Magic forward Franz Wagner has been on a roll lately, but he unfortunately sustained a right ankle injury in the first quarter on Wednesday against Sacramento and was later ruled out for the remainder of the contest (Twitter link).
According to the Magic, Wagner had X-rays after exiting the game, which came back negative. He was formally diagnosed with a right ankle sprain.
A former lottery pick (No. 8 overall in 2021) who will be eligible for a rookie scale extension in the offseason, Wagner is Orlando’s second-leading scorer, narrowly trailing Paolo Banchero. The 22-year-old German is averaging career highs in multiple statistics in 2023/24, including points (21.3), rebounds (6.0) assists (4.0) and steals (1.2) per night through 33 games (34.2 MPG).
Wagner has been very durable to this point in his career, appearing in 79 games as a rookie and 80 last season. He has yet to miss a game in ’23/24.
Ankle sprains can drastically vary as far as recovery timelines go, so we’ll have to wait for more information to be released on Wagner to have a better idea on if he might miss more time.
Orlando Magic different year same old problem, Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz injuries. At some point this Orlando Magic FO will have to separate heart from business and get rid of these two players, it is unbelievable that with these two future super stars in Franz and Paolo they haven’t done anything to bring some help in a third star player, looks last night game vs Sacramento Franz went down with an ankle sprain practically left Paolo alone vs Sacramento. Also this FO is way too soft with injuries in players of the team. When players in others got injured takes weeks to heal but rather the Orlando Magic players take months. They need to put the whole team in the trade market (except Franz and Paolo) and get a third super star.
I wouldn’t be so fast to go in on a superstar. I do agree it’s time to move on from these two they have become unreliable. A steady point guard not even a superstar would transform this team, those are not in abundance just ask the Bulls. They are a Lonzo Ball away from making serious noise in the east but without him they are fighting to be ousted in the playing last season.
110 % agreed with you about the point guard necessity, but there isn’t too many point guards available in this coming free agents 2024, the only two point guards that I think could help Orlando right away are Tyus Jones and Malcolm Brogdon. AB will be the starting Orlando Magic point guard the future but meanwhile either Tyus Jones or Brogdon could be a good option for Orlando.
I think Brogdon fits the mold a little better as the fo seems to value long guards. Tyus is 6’1″ but man he can shoot. I was thinking Spencer Dinwiddie is a tall guard that could facilitate the offense, but if they wanted to swing for the fence I would target either Terry Rozier or Dejounte Murray. Their respective teams are not arguably great with them but adding a tough guard like them would do wonders for this squad.
