5:08pm: Highsmith struck a person who was helping a driver whose car was stuck in the middle of the road, Jackson states in a full story, citing a report by Miami radio reporter Andy Slater. The victim had his leg partially amputated and is listed in critical condition, according to Slater. Highsmith wasn’t arrested and is expected to return to the team soon, Jackson adds.
4:50pm: Haywood Highsmith will miss tonight’s game after being involved in an auto accident after Tuesday’s contest, the Heat announced in a press release.
“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game,” a statement from the team reads. “Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons. Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Highsmith didn’t suffer any significant injuries in the crash, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald (Twitter link). No details have been released about the extent of injuries to anyone else involved, but Jackson states that no one was killed.
The 27-year-old combo forward has seen his role shift frequently throughout his third season in Miami. He has started 24 of the 37 games he has appeared in, but his playing time has declined recently as the roster has gotten healthier. Highsmith was on the court for just three minutes in Tuesday’s blowout win over Orlando.
Dude’s gotta be more vigilant like damn…
Fill us in on the accident details officer pantherseye.
You just worship celebrities. All I said was be vigilant, never said he should be charged.
I don’t worship anyone lol
Accidents are called accidents for a reason……just a dumb comment
So everyone who drives shouldn’t be vigilant??? Aren’t drivers supposed to anticipate and avoid hitting persons??? It’s dumb to make excuses as an adult when many incidents can be avoided. You were raised to have an excuse an never told to man tf up. How fitting. Let me guess you would hit someone and drive off like a coward, which is also dumb.
Without any details it’s hard to judge any culpability of the driver…..it’s night time , dark out……you nor I have any info about the stretch of road or anything regarding what happened.
You can be vigilant and still be an accident…..so dumb to jump to any conclusions at all
Accidents are usually preventable right? like maybe, paying more attention to cars stopped in the middle of the road?
Adults should be vigilant period and if they didn’t learn how to be self aware that’s a problem they need to solve.
Well he hit a guy who had his leg amputated and is in critical condition, so I guess you can say it’s pretty serious
Indeed. I guess he can just pay the guy and move on…
Lol pay the guy for what? Cause he didn’t have night vision goggles ? Didn’t release road flares to illuminate the area prior to driving through?
If you can’t see anything on a road but you’re still driving the same full speed as normal then that’s still bad driving on your part. Can’t see? Slow down.
I had a friend killed when she jumped out of her car at an accident scene to try to help.
The roads were so icy the guy behind her had no time to react when she jumped out in front of him. He has to live with that the rest of his life and her family and friends have to live without her. I loved her dearly but she messed up. The most important person at an accident scene is you. You can’t help anyone if you are injured or dead. You’re only making things worse. Don’t rush to blame the driver….he very easily could be at no fault. Always take 5….look around and make sure it’s safe to jump in and help. None of us no what happened ot who could be at blame. There’s really no such thing as an unpreventable accident.
Maybe my thought process is different but since I was 12 years old I couldn’t have excuses. The phrase “I don’t know” was erased from my vocabulary. Now a grown man with my own family and almost 40…I definitely Do Not make excuses. As I mentioned earlier I did not say Highsmith deserves to be charged, all I said was vigilance. Yes everyone is responsible for their own safety. I’m truly sorry for the loss of your friend.
You should add it back….because you don’t know shut about the details of the accident and yet you’re trying to preach to everyone else. Lame
Dude was cited for careless and negligent driving. There goes his paycheck with the inevitable lawsuit incoming….
