As the Warriors grieve the loss of assistant coach Dejan Milojevic, Friday’s home game against the Mavericks has been postponed, the NBA announced (via Twitter). The game will be rescheduled for a later date.
Milojevic passed away Wednesday morning at a Salt Lake City hospital after suffering a heart attack during a team dinner Tuesday night. The 46-year-old had been part of Steve Kerr’s staff since the 2021/22 season. Before that, he was a star player and coach in Europe.
Friday’s game against Dallas was set to be televised by ESPN, so it will be replaced by a Nets-Lakers contest, the league added. Golden State’s scheduled meeting with Utah last night was also postponed, and the team won’t play again until hosting Atlanta next Wednesday.
After facing the Lakers on Wednesday, the Mavericks were set to travel to San Francisco this afternoon, according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News (Twitter link). Instead, they will return home to prepare for Monday’s game against Boston.
I just don’t see the warriors coming back from all these set backs this season. Time to trade the expiring contracts and just play the young players rest of the year. it feels a lot like a lost season. Its going to take them time to get over this because he been with the team for 3 years and those at the dinner watch a man die before their eyes. basketball is not important at this time.
A lot of people don’t realize this, even those it was written about. The Warriors FO felt after losing to Toronto, and Thompson going down twice, it was time for a rebuild. That is why they drafted the raw Wiseman and brought in Dejan. He had done so well with Zubac and Jokic. But, the Boston win screwed that up. That team was probably the weakest of all their Finals victories. Hard to play a raw guy and defend a Championship at the same time. Sometimes, you just have to appreciate things and not criticize so much.
A true rebuild is to trade Klay, Dray, and yes even Curry. Most fans can not handle the truth. It’s very painful for sure, but Warriors really dont have other choice if they want to be great again.
That’s not necessarily true. There are a lot of teams that have been tanking for decades and have remained mediocre. Getting top-10 draft choices doesn’t necessarily lead. Plenty of great players have been acquired in the later stages of the draft. Plenty of terrible players have been drafted in the top-10. You just need great scouts, good coaching, and patience.
Rebuild is not just about accumulating many high draft picks. It’s about developing young talents, and it’s very tough to do when they are not getting playing time or allowed to make mistakes. They must also become the faces of franchise and not riding the bench in the shadow of the vets. Minnesota’s Edwards, Thunders SGA, Morant, etc are examples. Wiseman should have played a lot more, if Warriors had no intention of playing him, they should not have drafted him. Even Poole should have been a permanent starter last yr. He started 48 gms 2 yrs ago, and they decided to give him mega contract, so they should have just passed the torch. Poole was terrible? So what! It would have given him more confidence and raised his trade value! And a veteran could have helped the 2nd unit. And our other young players would have been motivated by the move and not feel hampered by the veterans. It’s NOT like Warriors were contenders last yr. Same thing this yr – they must play Pods, Trayce, Kuminga, and Moody. They already had way too many DNPs . Not fair for 3rd yr players who are extension eligible in the offseason.
All Dynasty’s come to a end. many people do not want to admit that the core 3 has not played that well this year. One of the reasons they need to keep draft picks because you need to rebuild. The new CBA hurt the warriors because they can’t spend to keep going. the West is very tough this year and like I said at the start of the year one injury can knock a team out.
They are the legends and it will be painful to see them leave, but gotta look toward the future. Yes, there is always a chance that it can backfire, but how many more yrs can they play? Will they willingly and gracefully play off the bench and pass on the torch?
Draymond and Klay are not legends lmao
They are great players and likely HOFers but 100% not legends.
Curry, Bron, Durant. Those are legends. Draymond and Klay aren’t in that realm at all
Weakest? ESPN gave Warriors a 14% chance to win the 2022 finals.
I don’t know what “weakest” you are talking about.
I think what he meant is that the 2022 team was the weakest of the four Warriors championship teams. Which is obviously true.
Whatever happened to the show must go on
It will go on. Just at a different time
Whatever happened to humanity
If you’re looking for humanity you came to the wrong website lol
I’d like to see if they can get some momentum and then Paul comes back. But the up and down inconsistency of Wiggins…. Trade him for Budy Hield??? And Payton/Hield>Wiggens
