Pascal Siakam was still with the Raptors for Friday’s game at Sacramento, and he said he didn’t follow a busy day on the rumor mill regarding him and the Kings, writes Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Kings were “ramping up” their pursuit of Siakam, but he followed up that later in the day by saying trade talks between Toronto and Sacramento are on hold.
“I don’t really pay attention to anything,” Siakam said after the game. “I have people who work on that stuff. I play basketball. I’m a basketball player and that’s all I try to focus on.”
Siakam will be a popular name on the trade market leading up to the February 8 deadline. Numerous teams have already been in touch with the Raptors about the two-time All-Star, who has a $37.9MM expiring contract. Siakam complimented what general manager Monte McNair has been able to do with the Kings, but repeated that he’s focusing on how he can help Toronto rather than listening to trade rumors.
“I’m here. I don’t really think about that,” Siakam said. “I try to take it day by day, to be honest. I can’t control a lot of things, so I just continue to play basketball and come in every day and get better.”
There’s more from the Pacific Division:
- Sources have confirmed to James Ham of Kings Beat (subscription required) that the Kings have made calls around the league to gauge the trade value of Kevin Huerter and Davion Mitchell. Jake Fischer reported Friday that both players, along with Harrison Barnes, could be on the move before the deadline.
- The Clippers are crediting continuity for their recent success, according to Andrew Greif of The Los Angeles Times. L.A. has seen several seasons short circuited by injuries, and Greif notes that the current starting five reached a milestone Friday with 265 minutes together, which marks the most of any Clippers lineup since the team acquired Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the summer of 2019. “As a guy who’s been here that whole time and been a starter the whole time, it’s been very frustrating,” Ivica Zubac said. “I thought a lot about my love for the basketball in those four years and I can really tell you, I can say I like this game a lot because I was tested a lot. … It just shows when we’re healthy, we’re a great team.”
- The Clippers and Lakers are rapidly heading in opposite directions as they prepare for Sunday’s showdown, notes Khobi Price of The Orange County Register. Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell has been upgraded to questionable and could return after missing the last three games with a bruised tailbone, tweets Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Clippers 22-12 and 3 gms out. Gotta admit, I’m impressed. LA showdown should be telling.
A lot of pundits hated the Harden move. I thought it would fail too. Seems like it’s working out after the rough start. I’m interested in watching them going forward!
Harden needed a change and it was more than just demanding a trade. He’s an aging player and LA is home and closer to his mom, who’s going through some health issues. He’s playing with heart again and I love to see it.
Lol longggggg way to go before judgment passes on harden and the clippers. I’ve seen this harden happy and alls well in uno land a half dozen times before. Meltdowns, injuries, choke and pouting gone???
Harden looks in better shape to me. I guess he wants to be in LA.
Just a couple random ideas
Lakers decide they need to do something drastic and trade Reaves, Hayes and a first for DeJounte Murray. Then in order to get back some shooting make this deal
Lakers: Kevin Hueter
Kings: Wendell Carter Jr
Magic: DAngelo Russell and 2 seconds (SAC)
Lakers line up
Murray Hueter Bron Vando AD
Vincent Reddish/Christie Prince Hachimura Wood
By doing so also open up a roster spot. I think this would be a huge upgrade on what they currently have a well worth the first round pick you’d be losing. Murray would be a solid third star, really good defensively, great size and can be a scorer or playmaker for you. However I think Kevin Hueter is the real steal here. He’d be a terrific fit with LeBron James.
Think it would be a great move by ATL, Austin reaves is a solid young SG on a great contract, plus a first plus Hayes as a cheap back up for Onyeka and ship out Capela.
Think it would be great for the Kings. Carter Jr could play as a part time starter at PF and allow you to play two bigs. He’d help Sabonis out a lot on defence. He could also be used as the back up big. He’d just add great flexibility.
Also think it could be good for the Magic, right now Carter Jr isn’t get much playing time as Goga and Moritz have been fantastic. Orlando has a whole have been great but one pair Jon that hasn’t been settled for them is starting PG. Dlo would be battling Fultz for the job and could secure it with some strong performances. Fultz also is an upcoming FA so could hang around long term if he beats him out. Dlo was great as a leader in Brooklyn, would love to see him helping Paolo in Orlando. Plus on top of that you get picks anyways
No reason for ORL to entertain this.
Why would the magic want D’Lo? Wouldn’t the Lakers be the one giving up 2 draft picks not the Kings. Hueter is the best player of the bunch so how does that makes the Kings better?
Why is Orl going backwards for 2 second rd picks ?
Makes no sense
The Lakers are the Yankees, every player they have is awesome and are desired by every team in the league! The truth is that they average or below average, there is a reason why they have a losing record and they are not going anywhere fast! The Lakers are the reason why you don’t let a player like Labron make personal decisions, he will be wanting out soon! The only player that NBA teams really want is A. Davis and they better trade him soon to recoup all those soon to be high draft picks that Labron had them trade away! Put a fork in because the Lakers are done!
Clippers looking good, I hope they are healthy in the playoffs. They could have beaten the Suns last year with Kawhi.
Siakam to pacers or OKC.
Might be a 3 team deal…
My pick is OKC who has the draft picks to make the trade work.
Why would OKC mess up their group. You underrate chemistry. Ironic for a fan whose team leveraged it to won a title.
Masai is mismanaging this whole thing and it’s a shame because I thought he was good. What have u done for me lately league…
Why would you care about a team you hate or the players of said team though?? Hurt dogs keep hollering. Disliking raptors or their players
won’t create a remedy for your unhappiness in life. It definitely won’t turn you from average to successful. There’s nothing impressive about it.
You take every comment on the raptors as a personal attack and never counter with any comments relevant to basketball. Stick to Facebook champ.
Seems like this is the year Siakam gets traded. Raptors going to redo and retool their team. They should get back good value.
It’s going to be interesting to see where he lands.
