8:17pm: The Kings are ending their pursuit of Siakam, at least for now, sources tell Charania (Twitter link). That could change, but the teams are no longer talking, Charania adds.
6:42pm: Appearing on Stadium’s show The Rally (Twitter video link), Shams Charania confirms the Raptors “are ramping up trade talks around Pascal Siakam.”
“I’m told the Sacramento Kings are emerging as a serious suitor (for) Siakam,” Charania said. “They’re among the offers and options that Toronto has.”
Charania went on to explain that the Kings are increasingly interested in forming a “big three” featuring De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and Siakam.
However, as Charania observes, Siakam is playing on an expiring $37.9MM contract, which will complicate any negotiations for potential suitors. If Siakam is open to re-signing with a team interested in trading for him, that could help facilitate a deal; if he’s not, it could “dissuade some teams,” Charania said.
Fischer cited Sacramento, Indiana and Detroit as prime landing spots for Siakam earlier today, also reporting that the Kings were open to moving Davion Mitchell and have been gauging the value of a package headed by Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter. Multiple reporters have stated former No. 4 overall pick Keegan Murray is off the table in trade talks.
A two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA forward, Siakam is averaging 22.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists on .521/.288/.751 shooting in 34 games this season (34.9 minutes). The 29-year-old has spent all eight of his NBA seasons to this point with the Raptors, who selected him No. 27 overall back in 2016.
I feel like the King’s have a weak case unless Masai wants draft picks, which I think is fine but a good young piece likely better than Mitchell is also important. Maybe there is a third team.
There isn’t single team in the league that can bring in any significant payroll without sending out matching, and certainly none that can approach Siakam’s money.
Thunder have young pieces and payroll to match.
Siakam and Schroeder to Thunder makes a lot of sense too
Siakam is not going to take them over the top. The way they are constructed he is the 4th option. Not stunting the development of Jalen and Chet for Siakam.
Trading for Siakam wouldn’t stunt the development of either.
Siakam is going to need the ball or he will press to get the ball as he is an incoming FA.
Not giving up any significant pieces like a Wallace or Giddey for a likely 1 year rental in Siakam. I don’t think he would stay beyond the year and if he did, he is the 4th option.
Masai like players under team control. They could do Barnes, Huerter, Mitchell 2025 and 2027 firsts. Doesn’t seem like a big haul for Siakim but he is having a down year and the kings would be taking a risk that he walks in free agency.
Agree , Dav is Meh and they might not have too much use w Harrison Barnes
Huerter is a great fit but they might need that 3 rd team to give this legs
Hawks trade Bogdanovic, OO, Patty Mills, Bufkin, Johnson, AJ Griffin and Gueye to the Raptors for Siakam, Temple and McDaniels. Raptors waive Young, Mills and Otto Porter
“Murray is off the table.” Guess the Kings won’t be getting him then.
Even if it were possible, trading Murray for siakam is so lopsided for the raptors.
Yeah I’m a Raptors fan. I completely understand why this isn’t happening. I think Siakam is awesome but trading Murray would epically dumb by Sacramento. Without him the Raptors are just taking on long term money for ok players which likely pushes them into the tax. Makes no sense for either team to make this deal.
Obviously I wouldn’t complain if the Kangz still exist but I don’t think that is the case anymore. They finally have a competent GM from what I can tell.
As a Raptor fan you should understand Murray is off the table.
That’s the beauty of a trade. Kings can take Murray off the table – and in turn the Raptors can take Siakam off the table.
Prediction – Raptors end up with one of Murray, Mathurin or Kuminga in Siakam deal.
Kevin Huerter, Lyles, Davian Mitchell, Len, Colby Jones and Sasha V with a pick for Siakam and Temple. Raptors waive Young, Porter and Len. Kings promote Ellis and JTA
How about Fox, Hurter (Who they Want to get rid off) and HBarnes for Siakahm, Trent (shooter to replace Hurter) and Schroeder
This allows Kings to make Siakahm and Sabinos to focus of offense with better shooter (catch-shoot) around, Fox is more mia range pulls.
Hahahaha. Fox is an mvp candidate casual
lol bless your heart
Fox is their franchise player and so far has been a top 10 player in the league this season, they’re not trading him. The whole point of a trade would be to get Fox some help. The team craters when he sits. Even when they stagger Fox’s minutes with Sabonis.
Fox isn’t just a a mid range pull up guy anymore. He’s shooting .390 from deep on 8.7 attempts, that’s good for 8th the in the league.
This is the same guy who suggested the other day that the Mavs should trade Luka to the Raptors for Siakam. He also repeatedly referred to KAT as “Karl Townhouse” on another thread. He’s not to be taken seriously.
Townhouse has a very large basement apartment.
How drunk are you?
Though we all have our vices, I do. or drink, Moose.
Siakam and Sabonis is a serious front line.
Seems like a pretty obvious explanation. Sacramento rightfully don’t want to part with Murray and nothing else really interests Toronto as the key piece coming back.
Yep, from the Raptors perspective it’s Murray or bust, and the Kings understandably don’t want to trade him. I don’t see a deal happening here.
Unless it is at the trade deadline and Raps have to just get something back.
Smart move by the Knicks. No reason to lose assets and then overpay on an extension for the dude
Posturing…
SAC will include Murray in a deal to get Siakam (if they’re convinced Siakam will re-up with them)
Murray is too much for Pascal, Kuminga is probably the best young player we’ll get offered for Pascal
You know nothing about the Kings lol
Still say Thunder make sense.
Thunder get Siakam and Schroeder
Raptors get
Cason Wallace and Jaylin Williams as young players
Bertans Micic and Kenrich Williams as salary matching who raptors can trade or cut.
Pokusevski as a lottery ticket who’s only 22. Thunder also have Terrance Mann who’s only 22 as well. Another lottery ticket type.
Thunder are 2nd in the west.
SGA, Giddey, Jalen Williams, Siakam, Holgrem starting 5
Schroeder Dort Dieng in 2nd unit and would need to fill out roster with other trades but would push the Thunder to near the top of contenders in the league.
Everyone in Sacramento knew this was never going to happen. We all wanted OG over Spicy P and when that domino didn’t fall it was pretty clear there was no deal with the Raptors.
Still think Lauri could be a King if the Jazz are pick hungry
Pascal to Detroit, they need the experience, they need the versatility, and they need the help.
Coach Casey worked a bunch with Siakim in Toronto. He’d pair well with Cade and Duren.
Pascal for Bojan, Wiseman, Isiah Livers and a 1st
Wiseman I think would do really well in Toronto if given the opportunity which he should as Poeltls main back up. He played some age group basketball with Scottie Barnes. Bojan gives them another shooting and scoring option at the forward spot who can be a starter or come off the bench. I’d suggest starting for his spacing. On top of that you also get a first.
Meanwhile Detroit gets the help it needs.
I’d make that Knicks trade I suggested
Evan Fouriner and draft capital for Burks and Bagley. The draft capital you get from NY basically give you what you need to upgrade from Bojan to Pascal at the expense of Wiseman. Pistons apparently have interest and really want to add a PF. Just makes sense
That would be a pretty underwhelming return from the Raptors’ perspective. Wiseman is basically a lottery ticket at this point and not the young player with star potential the Raps want for Siakam.
I mean for OG they got RJ, IQ (who needs extending and a second round pick)
Siakim has even less value because his contract is for 37mil not 18mil so many teams can’t afford that straight away. Secondly he’s on an expiring deal so there a chance he could leave who ever he ends up on. Thirdly he’s now 29, slowly going out his prime and the chance of a fall off is considerable.
I don’t think the return is that bad, Bojan is a decent player and if you don’t like him he does have some value if you want to flip him. James Wiseman gives you a back up centre which you don’t really have. Yes he has been incredibly underwhelming thus far but I think he’s still got massive potential, Isiah Livers again a decent young player and another big which they lack. Then lastly a first round pick.
Not really that bad, a role player, 2 promising young players and a first
Unless you’re prepared to give up Ivey and Thompson you can stop inflating your assets. Wiseman is barely a lottery ticket anymore. Bojan is just to make the money work. Livers isn’t going to move the needle and how protected/year is the 1st rounder? This is a poorly thought up trade.
A 1.5 hour pursuit. Shams is all over it.
pistons(Bogdanovic, Wiseman ,Thompson twin, picks) or warriors(Kuminga, Wiggins, Moody and picks)
Boy, that did NOT escalate quickly.
Life is a journey isn’t it?
There are two targets that the Raptors covet; Murray and Mathurin. An argument could be made for Kuminga/Moody if Wiggins is part of the deal. Detroit has assets but are not in a window to make these moves. The Hawks and Mavs have far less desirable assets (willing to move). Ditto the Thunder unless they want to move a real asset instead of 8 for 3 player trade that some are suggesting.
Schroeder will be in his own trade, likely for a prospect or pick to any guard needy teams. To suggest he would be involved in the Siakam trade is ludicrous as he would fetch more in an uncomplicated (by salary) trade. Any player attached to Siakam in a trade would be for salary matching purposes – it won’t be someone with value (i.e Schroeder, Boucher, etc) but more likely those with expiring contracts.
I would hold firm unless I am getting Murray/Barnes/Huerter or Mathurin/Walker/Hield. I would strongly consider any package with Ivey/Thompson if the Pistons are willing to move them.
I like the overall value the Raptors get in return if they could land Kuminga, Moody and Wiggins for Siakam. If they got draft picks on top of that, so much the better. That said, Wiggins and Kuminga don’t do much to help Raptors spacing issues – in fact they probably make it worse.
So if we agree that Murray for Siakam straight up is an bit an overpay by the Kings, I’d be all for adding a lightly protected FRP to deal and a SRP to the mix – contingent on whether Siakam resigns. In other words, Kings only get the picks if Siakam leaves at end of the year.
