good picks next year? Raptors owed a 1st and two 2nds before this trade from past transactions.
Look it up …..
They have their own #1 plus the Pistons pick they just got. Two solid picks. Do you understand what that Pistons pick is ????
Tor pick top 6 protected so they probably lose it this year
Why do you care?
How bout them Pistons!
Pistons making the confidence finals? Or are the raptors living rent free in your weak minded brain?
Who is saying fleeced?
You sound like someone who already knows the knicks wont win more than a round or two, wont be able to resign OG, and need an excuse lol
Lucky you are hilariously wrong about most of this. Firstly, the Raptors could be doing as well as the Pistons are currently and Masai’s job would not be in question. He’s probably top 5 safest jobs between GMs and coaches in the league.
Secondly, what in your mind makes you think Toronto would’ve had a chance on KD? If they did have the firepower for that deal there would be 0 team and 0 picks left for Durant. Then add Durants desire to be there… just no.
I’m gonna guess you meant content and not contempt but regardless, having a young Canadian come play for your Canadian basketball team is a marketing win from all angles. Raptors know they aren’t competing for a title. They’re well aware. A big boost in merch sales is just as good to a lot of owners.
And lastly, waited too long? In what world? Both of their values have been pretty solid for the last season and a half. And both are heading into free agency this season…
Masai is getting paid $15M a year on a LT contract, do you really believe his job is on the line?
Yeah but that’s $15M canadian
Move was smart for the Raptors. Maybe they target Wiggins buy low levels?
That Canada born squad.
I would move Schroder this year, give IQ the reigns and see if hes worth the contract.
Mathurin makes more sense than Wiggins.
The only Cdn I’d actually want on this team is Shai, but that’s not going to happen
Wiggins definitely needs out of Oakland, something personal ain’t right with him. It wasn’t right the end of last season and it’s still not correct now, he’s better than how he’s played. Right now Golden State would trade him for a bag of golf balls.
First of all Masai was and is in no danger of getting fired. Over the years several organizations have tried to pry him from Toronto and the ownership wouldn’t let him go because they believe in him. Secondly….Durant? Really? Clearly you don’t know anything about Durant or the pieces Toronto had. Durant did not want to go to Toronto and even if hey had of been able to gut the organization to get him there would have been nothing left to build a contending team around. It was becoming clear that the mix in Toronto wasn’t working and that they needed to rebuild/reboot around Barnes. After the FVV fiasco they could not afford to lose OG or Siakim for no return. This probably isn’t a franchise altering trade in that the team will be much better or worse right away….you have to recognize it for what it is….a good first step towards building towards contentetion by acquiring good young affordable, controllable assets that can be used down the road. Now they have to do something similar with Pascal. Durant….as if he would have been the answer….he certainly wasn’t in Brooklyn….nor does he look to be in Phoenix. That’s just laughable.
Masai was never in danger of getting fired. Why do ppl even think that?

When first reported. It said Knicks were getting a 2nd rd pick. Well it’s the Raptors that are getting one. And it’s Pistons 2nd rd pick. Which is a valuable pick. Wow
I still see the value for both teams. They are changing it up. So their chemistry should improve. Raptors getting more offense. Knicks getting more defense.
Only now I feel Raptors got a great deal. Slightly better than Knicks. That pick does it. I guess Mitch going down necessitated this deal for Knicks. I’m sure Knicks will resign OG. They just better do it.
I really like this trade for Raptors now. Two starters and a solid pick. With their own pick. They have good draft capital for 2024 draft.
It’s a win win trade, Knicks are getting a great player and the Raps def didn’t fleece thr NYK.
Personally I’d love to see Pascal on the Thunder think a line up of SGA Dort Williams Pascal and Chet would be great and wouldn’t cost them to much.
They could give up Bertans and Giddey for starters and obviously have the draft capital it’s just I don’t think the raptors would value Giddey that highly paired with Scottie. Both guys want touches and aren’t great shooters. Jaylin Williams I think would be a terrific fit with Scottie Barnes and would be acquirable but I don’t think that moves the needle for them.
Dallas would be a really cool landing spot too.
Siakim would work really well with Lively and Luka. But who do they give up that Toronto would want. Doubt they want Kyrie or that Dallas gives him up. Doubt they want Grant Williams or THJ. They have young pieces like Josh Green and Jaden Hardy, I’d let one of them go to get oascal but who are you salary matching with …
THJ Green and Powell only makes about 27mil and Pascal is on 37… Swap Holmes for Powell yeah maybe but I think Toronto would value Powell more and then want draft capital.
Idk tough calls especially with THJ playing really well this year but would glad they are atleast thinking about doing something
Been thinking about the fit and the trade.
I’m guessing Toronto by trading for IQ who’s on an expiring deal must value him pretty high. Which means they likely view him as a long term starter next to Scottie and RJ. That’s cool I think IQ has a bunch of room to grow and being stuck behind Brunson in NY was never going to be good for him.
But that means with your 1-2-3 of IQ RJ and Scottie, if your looking to move Pascal it’s going to be for another 4, cause Poeltls contract also ties him to the centre spot aswell.
RJ’s not the best shooter, Scottie ain’t a shooter like that either so ideally whoever you get at the 4 needs to shoot and provide some spacing.
Ideally he won’t take to many touches away from the other guys, and provide something on defence too.
Here’s a list of some guys I think they should look into as replacements for siakim (not necessarily trade targets)
Santi Aldama (35% from 3) stuck behind JJJ for the PF position for them long term. 7 foot rebounds well and gets both blocks and steals.
Grant Williams (39% from 3) however very undersized at 6’6. Still a good on ball defender but poor rebounder. Mavs also have interest in Pascal so there could be an avenue there
Obi Toppin (38% from 3) not a big volume guy but has preformed well when given the opportunity. Also former teammates with RJ and IQ from back when he was on the Knicks. Pacers also have interest in Pascal although he is a up and coming FA …
Patrick Williams (41% from 3) another up and coming FA, little underwhelming since being drafted but still only 22 and an excellent 3 and D forward maybe just needs a change of scenery
Jaylin Williams (34% from 3) my little under the radar suggestion. 21 years old 6’9, rebounds really well just doesn’t have much opportunities in OKC but I think could develop into something really solid.
I think Toronto needs to open up and make all their vets also available in trades. You’ve got Schroder, GTJ, Otto, Thad, Boucher and so on. I’m sure you could get back some good picks or maybe even a decent young player or two for some of these guys.
For example if I’m Miami I’m offering Kyle Lowry back to you along with Jovic and a first for Schroder, Otto, McDaniels and Thad. They could definitely do with adding some depth especially in forwards.
Nobody is taking Lowry.
Maybe for a salary dump
He wants to retire in Toronto so he’ll be there soon
