Executives around the NBA believe the Rockets are willing to include former No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green in a trade package for a marquee wing, according to reports from Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports and Marc Stein at Substack.
Both reporters mention Mikal Bridges as a top target for the Rockets, with Stein citing a belief around the league that Houston has been open to parting with Green and “an array of first-round picks” in exchange for the Nets forward. However, Brooklyn continues to resist inquiries for Bridges, so those talks didn’t gain any traction, according to Fischer.
When the Rockets conducted head coaching interviews last spring, they asked their candidates their thoughts on which of the team’s younger players the front office should consider including in a deal for a star, league sources tell Fischer. Houston’s group of youngsters includes Green, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith, Tari Eason, Amen Thompson, and Cam Whitmore.
Fischer’s report doesn’t state that head coach Ime Udoka identified Green as a potential trade chip, but the 21-year-old is the young Rocket whose name has popped up most often in trade rumors as of late.
Here’s more on the Rockets:
- While many rival front offices have viewed the Rockets’ willingness to discuss Green as a signal that they’re looking to accelerate their rebuilding process and push for a postseason spot, their acquisition of Steven Adams – who is out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury – suggests they have more patience than advertised, Fischer writes. As Fischer observes, it’s more accurate to classify Houston as “eager to be opportunistic” rather than determined to make a second-half push.
- The Rockets – like the Knicks and some other teams – were prepared to be players for the next star player that became available this season, sources tell Yahoo Sports, but no player of that magnitude is currently on the market.
- While Houston remains a team to watch ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, a significant deal appears more likely to occur in the offseason than this week, says Fischer.
I like the idea of trading Green for Bridges
But
When you target unavailable players, you need to make overpaid offers.
Would be nice, but I doubt the Nets trade their best player. Bridges defends and can score.
thankfully Brooklyn doesn’t
Only 3 teams need Jalen Green (talent).
Hornets
Wizards
Pistons
Lakers, Clippers, Knicks and Celtics don’t need Green
Field goal % is the most important thing in basketball
Rockets would make playoffs IF
Jalen Green shoots league average
FG 47%
3 FG 37%
Now at
42%
32%
LOL. Wow, they’re willing to part with Green for a marquee player. Now they just to find a team dumb enough to part with a marquee player for Green.
Unlikely, to say the least. But what they might find is a FO run by AAU BBs that’s willing to give up a real asset(s) for Green. If so, they should move on it. It won’t trigger a second half surge, but that’s likely not in the cards regardless.
Haha! Lady you clearly don’t watch/understand basketball
Oh good, I wondering what a low IQ HOU homer might think; now I know.
Bridges is not a marquee player.
If Rockets want to trade Green for Luka Doncic, Doncic is a marquee player.
Can’t let a guy that inefficient be the main shot taker. Unless he has some massive shift in his game, he’s just a chucker.
Is there a team with a marquee wing that’s ready to mini rebuild or has excess?
Maybe Brandon Ingram. Or if the Clippers thought PG13 wasn’t going to resign…? Maybe the Cavs want to get a package for Spider? Maybe Boston says enough with Brown and Tatum if they don’t win this year?
To me, I don’t value Green that highly.
The Pelicans are more in a win now mode than the Rockets, by a lot actually.
Pelicans are not bad enough but not good enough. I don’t see Zion going anywhere unless he forced a trade. They already thought about moving BI for Scoot. They already have 2 FRPs in this year’s draft. If the Rockets offered Jalen Green, Jeff Green, Landale, and Brooklyn’s FRP they might be enticed.
They take Matas Buzelis, Isaiah Collier, and Zach Edey in the draft and roll with Jalen Green at the 2 guard.
Ingram has issues staying healthy, which doesn’t pair well with Zion. And the Rockets likely won’t get a better wing with that package.
Only thing I’d argue back is Dyson Daniel’s, Jalen Green and guys you’ve put like Collier etc all are poor shooters and when your building around Zion who needs spacing that’s going to end in a disaster.
Brandon Ingram although not perfect could definitely get you a much better return.
I’d be more inclined to see Ingram and 2 first for another star like Trae Young or something like that. Get rid of CJ and open up the wings for young guys like Hawkins, Murphy and Herb.
Idk,
Green, Whitmore, Eason, Thompson, and some picks for Bridges would be hard to pass up from Nets standpoint.
It would be hard to pass up and they wouldn’t pass that up lol the rockets wouldn’t even consider an offer like that.
Ah yes the “trade us your best player for our scraps” mindset. Typical.
The last thing the Hornets need is another guy who doesn’t play defense. Ditto for the Wizards. Pistons are probably the better bet.
I doubt Rockets do anything now. I do not whom might be available in off season. But think might be quiet trade deadline. I thought might to get rid of Landale and Bullock. Maybe even Tate and might not have Uncle Jeff next season. I thought with some things so glaring might get help now and perhaps make a push for a possible play in spot. But we shall see.
Whitmore, Amen, Brooks FVV and Sengun untouchable. I wonder with Jalen and Jabari possibly going to next season. Tari would love to see soon. With being out so long might take time to rebuild him up
Jalen Green has big time talent. Udoka has ego issues.
Nets will never trade Bridges…….
So many teams afraid to make a trade to potentially improve. Way too many nonchalant GM’s who need to be fired. Where’s the competitive prowess that once was???
Dead and buried. Frightened for sure. In a league with a shallow talent base, drafts that direct most of that talent to a few tanking teams, and essentially no free agency for impact talent, it’s no wonder they’re frightened of trades of any significant player. They don’t want to make a bad trade because it can’t be erased so easily.
Modern FO’s will make trades of high end players that they’re forced to make (i.e., have an excuse to make) by trade demands, contract situations, rebuilds, etc., and prefer the cover of draft picks. Independently make a trade to improve the team on basketball considerations? Almost never. Though there was the Sabonis-Haliburton deal, there aren’t many of them.
Preach
Hey if you think about it, besides maybe Sacramento they have the next best roster for trying to copy the Nuggets style and win a championship.
Firstly, Sengun is baby Jokic.
Next you need a borderline all star guard, FVV is definitely more of a passer than shooter in comparison to Murray but he is efficient enough.
Then you need forwards which shoot well, finish at the rim and play a decent level of defence. Jabari isn’t high volume but he’s efficient, and at the 3 you’ve got Whitmore, Eason and Thompson all developing. Lastly, at the 2 is KCP a 3 and D role player which Houston has Brooks, who plays that role for them.
Jalen Green doesn’t really fit into any of that and he definitely isn’t Jamal Murray, he’s not efficient as a shooter. While your SF’s are all young and developing but you’re on the right track. It’s about building culture for now.
If your to move Green I’d be more inclined to get another point guard to succeed FVV who after next season has a club option. Dejounte Murray could be a steal, he’s more of a scorer, on a good contract and the hawks are looking to move him.
Jalen Green, Reggie Bullock and a protected first for DeJounte Murray.
Colin Sexton is another similar player but potentially not as available. Really efficient, score first guard.
Otherwise there is a lot of point guards in this up coming draft like Dillingham, Wagner and I even like Ajay Mitchell and KJ Simpson.
Houston can just give up the youth for veterans Jabari Smith jr, Sengun, Landale Thompson, Jalen Green, Eason, Whitmore and cash to Brooklyn for Mikal Bridges, Claxton, L Walker Giles, Dennis Smith and DFS
Is this a serious trade suggestion?
