9:34pm: The Lakers are optimistic that Wood’s injury is relatively minor and that he won’t miss more than a couple weeks, a source tells Dave McMenamin of ESPN (Twitter link).
7:15pm: Lakers backup big man Christian Wood has been diagnosed with swelling in his left knee and will be reevaluated in about two weeks, tweets Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Wood has appeared in 50 of the team’s first 56 games and was able to play 16 minutes last Wednesday in L.A.’s final game before the All-Star break. He’s averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per night in his first season with the Lakers.
The team is listing LeBron James as out for Thursday’s game with Golden State due to the peroneal tendinopathy in his left ankle that has been affecting him for a while. He also missed last Wednesday’s contest and sat out the second half of Sunday’s All-Star Game.
James has been receiving treatment on the ankle this week, but it hasn’t responded well enough for him to take the court. Thursday will mark the eighth game he has missed this season, and it comes at a crucial time as the Warriors are just a game-and-a-half behind L.A. in the Western Conference play-in race.
I certainly hope haters don’t get on LeBron about playing in the All-Star game yet missing the regular season game last week and sitting out tomorrow.
I think he did the right thing by getting out there on All Star weekend for the first half. There’s a huge responsibility to the fans and to the NBA in general to make a showing. It’s basically jogging anyway. Kudos to him. If anyone disagrees they are wrong.
He wasn’t healthy enough to play the game before or after the All-Star Game, but still played in the All-Star Game????
Let us not hear anything else about LeBron being serious about the Lakers as a title contender. Just wrong on 100 different levels. 27 games left in the season, and the Lakers are holding on as a Play-In team. But LeBron is skipping regular season games, and still playing in the All-Star game. Crazy times we are living in!!!
All this “Load Management” in the NBA. LeBron started the season on limited minutes which lasted all of 1 game. You know. Save his body. LeBron has missed many games with injuries, back-to-back’s and rest. You know. Save his body. So, “save your body” doesn’t apply to playing in the all-star game???
LeBron is only going through the motions. Waiting to play with Bronny on the Lakers next year. He knows the Lakers are not a title contender, and not even likely to get out of the play-in round.
Bronny will be in the draft. Rich Paul will ensure he ends up with the Lakers. His bad play with USC makes it easy for the Lakers. Trayce Jackson-Davis agent called teams this past draft once he didn’t go in 1st round. Said don’t draft him …. We have a situation for him that is guaranteed. He then fell all the way to the end of the 2nd round and Golden State. His agent is the brother of new Golden State boss. Bronny will be a Laker. LeBron is just waiting to play with his kid, and to do it in a Laker jersey. He will retire after next year. Nothing else left to play for unless he try’s to hang around for Bryce.
LeBron has spent his career literally playing every game, and going all out all of the time. He is done with that now. Lakers ain’t no contender. Last thing he wants to accomplish is to play with Bronny in a Laker jersey, and pretend to contend with his son.
LeBron will retire after playing with Bronny next year, and then focus ALL of his attention on becoming majority owner of the new Las Vegas franchise (sorry Seattle).
He is gonna pull out ALL stops to get it done.
Funny thing is …. If he gets the Las Vegas franchise … His ownership group will absolutely be buying the very top of the market. These franchise have these crazy valuations because the media rights are being overpaid for. The end of the cable television model over the next 5 to 10 years is going to massively dent that. You can’t replicate the way the cable model delivers revenue. Streaming don’t do it! Valuations of these franchises will begin to drop after the next round of media rights deals are signed. All these leagues literally racing to get the ink dry on new deals.
My only issue is why was he dunking like crazy and showing off??
I love the confidence in “if anyone disagrees they are wrong” lol but also I do agree with you
Yes, his allegiance should lie with the NBA’s sham/joke called the All Star Game instead on trying to make the playoffs. You’re so high.
They All-Star game is about the fans. I believe he did the right thing by showing up, dressing out, and playing the first half.
I don’t think it’s too much for his body to go through that. Some guys might not have done it for the fear of looking bad and the criticism like you guys are giving him here. But he did it anyway. I’m giving him kudos for it.
It’s pointless trying to have a real convo in a lakers thread Gary
Appreciate the effort tho
Wood is MLE guy or Vet Min guy?
Swelling and he rarely gets playing time?
No.2 for Luka to bench warmer on the lakers, ouch.
Wood seems to be in the marbury mold of talented but ultimately faring better overseas
Not close to Marbury.
No for sure, Marbury was far more talented but both had issues w their attitudes/egos that overshadowed their respective talents
LeBron should be fined for sitting out games(plus no defense, no dribbling, crying, flopping, etc etc etc etc etc etc) Silver do your job and fine him for skipping work.
That right there what made him the GOAT. Lighten up haha
Goat to the new age lazy generation of manchilds, yeah he fits right in. He isn’t even as good as Magic Johnson now looking at their careers
LeBron is 40 F years old give him a damn break anyone here judging him about work ethic is wrong … Btw Dubs fans should remember last year PO when LeBron was whooping their A$$
Laker fans now reduced to celebrating Play-In round wins????
Crazy Times We Are Living In!!!
Been acting and treated like a protected species long before this season pal.
James wasn’t even the best player on his team. Davis was the difference maker in that series.
And we all know Lakers got swept the next round lol. James’ 3rd time getting swept.
Now that was a real whooping. Even Suns managed to win 2 games against the Nuggets.
Cannot play all 82 games then get fined. Real injuries are understandable. Tired of LeBron faking injuries his whole career to rest so he can pad his stats and call himself the best ever. What a joke Silvers NBA is. Every player ever had pride to play all 82 before LeBron showed up.
