The Hawks won’t be trading Dejounte Murray before the deadline, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
A former All-Star guard, Murray has been one of the most accomplished players featured in trade rumors over the past several weeks. Atlanta was reportedly seeking two first-round picks and a quality player in return for the 27-year-old, and it appears no rival team was willing — or perhaps able — to meet that asking price, at least at this time.
Murray signed a four-year, $114MM+ contract extension last offseason, so the Hawks certainly didn’t need to move him. It’s possible they’ll revisit the idea in the future, but he’s staying put for now.
Atlanta doing Atlanta things…
At this point, you know the ownership is incompetent.
I’m convinced Landry connived and backstabbed Travis Schlenk to get the GM job in Atlanta. He needs to be fired. He is running the Hawks into the ground. Terrible trades, terrible extensions, terrible drafting. Gotten worse every year he’s been in charge.
If there was nothing out there worth trading Murray for then why trade him? His trade value is going down extension was actually a very good extension.
He made the decision to trade for DJ, made the decision to trade Huerter, held on to JC way too long and got zero return, made the decision to extend Deandre Hunter and Okongwu. Drafted AJ and the bum from Michigan this year. What good is the trade exception you got for Collins if you don’t use it? Worst GM ever.
Not trading DJ should not be a mark against Schlenk. If the offers weren’t in line with the value, then don’t do it. Yes, the Hawks might have overpaid for him a little, but that’s what teams trying to win do sometimes. The real problems behind this are the CBA changes and the fact a few teams are hoarding picks, which really screwed things up for the Hawks.
The rest of your points are hard to argue against. The real problem here is that the Hawks had tunnel vision on Murray.. They had 4-5 guys they could have traded and they did ZILCH.
Lakers, Lakers, Lakers
Lakers have a pick and swaps
Lakers do nothing
What do A pick and 2 Swaps mean to Lakers today?
Thought for sure he was gone. I still believe Lakers will go after him. Next yr now.
What were people expecting? He is not elite. Probably could get 2 firsts OR an impact player, but not both.
If I’m the hawks I trade young and keep Murray. They clearly can’t coexist and young will get them more stuff. Trae to spurs for vassell and their own picks back .
Trade Young for Luka Doncic?
Not a shock after the reports for past 2-3 weeks. It was a good asking price, IMO, but for some reason it still didn’t generate enough bids to get a market going. I guess it’s hard to bite on a PG at the deadline. It’s not a position most teams want to reset mid-year.
Poor Lakers. Onto 12 months worth of Donovan Mitchell to the lake show for hillbilly Mumba and D-Lo. Sigh
Best thing Atlanta could have done is to keep him. He’s a star, and they would have gotten trash in return.
