While there will likely be plenty of trades completed between now and next Thursday’s deadline, many of the players whom rival teams had hoped would hit the market aren’t expected to be available this season, writes Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
As Fischer details, that list of players who are believed to be off-limits includes several current and former All-Stars, such as Lauri Markkanen, Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen, and Karl-Anthony Towns. It also features talented forwards Mikal Bridges and Jerami Grant, as well as rising talent Jonathan Kuminga.
Fischer isn’t the first to report that those players likely won’t be on the move at the deadline, so no names in that group come as real surprises. However, Fischer adds a few more players to the list of unlikely trade candidates, writing that Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. is no longer considered available and citing league personnel who are skeptical that the Trail Blazers will part with Malcolm Brogdon.
Additionally, while a handful of clubs – including the Bucks and Lakers – have called the Grizzlies to inquire about Marcus Smart, according to Fischer, Memphis has shown no interest in moving the veteran guard, who remains in the team’s plans beyond this season.
Here are a few more trade-related notes and rumors from Fischer:
- The Hawks are viewed by rival executives as the most “active and aggressive” team in the trade market, with Dejounte Murray, Clint Capela, De’Andre Hunter, and AJ Griffin among the players who could be moved. While previous reports have indicated that Trae Young and Jalen Johnson are Atlanta’s only two untouchable players, Fischer says the club values Bogdan Bogdanovic as highly as any player on its roster outside of Young and Johnson.
- Even though the Wizards are seeking a first-round pick for Tyus Jones, rival executives are confident that Washington will ultimately accept a package consisting of multiple second-rounders for the veteran point guard, per Fischer. Jones is on an expiring contract and wouldn’t be a starter on many teams, so a first-rounder would be a high price to pay.
- Hornets forward P.J. Washington and center Nick Richards are generating a good deal of interest from potential trade partners, league sources tell Fischer. Kyle Lowry, Gordon Hayward, and Miles Bridges are among Charlotte’s other trade candidates.
- We also passed along several of Fischer’s trade rumors related to Western Conference teams in a separate article.
Bruce Brown for PJ Washington and Nic Richards.
That would be amazing but i dont see Charlotte does that deal without another deal dor more assets
OKC or jazz may help…
Why would Charlotte make this deal?
They won’t even sniff the play-in tournament this year, and paying BB $23M as a still non-contending team next year makes absolutely zero sense.
They will have to pay Miller soon. They actually want out from PJ’s contract. Bruce has a team option for next year, so why wouldn’t they make the deal? All teams are trying to save money and Hornets are a cheap ryn franchise.
Memphis just needs to find a SF and C the same age as Morant Jackson and Bane. Trade Smart, Victor O, GG Jackson, Zhaire Williams and Luke Kennard with picks for some of these.
Example. Keldon Johnson, Ayton and Thybulle, Claxton, Wendell Carter, Miles Bridges and PJ Washington, Gafford and Tyus Jones, DeAndre Hunter and OO.
Memphis should look at these guy
I agree with DeAndre Hunter should be moved, however he’s been a letdown being drafted at 4. I could see Memphis going for a SF similar to Jae’Sean Tate who has a $7M team option next year.
Raps could use GG Jackson. Bruce for Kennard and GG with Rody and a pick.
Raptors trade Dennis S to 76s for Marcus Morris and two 2nds. Raptors waive Marcus Morris and Porter jr. Then Toronto trades Jacob and a 2nd to Brooklyn for Spencer D and waives Spencer D. Raptors promote Jontay Porter
Memphis trades Kennard, Zhaire Williams and two 2nds to San Antonio and GG Jackson to Toronto.
Raptors trade Bruce Brown and Temple to NY.
Knicks trade Evan Fournier, Ryan A and picks to Detroit.
Detroit trades Monte Morris to Memphis and Wiseman to Toronto.
San Antonio trades Keldon Johnson to Memphis and Bassey to Toronto
No
Raptors get GG Jackson, Wiseman, Bassey, picks and salary relief… No ok
That deal is fine…
Nope. Maybe Kennard and ZW for Bruce. But not for Kennard and what I’d say is essentially 3 1st or 2 1st and a 2nd depending on what you mean by “a pick”. GG is playing like a 1st and would’ve easily been one in this upcoming draft if he was smart and stayed in college, and Roddy just recently was one.
Just say your afraid for raptors to acquire certain players.
It was a garbage trade offer.
And it is “you’re” or “you are”
I think that Orlando can lure Toronto to trade for Bruce Brown without include Wendell in the trade, perhaps Gary Harris,Chuma Okeke and few draft picks or with a third team included. I would love to have Bruce Brown in Orlando but at this moment I think Wendell is more valuable than Brown because of his contract and what he brings to the team. Goga Bitadze will be free agent at the end of the season maybe a trade including Goga Bitadze will be enough to get Bruce Brown.
I’d take Okeke for sure. Raps could use him.
Vince Williams is showing he can be their wing for the future. David Roddy and Ziaire Williams are still young, I wouldn’t give up on them yet. Smart can help also in some matchups.
Grizzlies biggest need is center. If they want to be true contenders, they need better center than Steven Adams. Todays trade shows they realise that. I suppose they will target center in the draft. Kyle Filipowski or Yves Missi would be very good solutions.
Also they can trade for starting center in the summer, until the rookies become ready. Grizzlies can offer Brandon Clarke, John Konchar and 2025 pick. Something like that would probably be enough to get Capela, Vucevic, Isaiah Stewart, Wendell Carter or Robert Williams.
I agree they need help at C which has been evident every time Adams misses time. I can’t see MEM trading for Capela who is a little bump better than Adams defensively, but pretty darn close everywhere else. That’d be giving up Adams, Clarke, Konchar, & a 1st for Capela and 3 2nds. Just don’t see it especially when Capela cost almost twice as much like $22M next year when Adams was like $12M. Vuc I see as similar to the guy they traded away to get Adams in JVal. Both are good offensively and I’d give the edge to Vuc there, but neither provide much defensively. Again the salaries would factor in as well in that case where JVal is about $6M cheaper and younger. Plus JVal puts his numbers up with like 6-7 less minutes which I never understood why he has consistently only avg around 26-27 mpg. Nevertheless, just can’t see them reverting back to a more offensive over defensive center, even though I didn’t like the NOLA trade to begin with. Stewart does expand the floor more, is a bit better on offense, and is younger than XT; but they’re similar otherwise and again XT is cheaper and will probably sign for less too since both are FAs after this year I believe. He could be a cheaper option than everyone else you mentioned though, but just depends on how much DET likes him with all the money they have. I like WCJr and he would be my 1st pick probably. Pass on Mr Glass Robert Williams though.
Where’s the Atlanta Homer …..?????
needs to read this. Why whole team will be traded lols ……. haha
“ The Hawks are viewed by rival executives as the most “active and aggressive” team in the trade market, with Dejounte Murray, Clint Capela, De’Andre Hunter, and AJ Griffin among the players who could be moved. Hawks have no plan. Pathetic how they have fallen.
Incorrect. They have a plan apparently, it just sucks.
Their plan is to continue to hold on to Trae and build around him. They have now also fallen in love with Bey, despite his horrendous shooting efficiency (the only regular on the team with a lower efficiency than Trae). Apparently the Hawks plan is build around their two least efficient offensive talents, one of whom can’t play a lick of defense. DeAndre Hunter is their next least efficient shooter and they extended him already.
Myself, I hate this plan. I think they should build around everyone but Trae and let Bey walk (he isn’t worth what he will get paid).
They have wasted Trae’s time. No plan.
No they have been just throwing pieces together the last three years and seeing if it sticks. They were on a good plan drafting but then started spending all their money on random people and trading away their players. They tried to turn Murray who is a PG his whole career and turn him into a SG. Waisting Young’s time. They can still fix it but need to be careful. Let’s trade Dominique Wilkins and a future 1st for a half a year of Danny Manning lol. They have had no plan.
Brogdon provides better value to POR if he’s kept. I don’t see any way any team gives up a FRP for his contract, but when he’s healthy, he’s a plus. Jones and Brown are more nuanced, but I could see both staying put since I doubt (absent an injury) either will yield a FRP. Rentals almost never do, unless there’s something more in play. Yes, Brown as a team option, but it’s well in excess of his market value.
Lakers like Marcus Smart
DLo for Smart/filler
Lakers have 2029 First to offer.
Hawks/Knicks trade thought:
Knicks get Murray, Okongwu, Griffin
ATL takes home Robinson, Grimes, Fournier and both 2024 1RPs. NYK future 1RPs from WAS and DET are SEMI-negotiable.
Hawks get to pair Trey with a talented young 3 n D wing in Grimes and lob threat Mitchy who is an instant upgrade on D and Rebounding: 2 good pieces to build around Trey. Fournier might give them minutes on the wing but really just salary filler and veteran voice. Picks obviously there to build with. Knicks get their starting 2 guard, although The Big Ragu is killing it right now, so I’m not sure I want to mess with that chemistry. If Murray comes off the bench then you have the best backup PG in the league with instant offense to get back what you lost from IQ, plus some. You know Thibs will get that All-NBA defense out of him. Okongwu slots in to replace Randle for the time being and is a former lottery pick, untapped potential no doubt- however, Precious is playing better than anyone expected so maybe that’s chemistry you don’t mess with either. Griffin is good depth and someone to develop. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Milwaukee is a good place for Smart. That would be a Smart move ……. had to.
Spurs could use Brogdon. He can hold it down till new PG is ready. Draft ????
Not possible unless they trade Portis and Pat. This trade cannot work financially. Spurs don’t need Brogdon either. This is like your take the other day saying Killian Hayes doesn’t get any playing time and could develop to be great lol
Bruce Brown for Davis Bertans, Jaylin Williams and a protected first
Toronto gets back a first which is their asking price and they get back a good young player but have to take back Bertans contract.
OKC look to build on their great regular season with an upgrade to the roster for a playoff run. Bruce showed last season that he’s a difference maker in the playoffs and he will be huge for OKC which have plenty of picks to give away.
Tyus Jones for Daivon Mitchell, JaVale McGee and 2 second round picks
Kings get Jones who would be a very good back up for DeAaron Fox and I think would work really well under coach Brown. Both Mitchell and McGee are out of the rotation anyway so it would be a good upgrade and also create an opening on the roster for a potential buy out or free agent.
Wizards get back draft capital and a young guard. It would be interesting to see how Daivon goes in bigger minutes playing with very ball dominant offensive minded players. Think that would allow him to just focus on his defence more and play better basketball. McGee returning back to Washington were it all started for him would be a good ending for him.
Pantherseye87 said this before too
I’ve mentioned this very same trade.
