Shams Charania of The Athletic said a few days ago during an appearance on FanDuel’s Run it Back show (Twitter video link) that he has “not gotten the sense” that the Sixers will aggressively pursue Dejounte Murray, despite being identified earlier this month as a potential suitor for the Hawks guard.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype also cast some doubt this week on the idea that Murray will be a top target for Philadelphia, suggesting that he’s a “questionable fit” next to rising 76ers star Tyrese Maxey.
However, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer isn’t ruling out the possibility, exploring the idea of the Sixers going after Murray and positing that he would be a better fit alongside Maxey than he has been with Trae Young in Atlanta, since Maxey wouldn’t be uncomfortable operating off the ball and focusing on scoring.
Still, Pompey acknowledges that the Hawks’ reported asking price for Murray – two first-round picks and a quality player – would be steep for a Philadelphia team that isn’t necessarily loaded with valuable assets. It’s also unclear whether the Sixers view Murray as the sort of player for whom they’d be willing to sacrifice future cap flexibility, including 2024 cap room.
Here are a few more trade-related notes and rumors from around the NBA:
- Brad Townsend of The Dallas News previews the trade deadline from the Mavericks‘ perspective, noting that minority owner and head of basketball operations Mark Cuban confirmed during a recent radio appearance that the team would like to further fortify its frontcourt. “If we can get a big who can also create off the dribble, that’d be a plus,” Cuban said. “Six-eight or bigger.”
- After being sent from Indiana to Toronto this week, veteran guard Bruce Brown knows that he’s considered a candidate to be moved again before the trade deadline, but he tells Michael Grange of Sportsnet.ca (Twitter link) that he’d be fine staying with the Raptors and hasn’t asked them to seek a deal. “I don’t know anything. I’m not requesting anything,” Brown said “… That’s up to (team president) Masai (Ujiri), whatever he wants to do. If he moves me he moves me. If he doesn’t, I’ll stay. It is what it is.”
- After ducking below the luxury tax line by sending Kira Lewis to Toronto (via Indiana), what’s next for the Pelicans on the trade market? Christian Clark of NOLA.com explores that topic, suggesting that the team will almost certainly continue to keep an eye out for a center. Cavaliers starter Jarrett Allen has long been a top target for New Orleans, but he’s unlikely to be available, so a player like Wendell Carter of the Magic or Onyeka Okongwu of the Hawks could be a more viable option, suggests Clark. The poison pill provision applies to Okongwu, which could complicate any deal that involves him.
Does 76ers have enough assets to acquire Murray?
1 good player and 2 good draft picks
Third team
Rockets can offer Jalen Green
They have 3 first round picks and a whole bunch of expiring contracts.
Hawks need a good player to help them make playoffs
Think outside of box
Trade idea
Hawks get a top tier star by offering Murray and Okongwu
For the Lakers
The best trade idea I can think of
Lakers get Murray
Hawks get a star from third team
Third team get DLo, 2029 First, Lakers 2028 first round Swap and Lakers 2030 First Round Swap
I think that’s DUH’S, or perhaps DUZ ..
Since the Sixers are a top team, their 1st round picks will be late 1st round. You rarely find an impact player at the end of the first round. Great players are usually in the top 5 picks. So they will be in essence trading 2nd tier players for a quality player that defends, scores 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Shoots over 38 percent from 3-point range. Dejounte has a better shooting percent than Maxey and is 6′ 5″ which is taller than Maxey. Great defender. He will be traded, where? that remains to be seen. If the Sixers want to compete for a championship, they need to get better. Embiid ain’t getting any younger and is becoming injury prone as he ages and gains weight.
Inury prone always
I think the Sixers are good the way they are, maybe a minor trade involving Marcus Morris or Springer to get someone like Bruce Brown. But I wouldnt make a major move, the team is flowing well.
Acquiring Bruce Brown would be a major move & would require more than Twin &/or JSpringer
They are, but they won’t win a championship with the current team and Brown isn’t going to move the needle. If he was that much of difference maker, the Pacers would have kept him. Embiid and Maxey are good, but they need a 3rd star. Harris isn’t that guy.
Philly don’t have enough to trade for Dejounte but they could prob come up with a package for Dre Hunter if they’re willing to include Melton
Anyone could come up with a package for Dre Hunter.
That’s funny.
ATL’s asking price for Murray is rightly vague. But assuming they mean a quality young player, and FRPs that will vest in the next few years, then PHI can’t be a serious player.
None of the big name teams mentioned have.
LAL don’t have quality players to be center piece.
Bucks don’t either
Pelicans might be the only team if they want.
“A team has yet to emerge that is willing to meet Atlanta’s demands in a Murray swap. The Hawks are said to be seeking two future firsts and team-friendly contracts in return. But there are still nearly three weeks to go for someone to make that sort of offer,”
Most Murray rumors suggest this. If true it’s a fair offer to me. Not many teams can meet it though. Imo Hawks probably want more from Knicks. I’d give them 3 picks.
But then I’d say three picks can get us DeM and Drummond easily …..
imo Murray is Thibs first choice…..
Murray in Philly would be major. But they can’t pull it off. What they can pull off is Fultz. Fultz and Maxey backcourt is the way to go. I think it makes them dangerous. Much better.
Allen is a true center. Solid both ways. He’d be a great addition in NO.
Mitch Robinson is from NO. He’s probably a better fit. Cause he doesn’t need the ball to score. They should be looking at him.
Fultz? Why would the Sixers want him. They dumped him on the Magic. Major flop. They passed on Jayson Tatum to draft Fultz.
Sixers should stand pat, I rather get somebody like a Bojan Bogdanovic or a Gordon Hayward. But i suspect that Hayward will be available in the buyout market if he doesn’t get traded.
Excellent take. Jojo needs shot makers around him. Murray doesn’t help them.
They couldn’t sign Hayward if he was released because on the new rules. They can only trade for him. Harris for Hayward would work, but why would you want a guy that has been injured every year for the last 5 years.
I’d love Murray on the Sixers, I think he would actually be a really solid fit with Maxey in the backcourt.
Maxey played with Harden who is very ball dominant and at times a poor defender. Murray isn’t nearly as ball dominant, and is a former all defensive second team player. Murray himself is putting up 21-5-5 while having to share the ball with Trae Young. So I think between the two of them they would be able to share the touches make it work.
As for the trade and the asking price, the lakers offered Russell, JHS, a 2029 first and extra draft compensation (but don’t have any more first round picks to offer). That offer seems as if it’s on hold until the deadline and ATL is waiting to see if anything better comes in. Considering Russell’s contract isn’t even expiring and JHS has looked poor as a rookie so far it’s really not a hard offer to beat.
We could offer Robert Covington, Paul Reed, a first round pick and extra draft compensation ourselves. RoCo is an expiring deal unlikes Russell’s, Reed although older has looked a lot better than JHS and we can match them if not offer more in terms of picks.
Overall I think we can beat the lakers offer and should if that’s what’s going to be taken but if that’s all they get offered if I’m the Hawks I say no thanks and hold onto him. Murray is a solid player and should net you a better return
Why would the Hawks move Okongwu? Capela is who they should move.
Buy or sale?
Sale Teams like young players.
Cause Jalen Johnson is who they value and he’s on a cheaper contract.

Just found this … don’t like it
Are Miami giving up Herro, Jaquez jr, Jovic and picks? Realistically that’s probably what it will take. Atlanta do have a $23 million dallar trade exemption.
Bruce for Wendal Carter Jr and Okeke/Bruce for Olynyx and Agbaji or Bruce for Capella & Okongwu.
I like Murray for the Sixers. Maxey’s shooting percentage is down significantly as a 1 (he’s also playing too many minutes). Melton is a good, young 2 that fits right in. Springer is an 18 yo 1st round pick that’s close to being ready. Both offer very good defense also. Atlanta should take a shot with Korkmaz. Rivers tried making him a 1 last year and it really screwed him up. He was a 1st round pick”steal” as a 2. I would play him at the 3.
It’s always sexy for social or mainstream media to link every all star level type talent to lakers, Miami, Philly, NY. Those teams don’t have enough to realistically get Dejounte, Atlanta aren’t just giving him away.
Utah could include Clarkson and a crazy amount of picks that Utah wouldn’t even miss. The pacers could keep swinging for the fences and include a couple first rounders, Buddy and a young talent like Wallace or Mathurin.
I think Trae is going to be the one traded not Murray. Utah is the X factor in trades. Also OKC could outbid for Murray too. Nobody mentioned OKC in trades.
OKC is good enough to contend. I would not be surprised to see them make a move. They are 2nd in the West and are deep, but need to add size.
They could, don’t think OKC want Murray though. Jazz would love Murray @ the point. Pacers could have 3 guys who’ve been all stars before. Low maintenance ballers, not big head attention seeking stat chasing clowns. If Indiana want to keep climbing they need better talent. Fully commit not half. DM’s contract is pretty team friendly going forward in my opinion.
I don’t see OKC giving up Dort for Murray. Dort is their best defender and with his size he can guard 1-4. Murray would not be able to do that, he likely will need the ball too but SGA and Williams handle with Giddey.
Don’t think ATL wants Bertans, Kenrich and picks.
