The Wizards are among the teams with interest in Knicks wing Quentin Grimes, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv, who also confirms that Washington center Daniel Gafford remains on New York’s radar. A report a couple weeks ago indicated that the Knicks had inquired on Gafford.
With Isaiah Hartenstein playing well in a starting role, Precious Achiuwa and Jericho Sims providing depth at the five, and Mitchell Robinson possibly on track to return before the season is over, the Knicks might already be set up front.
However, Robinson’s return this season isn’t a certainty and Hartenstein has missed the past two games with an injury of his own (left Achilles tendinopathy), so it sounds as if the Knicks haven’t ruled out the possibility of pursuing another frontcourt player. Still, if Hartenstein is back in the lineup within a week or so and feels good, I wouldn’t expect a center – especially one like Gafford, who wouldn’t be cheap – to be a focus at the deadline.
Here are a few more trade-related notes and rumors from around the NBA:
- Acquiring draft picks will be a top priority for the Wizards on the trade market, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, noting that the team wasn’t able to extract a first-rounder in its offseason deals involving Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis, and Monte Morris. Drafting and developing players is a specialty for multiple Wizards executives, including GM Will Dawkins and VP of player personnel Travis Schlenk, Windhorst observes, so the club has a “mandate” to restock its draft assets.
- The Raptors remain open for business, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca, who says Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett are believed to be off-limits, but anyone else could be on the table. Lewenberg identifies Dennis Schröder, Gary Trent, Chris Boucher, and Bruce Brown as the team’s top trade candidates and doesn’t close the door on the possibility of a Jakob Poeltl deal.
- Outside of Lauri Markkanen, who is virtually untouchable, Jordan Clarkson and Kelly Olynyk are the Jazz players generating the most trade interest, league sources tell Tony Jones of The Athletic. Jones adds that the Knicks are among the team showing the most interest in Clarkson.
- As his name pops up in trade rumors, Hornets forward Miles Bridges tells Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer that his preference would be to remain in Charlotte. “Like I said before, the Hornets have been behind me and I want to stay here,” Bridges said. “I want to be here and that’s never going to change. So, as much talk as people hear that’s going around, just know that I want to stay with the Hornets.” If that’s truly what he wants, he has the power to make it happen, given that he has the right to veto any trade involving him this season.
Since Bridges wouldn’t have bird rights if traded they can essentially trade him and have minimal worry about resigning him next year into their huge amount of cap space
This is the path I’d take
The Wizard always do a terrible job at drafting.
and developing talent and selecting Head Coaches and making trades. Outside of this they do a great jog.
Don’t know why but I think Lauri would be a really good fit for Toronto in this little rebuild they are doing. Just a forward that can space the floor, give you consistent production and has good length. The problem with Lauri is the asking price is just to high so I’d actually go for Santi Aldama.
7 foot, 23 years old, only 33% on threes this season but I think that’ll only improve over his career. He’s stuck behind JJJ for ever being the starting PF in Memphis but in his 22 minutes a night of action outs up 10-5, I just think on a team like the raptors as a starter he’d quickly develop into a 18-10 unicorn PF.
The deal I’d try make is
Luke Kennard and Santi Aldama for Schroder, McDaniels and 2 seconds
GG Jackson from grizzlies who’s on a 2 way contract would be good for raps. Sure he’s playing now but he will be in the same situation as Lofton was. Good and talented with playing time but they value JJJ and not two way backup players.
No way Memphis trades Aldama. Especially for those players and two seconds. He’s an up-and-coming young talent. It would take a 1st round pick and two seconds and better players.
122 – 84 TRASHING of the Nuggets. A healthy full squad Nuggets team.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAaaaaaaaahhhhhhh
so who here was telling us. The Knicks are worse after trade. “A trade we got Fleeced on , “his words”.
Then World Champions must be real bad then ………. How’s that taste LOL.
Every team has a bad game. Denver was playing the last game of a long road trip.
Rather have Dinwiddie than Clarkson …..
Brown is a Thibs kind of player. I can see them going for him. It also Means Grimes won’t be part of trade. So could there be another ……..
I know Thibs values Murray. But he would be my second choice.
DeM and Drummond >>>> to NYK …..
Hey AL what are you smoking you rather have a washed up Spencer Dinwiddie. Did you see the Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets game. Spencer is washed up and he isn’t better than the former six man of the year Jordan Clarkson. Your campaigning for this washed up player is ridiculous and delusional my friend. But I do agree with you we should trade for Demar Derozen the mid range marksman. With Randle getting hurt this afternoon during the Knicks thrashing of the Miami Heat we are going need a another bonefilde scorer so Derozen, Jordan Clarkson, or Murray would fit the bill but forget about that bum Spencer Dinwiddie. And Knicks fans Duece Mcbride is growing nicely in front of our eyes. And OG is a mini Kwahi Leonard with his Seven feet wing span, stout defense, and timely offense. I think we fleeced the Raptors. And the center we got in the trade Precious is looking like a young rebounding machine. And did anyone see Murray tweet about how he is being used in Atlanta. They say as talented as he is he can be a cancer in the locker room.
McDaniels and a second round pick for Bol & Watanabe.
Bruce for Wendal Carter Jr and Okeke with a first. Bruce for Okongwu and Patty Mills with a first. Bruce Brown to OKC for Bertans, Jaylin Williams and a 2024 first.
I like the Atlanta trade
GRIMES is a keeper. I see the next Allan Houston possibly. I only trade Grimes in a package for Mikal plain and simple. Grimes, Fournier, Flynn and 3 picks and possibly 2 pick swaps. Mikal needs to send his Nova brothers. If not this year then soon.
I’m not sure what being on their “radar” means, but I’d be shocked if the NYK are currently seriously considering dealing for Gafford. Any minutes they have available at C are temporary, at best, and contingent most likely; and I don’t think this reticent FO is about to go 2k and make muliple trades of C’s to break even at best.
WSH’s has a roster that can yield a bunch of SRPs, but, assuming their not talking about Coulibaly, I don’t see much on that roster that would yield a FRP. Rentals don’t bring back FRPs as a rule. Of their longer term deals, maybe Kuzma or Avdija for the right team.
