Lakers two-way center Colin Castleton has been diagnosed with a right wrist fracture, the team announced on Sunday. He will be reevaluated in approximately two weeks, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin relays (Twitter link).
Castleton, who has made seven cameo appearances in the NBA this season, signed his two-way deal in July after going undrafted out of Florida. He has spent most of the season with the G League South Bay Lakers.
We have more on the Lakers:
- The Lakers lost to Phoenix 123-113 on Sunday after falling behind 45-27 in the first quarter. LeBron James lamented the early defensive lapses, according to Khobi Price of the Orange County Register. “Super slow start for us, offensively and defensively,” James said. “You give a team 45 points in a quarter, that’s always going to be a problem. Especially if you aren’t scoring 45 as well.”
- Another issue for the Lakers on Sunday, Price writes, was rebounding. Suns center Jusuf Nurkic had 18 points and 22 rebounds, including seven at the offensive end. “He’s a big body. That’s his role on the team: go out and rebound, get them extra possessions. They did a good job with it,” Anthony Davis said.
- Sunday’s contest began a stretch in which the Lakers face eight Western Conference contenders in a 10-game span. Coach Darvin Ham stresses the fundamentals in these showdowns, Price writes in a separate story. “We’ve got a bunch of weapons, but they’re useless if we don’t do the little things – sprinting hard when we get the ball in transition, not turning it over, maintaining spacing, making sure we get hits on screens to create an advantage and making the simple, easy play,” he said. “To put it in detail, that’s what I’m talking about.”
- James’ gimpy ankle has held up so far since the All-Star break. He arrived late for All-Star weekend to get treatment and received more work on the ankle before the club returned to action. “It wasn’t something that we just came up with out of the blue,” James told Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times and other media members. “We had already clocked this months ago, knowing the schedule.”
Not convinced the Lakers are gonna be able to hold off the Jazz and Rockets for that final Play-In slot. Play-In status would be major achievements for both the Jazz and Rockets and they are gonna go hard for it. We will see how focused the Lakers remain after another losing stretch on the road.
I think the 10 spots in both conferences are pretty much settled barring a major injury. Utah, Houston, Brooklyn and Toronto haven’t been playing all that great and there’s not that many games left. Seeding however for 2-8 in the East and 1-10 in the West is still tight.
Nothing would make me happier. However, Adam Silver got Lakers back. The free throw disparity against Phoenix really warmed my heart though.
Suns had the game in hand early. Otherwise, you’d see the standard Lakers 36 FTA, Opponents 9 FTA.
Lakers 2 Achilles heals are rebounding and defending the perimeter – Go a little hand in hand as AD too often has to help the perimeter defenders which opens up the glass
Showed in spades today and Nurk killed them
They don’t have another plus rebounder on the team , Rui who I love is meh , prince is allergic , Lebrons not pounding the glass 85% of games , Hayes can’t stay on the ground as he Ives and ( mostly ) dies with his pogo stick , and Ham has a beef w Wood who I’ve felt has been pretty good this year when given the chance , especially on the boards
I don’t know how to solve it as they will probably have 1 5 mill tpmle to use and 2 vet mins next year only at their disposal – going to need full healt and , some internal growths from guys like Vincent Vando Rui and Christie to have a shot next year
Are the Lakers targeting championship? Do you think Lakers are a failure at the trade deadline?
Championship… idk , I’d hope not as of today or even 2 weeks ago
I’d hope progression is the goal and they use this year as a learning tool to what they have and don’t have I.e Reaves is awesome but he can’t run point and probably,no scratch that, NEEDS to be paired w a defensive mate in the backcourt
* I loved their Trade deadline , only thing ida done better perhaps is Trade off a vet min or 2 into another teams exceptions with a couple 2nds to get outta the repeater tax – They came with in 2 mil of clearing that line and presumably coulda gotten under with out giving up too much capital
They aren’t a championship level team having watched almost every minute of them this year.
Yeah, the rigged season tournament. Mission accomplished.
Listen to Laker fans and they’ll tell you they already won the (in-season) championship. *laughs hysterically*
It’s starting to feel like the Lakers are approaching the rest of the season with a “let’s hope we get hot at the right time” mentality. The intensity doesn’t seem to be there.
Stop complaining about the refs and play defense? Since Dr. Jerry, this team has been so unlikable.
The western conference is stacked. The top 4 teams all could go all the way if they are healthy. The next 6 teams all could get into the second round but i doubt they go any further. LeBron doesn’t understand that this is not the east where a average team can get into the finals. The other 6 teams are just average teams. Without injuries T-wolves and Nuggets are in the conference finals.
