Before Immanuel Quickley was traded to Toronto, the Hawks discussed a deal that would have sent Dejounte Murray to the Knicks in exchange for Quickley and a first-round pick, according to Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times. Woike references the trade talks as part of a look at what the Lakers might do ahead of the February 8 deadline. L.A. has been mentioned as a possible suitor for Murray, who is considered likely to be dealt soon.
Woike expects the Hawks to ask for Austin Reaves in any deal with the Lakers involving Murray. He adds that if the cost is a first-round pick and a young player capable of contributing right away — which is what Atlanta asked from New York — then it’s hard to picture L.A. meeting it without parting with Reaves. However, sources tell Woike that the Lakers’ front office hasn’t included Reaves in any trade discussions.
Second-year guard Max Christie has moved into the rotation, but Woike notes that his value is lessened because he’s headed toward restricted free agent this summer. Woike identifies the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick as their greatest trade asset, but he’s not sure if the team would give it up without at least some light protection.
There’s more from the Southeast Division:
- Kevin Love is the latest addition to the Heat‘s injury list, according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald. After playing 16 minutes Friday night, the veteran big man is listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup with Charlotte because of a left knee contusion. Jimmy Butler is doubtful with a joint sprain in his right toe, meaning he’ll likely miss his seventh straight game, but Chiang says there’s hope he might be able to return Monday at Brooklyn.
- Travel issues will prevent Cole Swider from joining the Heat for Sunday’s game, tweets Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. Swider was sent to Miami’s G League affiliate in Sioux Falls earlier this week and is stuck because of severe weather in the Midwest. He’s expected to join the team in Brooklyn for Monday’s contest.
- The Magic aren’t using Markelle Fultz in back-to-back games while he works his way back from tendinitis in his left knee, tweets Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel.
Austin Reaves and a 1st for Dejounte, IQ and a 1st for Dejounte, these are deals that just make zero sense from the Hawks pov, which I promise does exist
I trust you, you’re the same guy that told us that John Collins wouldn’t get traded.
lol who are you?
Sounds like someone who paid attention
Sankara hasn’t had a reasonable comment in years
Was better when they just asked ” Who would win in a 2 on 2 match Bugs Bunny and Lebron or Kobe and Daffy Duck” and silly stuff like that.
You have a crazy high value on your players. If Dejounte is worth so much, A.) Why is he on the block? – Which you said he wasn’t like 2 days ago – and B.) Why are the Hawks so bad?
Quickley is very similar to Murray. Not as good a one on one defender. So don’t really get the interest. I read Knicks prioritized OG first. So moved him to Toronto.
Hawks are a mess. They were better with McMillan as coach. They played team D under him. Don’t know what happened that he started losing the team. Hawks have not committed to a team. And are still changing it up now.
It’s obvious Murray and Young are not working. Imo Bogdan is a solid third guard. They need a defensive stud starting at the 2, that can shoot. That’s how you get most out of Young. I consider Murray a top young PG. I would not just give him away.
If Knicks really want him. Hawks should get in on a three way. And try and get Siakam. But you have to resign him. Okongwu is a player Raptors would value imo. He fits with Poeltl. And his timeline is right for them too.
I like Murray in NY and his timeline with Knicks. But my first choice is still DeM. Don’t get why Knicks aren’t looking at him. He put up 39 tonight.
Murray is a defensive stud that can shoot and he is indeed starting at the 2.
Idk if bulls want to trade demar before they move off of lavine . Demars been good for the team on and off the court, if they can’t agree on an extension by the deadline then take best offer
No mystery on the IQ trade discussion. IQ grades out favorably against Murray the last year and a half, and is 3 years younger. ATL acquired Murray from SAS when he was coming off a career year. Since then, IQ’s accumulated more WS in less time on the court, been more effective guarding bigger G’s (as TY’s backcourt partner has to) and is a better perimeter shooter.
Murray is 6’5 and long, but he’s skinny at 180 lbs. It shouldn’t be a surprise when he struggles guarding bigger more physical guards (his defensive reputation was built on the point). link to espn.com
Markelle Fultz, Chuma Okeke and Denver 1st round pick for Dejounte Murray. ATL can buyout Fultz since he will be free agent this summer and save some money, Chuma is from ATL maybe they can resign him for a very friendly amount plus Denver first round pick, yes I know it will be a very late pick but sometimes good players fall all the way to the end of the first round. ORLANDO in the other hand will get a very skilled offensive player that is what the Magic really needs at this moment.
