Once considered the most aggressive suitor for Pascal Siakam, the Hawks are no longer viewed by league personnel as a top contender to trade for the Raptors forward, reports Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. As Fischer explains, with Atlanta more likely to be a seller than a buyer at the trade deadline, a deal for Siakam no longer makes as much sense as it might have last summer.
Recent chatter among NBA executives has centered on the Pacers, Kings, and Pistons as prime landing spots for Siakam, according to Fischer, who says that the Sixers and Mavericks aren’t considered especially viable destinations for now.
As Fischer writes, in any deal involving Siakam, Toronto would be prioritizing young, established players – like the ones the team got in its OG Anunoby trade – rather than future draft assets. Philadelphia doesn’t really have any trade chips that fit that bill, while Dallas has “long rebuffed inquiries” on wing Josh Green, per Fischer.
Teams like Detroit and Indiana, on the other hand, have young players who could be included in a Siakam package, and the Pistons continue to signal to rival front offices that they’re interested in buying at the trade deadline rather than selling off their veterans, Fischer reports.
Here’s more on Siakam:
- The Kings won’t consider trading away forward Keegan Murray, says Fischer, which may make them an underdog in the Siakam sweepstakes. However, Davion Mitchell is available, and Sacramento has called teams to gauge the value of a package headed by Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter, Fischer writes, adding that the team also has multiple tradable first-round picks.
- Before Anunoby was traded to New York, the Pacers made a “strong push” to acquire him from the Raptors, according to Fischer, who says Indiana continues to explore an upgrade at power forward.
- Raptors officials have suggested to opposing executives that as many as 10 teams have legitimate interest in Siakam, sources tell Fischer.
- Tim Bontemps of ESPN is the latest reporter to state that his league sources expect the Raptors to move Siakam before the trade deadline next month.
Best trade partners/packages are likely to be with Pacers (Mathurin, Walker, Hield, picks) or Kings (Murray/or/Mitchell +1st, Barnes, Huerter, other picks). Don’t like what the Hawks or Mavs have to offer. Would be curious if the Pistons would be willing to give up Ivey in a deal.
The raptors should just take the picks and use them to aquire whatever young players they’ve targeted. Murray and Mathurin aren’t happening.
Zero chance kings give up Murray for Pascal
Murray might be better than Pascal already and he’s not close to his peak
Pascal is all NBA, Murray’s not at that level. He’s definitely a long term building block in SAC and should be untouchable for a pending FA.
Siakam has played well, and has certainly outperformed OG during their careers. But I don’t see TOR getting the kind of package for him that they got for OG. Positional value, age, signability and the NYK own timeline / crowded depth chart likely played parts in the NYK being willing to give up what they did. Also, the bidding for OG has in the past involved about half the league, and figured to pick up as the deadline neared if no deal was finalized. Siakam is a one position 4, who’s more or less committed to going to the UFA market, unless he’s given the home team max.
Because TOR’s focus is more on players than picks, it makes sense that PHI is on the outside looking in, and DET might not be as strange a bidder as it seems. DET would have max him, but that might not be such a big deal to them. Weaver is apparently under pressure to upgrade the roster. Siakam is the best player likely to be traded from now to the deadline. No idea what DET might be willing to give up.
OG was the best in the league at what he did. No question that OGs trade value was higher than Pascals. Do ppl think Pascal is worth more?
I don’t think that, and never have, but I thought it close if there was enough time to market both players. Also, based on the comments here (not just this year, but last year too), many do or at least did. In fairness, both players were being overvalued in the comments.
In any event, even I think the NYK overpaid for OG, and once Quickley settles in, I think even the biggest OG fans will agree. Whereas, I think TOR will have a tough time even getting fair value for Siakam.
Pistons can offer Bogdanovic, Hayes, Bagley and 2 firsts
If kings offer Keegan then sure and Huerter with Harrison can make up salary.
Jazz can offer Collins, Olynyx and 2 firsts. Would be nice to get Markkanen but jazz view him as the building block for them currently.
I’d take BB, Ausar, Bagley and a 1st and 2nd for Paschal.
Same. McDaniels would likely be added.
Still say Siakam to the Thunder makes sense.
Thunder go with SGA, Giddey, Jalen Williams, Siakam, and Holgrem.
Trade would be:
Thunder get Siakam and Schroder back
Raptors get
Bertan(salary filler)
Micic (lottery ticket)
Cason Wallace (young player)
Jaylin Williams (young player)
Kenrich Williams (salary filler)
Aleksej Pokusevski (lottery ticket).
Jazz could offer better. Raps don’t need all those players.
Jazz could, but they wont. Jazz are 12th in the west. Jazz aren’t a Siakam away from being title contenders. Thunder sit 2nd.
Raptors aren’t keeping Bertans and Kenrich Williams. Those two are either cut or traded for 2nd round picks.
Your offer of “Collins, Olynyx and 2 firsts” isnt what the Raptors want at all.
They probably won’t keep Micic or Pokusevski but they could (or just cut or try to trade).
Wallace and Jaylin Williams are the gets
Your offer of “Collins, Olynyx and 2 firsts” doesn’t fit the Raptors desire to acquire young players. Olynk is 32. Collins and 2 1sts doesnt get Siakam
There’s no way that package by the Hawks or the Thunder would be enough; or they would want more of the value centered around a better young player/prospect. Kings, Pacers and Pistons have the best assets and are under the most stress to perform better.
Collins, Olynk play for the Jazz…..
Best Kings are gonna offer is Davion Mitchell and some 1sts as Murray is untouchable.
Best Pacers are gonna offer is Hield and possibly Jarace Walker and some 1sts. Mathurin is also gonna be untouchable
Your best bet for young players is the Thunder
Cason Wallace, Jaylin Williams, Tre Mann is 22, Aleksej Pokusevski is 22, Ousmane Dieng,
Wallace and Jaylin Williams are by far and away the best young pieces anyone has to offer except Pistons. Pistons arent a Siakam away from contending either. They’d be better off trading pieces for long term assets not a rental.
Thunder at least can trade Wallace and Williams and still have SGA, Schroder if he goes back to OKC from TOR, Giddey, Joe as back court options and Dieng to soak up Williams minutes. Plus they can always trade from their stash of draft picks to improve the bench.
Consider Siakam has been crystal clear he will not extend with any team, his trade value is greatly diminished. Toronto fleeced the knickers with og it won’t happen with siakam, in my opinion.
OG’s agent is the team president’s son. He’ll stay a Knick.
That 2nd rounder is basically a 1st, but both OG (Precious, Malachi) and IQ, RJ fit better with their new teams. Knicks need an answer to Tatum; and overall better defense to contend. The Raptors were starved for creative/offensive minded guards. Of course offense it is easier to track and appreciate, but to say we fleeced the Knicks is excessive.
We will see how it plays out
Hot take…
Trolling late?
Kings can offer the most value with Barnes and Huerter each going to 3rd teams that are willing to send Raptors back younger players along with Davion Mitchell.
Pacers can send Hield’s expiring contract and some not too exciting young players. If Pacers want a pick/roll partner for Halliburton they have to be willing to give up 3 FRPs to get Siakam.
Pistons make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Why would Siakam resign with a team going nowhere?
