The Hawks and Pelicans have halted talks regarding Dejounte Murray because the teams weren’t making progress and had little hope of completing a deal by this afternoon’s deadline, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and TNT (Twitter link). Numerous reports stated that Atlanta and New Orleans were discussing Murray, but there was never an indication of any traction.
Talks may have been complicated by a 15% trade kicker in Murray’s contract that he was unlikely to waive to help facilitate a deal, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The Hawks are hoping to get two first-round picks in return for Murray, but the teams with rumored interest haven’t been willing to offer more than one, Scotto adds. In addition to New Orleans, the Lakers, Knicks and Nets were among the prominent teams with interest in the former All-Star guard.
Scotto states that it’s looking increasingly likely that Atlanta will hold onto Murray through the rest of the season and revisit trade talks this summer in hopes of getting better offers.
they keep posting the same team that want him when those same teams don’t have the assets or willing to give up good assets to get him.
Because things can change and surprises from a desperation play can always happen. It’s Hoops Rumors, not Hoops Obvious Facts xD
Or he’s just not worth what y’all gave up for him sorry.
Next in line: The Bucks, Lakers, Pistons, Rockets.
how about this, 4 team deal:
HAWKS: C Jonas Valanciunas, PF Hebert Jones, PG Alex Caruso, PG Dyson Daniels. 2024 Lakers 1st owned by NOR, 2026 1st owned by NOR, 2024 2nd owned by LAL.
Pelicans: PG Dejounte Murray, C Onyeka Okongwu
Bulls: PG Gabe Vincent, SF Trey Murphy III, 2024 1st owned by ATL, 2025 Clippers 2nd owned by LAL, 2025 2nd owned by LAL, 2027 2nd owned by LAL, 2028 Rockets 2nd owned by ATL
Lakers: C Andre Drummond, SF Torey Craig
thoughts?
Hawks MASSIVELY improve the defense
Pelicans get more scorers
Bulls trade some low cost vets and in return get lots of draft capital and a nice player in Murphy
Lakers get the big man they desire and a good bench piece in Craig
Trey Murphy is the best player in this deal, why would NOP trade him for Murray while hanging on for CJ?
You have the Pelicans giving up Valanciunas, Herb Jones, Dyson Daniels AND Trey Murphy III plus two firsts for Murray and Okongwu? Have you lost your mind? Maybe Val, Naji Marshall, Dyson Daniels and a first. Lol. There is zero chance they’d throw Herb Jones or Trey Murphy into the deal, let alone both of them along with Val, Daniels, AND two firsts.
How do hawks improve their defense if they ship out murray but keep Trey Young?
Orlando trades Fultz, Garry Harris and Carter Jr for CJ M, Jonas V, Liddel and a 2nd
I’m surprised that no team believes Dejounte isn’t worth two 1sts. I know his value has dropped a bit since moving to Atlanta, but he’s still a 21,5,5 guy who is generally a very good multi-positional defender. The Knicks for example have the perfect asset package right now with an expiring deal (Fournier) a young player (Grimes), and multiple 1sts (2024 Dallas and one of the Pistons or Wizards multi-year protected picks).
Murray would be perfect beside Brunson, and with him, Hart and OG in tow, the perimeter defence would be playoff ready.
The Knicks have got to take advantage of Fournier’s expiring deal, so unless they believe Bruce Brown is the fit today and only giving up one 1st gives them a better chance of landing a Superstar in the offseason, I don’t know why Murray isn’t a good move.
It’s more fit than ability. His 3pt shooting looks fluky, his defense has regressed, and he’s become, if anything, more ball dominant. Teams have legit concerns of if he’ll take them over the top.
Hawks are a goofy ball club. Watch Trae ask out because their weak GM fails to improve the team.
