Joel Embiid twisted his knee on Friday when the Sixers defeated Atlanta, but it’s considered a minor issue. The reigning Most Valuable Player was essentially a full participant in Sunday’s practice, other than some early weight room work while the rest of the team was on the floor, Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer tweets. Embiid is questionable to play against Washington on Monday.
We have more on the Sixers:
- With the team relatively healthy, coach Nick Nurse has decisions to make regarding the rotation, Mizell writes. Nurse essentially went with an eight-man rotation in the win over the Hawks. Paul Reed and Mohamed Bamba combined for just 11 minutes, while Robert Covington, Danuel House and Furkan Korkmaz didn’t play. “It’s a good thing to have a different variety of players and guys that bring different things,” Marcus Morris said. “But at the same time, for players, it can get frustrating. Because everybody wants to play and everybody works hard. It will definitely be interesting.”
- The Sixers have a 14-7 record and play some of the league’s weakest teams this week, including a pair of games against the downtrodden Pistons. Nurse believes the team is generally playing well and he expects the defense to improve during the second quarter of the season, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “We are doing a lot of things well. … We’re just not finishing off possessions,” Nurse said. “Things like that would be at the top of my list.”
- The Sixers want to model their new arena after Boston’s TD Garden, but would that work in Philadelphia? Inga Saffron of the Inquirer takes a closer look.
- The 76ers’ NBA G League affiliate in Delaware has acquired the rights to Darius Bazley from the Wisconsin Herd in exchange for a 2024 G League first round pick, the Blue Coats tweet. Bazley was waived by the Nets during training camp after signing with Brooklyn during the offseason on a non-guaranteed contract. A 6’8″ forward/center, Bazley holds career averages of 9.1 PPG and 5.3 RPG on .411/.310/.673 shooting in 228 regular season games (118 starts, 23.6 MPG) with the Thunder and Suns.
Any injury to Embiid lower body isn’t minor.
Sixers doing well without Harden. The right trade can get them back in contention. Bucks, Celtics top of East.
What looks good next to Maxey. Is a PG that can shoot. Sixers also have a big move to make. I’m curious to see where they go. Seems there are a few teams. Looking to make a major trade. HoopsRumors
Sixers, Lakers, Knicks, Magic, Hawks, Heat
They had a PG that could shoot, they traded him. Maxey is the current point guard and he can shoot, in fact he is shooting .399 for the season and .411 over his career from deep.
Agree with the reply, don’t need a PG that can shoot. I’m more than happy having Melton or Beverly partner him in the backcourt and provide some defence, leadership and secondary ball handling.
I also don’t think we need to make a big move, I’m happy with strength in numbers but if we did go big for a player I’d like a SF that’s good on defence and happy to be a third or fourth option. Like a DeAndre Hunter, OG Anunoby, Jerami Grant type of plauer. 15-20 points, really good defence, not a huge ego, can shoot it and just fit in with what we have going already and not have to give up absolutely everything either
Anunoby is exactly the last piece the sixers need
Bazley is a good pick up. I think once they make a trade, they’ll bring in a few guys that have been discarded.
Furkan, House, Springer, Bamba, and KMJ all likely to be moved with tbose 3 picks.
RoCo, Batum, and Morris look like they have a role here.
Lauri or OG. DFS would be next on my list. Tyus Jones, Alex Burks cheaper options.
Don’t think Caruso is worth the ask. Don’t think LaVine is worth the depth. Indy may not move Buddy. Siakam can’t shoot and is ball dominant. DeRozan would be interesting, would need to figure out which depth piece to deal. DeAndre Hunter and Gordon Hayward are a sneeze away from injury. If the Mavs crater, THJ could be an option.
If the Jazz hadn’t been the ones to do that Reed offer sheet, I think hed be a piece moved to Utah.
I think Nurse has a couple weeks to figure out who fits and doesn’t fit, what does his playoff rotation look like if they stand pat, and what to discuss with Morey for a target when the 4 clippers can be traded in combo. They all cant be moved in combo til January so, I think well see some different rotation choices, esp against weaker teams.
