Bulls guard Zach LaVine will be sidelined for at least the next week due to right foot soreness, the team announced today (via Twitter).
LaVine initially sat out the Bulls’ game on November 22 due to what was listed on the injury report as right foot soreness, though he referred to it during a media session as a mid-foot sprain. The issue flared up again during Tuesday’s loss to Boston, forcing him out of action for Thursday’s contest vs. Milwaukee.
It sounds like the Bulls want to give LaVine some time to rest and recover so that the issue doesn’t become a recurring one over the course of the season. Based on the timeline announced by the club, he’ll at least miss games vs. New Orleans (on Saturday) and Charlotte (next Wednesday). The Bulls will visit San Antonio next Friday.
LaVine, 28, has averaged 21.0 points per night on .443/.336/.866 shooting in 18 appearances (35.3 MPG) so far this season. The scoring average and field goal percentage represent his lowest marks since the 2017/18 season.
LaVine is one of the NBA’s top trade candidates, so it’s safe to assume teams around the NBA will be keeping a close eye on the status of his right foot in the coming days and weeks.
Smart move, honestly. That’s the same leg as the knee that’s been giving him trouble over the years, iirc. No sense risking a more serious problem and losing out on the chance to trade him. Even if he’s not as valuable as some might think, he’s still got value.
Bulls did this to themselves by fooling themselves into thinking the Lonzo injury was the only problem they had.
Bulls had zero picks in the 2023 draft, and only Dalen Terry, a draft miss, in 2022.
Now they are going to be looking to start a rebuild in a 2024 draft that right now looks incredibly weak.
Take him to Lourdes and get him some Foot Sauce, that should take care of this
Bulls were so fun to watch against bucks last night. Ball was moving (esp finding vuc on dives, quick swings around the perimeter) and defense was sound. Don’t think it’s a coincidence that it happened when Zach’s poor defense and demars ball stagnation were absent.
Bulls should trade Zach and demar and keep everyone else. Caruso is too fun to root for to trade him, even with the potential return. Coby and pat wouldn’t get enough of a return to justify giving up on them. Vuc looked rly good without Zach/demar. And ayo needs more playing time, such a smart player.
CHI should bring LaVine back before it becomes clear to the rest of the league that they are a better team without him (since it’s at least possible that could matter to someone). CHI, free of the Iso Twins, was actually watchable last night.
Commence tanking for 2024! I know it’s a year late but if they sell their pieces correctly, it’s race to the finish for the top pick. Detroit, CHI, Washington and San Antonio.
Need Isiah Collier!
DeM DeR >>>> to Knickerbockers
DeMar DeRozan may already be Photoshopping himself into a different uniform.
Sam Amick of The Athletic reported this week that the Chicago Bulls star has two preferred trade destinations if he winds up getting moved this season: the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks. Amick adds that DeRozan is considered “very likely” to be on the move before the February trade deadline.
