The Pacers have re-signed veteran forward James Johnson, but this time he’ll receive a 10-day contract instead of a rest-of-season deal, the team announced in a press release.
Indiana waived Johnson a couple days ago in order to create roster space to acquire fourth-year guard Kira Lewis, who was immediately flipped to Toronto as a salary-matching piece for two-time All-Star Pascal Siakam.
The Pacers had two open 15-man roster spots after sending out three players (Bruce Brown and Jordan Nwora were the others) for Siakam — one of those spots will be going to Johnson.
The move was expected, as Tony East of SI.com reported shortly after Johnson was released that the team planned to bring him back if he cleared waivers.
Inking Johnson to a 10-day contract will give Indiana roster flexibility in the event of more trades ahead of the February 8 deadline. As our tracker shows, the 15-year veteran is the sixth player to sign a 10-day deal this season.
Technically, the Pacers are paying Johnson twice right now, as his previous contract was guaranteed after he remained on the roster through the cut-down deadline earlier this month. The dead money cap hit for that deal is about $1.4MM.
Johnson, who has played for 10 different NBA teams, averaged 4.8 minutes per game across five appearances in 2023/24. The 36-year-old played 18 games for the Pacers last season.
His on-court contributions have been modest the past two seasons, but clearly the Pacers value Johnson’s leadership and professionalism, which is why they keep bringing him back.
Which ACC trio would you rather have on your team if you could have them for their whole careers, Kyrie/Mase & Miles Plumlee (Duke), Jeff Teague/Al-Farouq Aminu/James Johnson (Wake), Spud Webb/Nate McMillan/Vinny Del Negro (NC State), Charlie Ward/Sam Cassell/Bobby Sura (FSU), Hubert Davis/George Lynch/Montross (UNC) or Jarrett Jack/BJ Elder/Bosh (Tech)? Rank a top3 if possible…
1 Ward Sura Cassell
2 Teague Aminu Johnson
3 Webb McMillan del negro
4 Plumlees and Irving
5 Davis lynch montross
6 Jack Elder Bosh
Can you tell me anymore college prospects you like? I am try to go over every player in college basketball right now
To me the boy Da’Ron Holmes was ready last yr… link to m.youtube.com
I know about Holmes. Yes he could of came out last year. A 6’10 PF/C Junior Playing for Dayton. I liked him last season. I think he could be a really good PF. He learned how to shoot a 3 this year so that’s good. Do you have anymore?
I’ve been wasting my time writing down college basketball rosters and stats and there’re some good underrated guys out there; PF Jevon Porter on Pepperdine is good, sg cam Carter on Kansas state is a lockdown and had a 25 pt game this yr, javian McCollum on Oklahoma is a good all around player, Isaiah Stevens on Colorado state is a good modern day pg, Justin McKay on Hawaii isn’t good but fun to watch imo, Joe toussaint on texas tech is a lockdown defender. Jabri abdur Rahim on Georgia is good and then Maximus Edwards on George Washington is an amazing scorer
Jason Edwards out of North Texas, Tamin Lipsey Iowa State, Ajay Mitchell, Jamarion Sharp 7’5, Keshad Johnson Arizona, Jaedon Ledee San Diego State, Tyon Grant-Foster Grand canyon i like alot, Clarence Daniels New Hampshire, Isaac Jones Washington State, Khalen Robinson played three years with no minutes until this year Little Rock, Terrence Edwards his team is winning alot, Xavier Johnson Southern Illinois most improved, Babatunde Akingbola George Washington shot block specialist, Isaiah Cozart defensive specialist, Damani McEntire steal specialist, Saint Thomas leading his team with everything, Jaxson Robinson sixth man shooter and leading scorer Tommy Bruner out of Denver
I didn’t know there was another Porter, I like his height at 6’11 and can shoot, looks like he got injured this year but I like him, Carter has improved, I have seen him, at 6’3 he needs to learn PG spots though. I have seen and he McCollum looks decent, I have seen Stevens, was leading in assists and is scoring he is good. I cannot find anything on Justin McKay. Joe looks like a 5th senior, I’ll take your word he is a good defender. I have seen Rahims kid and finally got to play. A tall SG or SF, needs to score more though. I don’t know much about Edwards, he is averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds for a SG. I like Porter and Stevens but don’t know McKay still. If you got more let me know
Hello?
Selton Miguel, Graham Ike, Kadin shedrick, Jaxon Robinson on byu, Jordan dingle, Markus Burton, yves missi on Baylor, I can’t think of anymore off the top of my head
I wrote above about jaxson Robinson. Dingle has taking his scoring down from 23 to 10 yikes. New school and sixth man minutes. Should of came out last year
I just looked up every player in the division 1 NCAA. Ughhh I got more
6’9″ Jaedon LeDee, San Diego State, he led them to a road upset over Gonzaga and is at 21.6 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, 40% 3PT.
7’2″ Hunter Dickinson, Kansas 19.3 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.4 BPG, 1.2 SPG, 44.4% 3PT
Yes I put LeDee on my list above. He and Xavier Johnson are the most improved in college basketball. I like LeDee alot. I think Hunter has a future too in the NBA. Nobody likes Edey. I appreciate you mentioning them. Good find sir
