Veteran forward Andrew Wiggins has rejoined the Warriors after missing the past four games due to family matter, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN, who tweeted a video of Wiggins at practice.
Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic first reported that Wiggins was flying into the Bay Area and reporting to the team on Tuesday after tending to a personal family matter.
Golden State is back in action on Wednesday at home vs. the Bucks, and Wiggins is expected to be active for that game, head coach Steve Kerr said today (Twitter link via Andrews). He’ll likely be reinserted into the starting lineup, though he may be on a minutes restriction.
Moses Moody played well as a starting forward in Wiggins’ absence, but he’s in danger of falling out of the club’s crowded rotation again with the former No. 1 overall pick set to return. Moody averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds on .500/.400/.500 shooting in his four starts, three of which were Warriors wins. The one loss was an ugly one — the Dubs were blown out by 52 points on Sunday in Boston.
Wiggins missed the final 25 games of the 2022/23 season due to personal reasons, returning just before the postseason began.
Thank goodness. I was thinking this was going to be another spring break, two month paid vacation.
I hope you never have to deal with whatever he has been going through.
Greg, And what might that be?
You don’t know do you? Well neither do I. But I’m trusting that the organization is giving him a little more leeway than perhaps any other organization. That’s how the Warriors operate. People first.
So whatever it is they’re giving him the time. Could be small, could be major.
If he asks for time he gets it. So if it is small Greg, I’m sure I could handle it and probably go to work.
If it’s a major then I’d probably need some time off. Bottom line here is you don’t know a thing Greg. So don’t tell me I couldn’t handle what Andrew Wiggins is going through and ask to not show up for work. You can’t say that from where you stand.
I am guessing something has to do with his wife/girlfriend. Just seems weird that it was his birthday and he had his daughters with him at the game. Then all of a sudden he needed time off again.
Hey Gary. Gary. Your condescending tone, Gary, SAYING GARY, that Wiggins was going on, Gary Gary Gary, a paid vacGARYcation was Gary what GEG (not Greg, Gary) was getting at. Garygaryvarygarygary.
Danger bone in your very strange way I understand what you’re trying to communicate. Thank you I appreciate it.
Nothing outta bounds or insensitive with the og comment Gary
Your a WARRIOR fan and getting value out of the salary slot
(~25 m) is imperative to your success
I’ll be talking trade values here in the summer and wont think twice bringing up Wiggins availability as a determent in my analysis w no remorse. We can be remorseful and still talk logistics at the same time. Greg is most likely White Knighting you
* I don’t see how another org could have handled this better as well
Cap & crunch I appreciate your comment.
Last yr was rediculous, and again this yr shortly after an all star week off. What did he do during the week off? I was one of his avid supporter but he’s just not reliable. Very disappointing to say the least….
I would leave Moody in the starting lineup until and unless he proves he can’t do the job they need him to do in that role. In the 4 starts he just made he put up virtually the same averages as Wiggins has for the year. The Warriors need to decide whether Moody is a long term part of their future and now is a good time to get a better read on that.
I agree. Great point.
He was literally playing well again on their recent games (that they were winning)
Moody is a major part of the future
Moody needs more burn, been saying that for 18 months now. Dudes efficient, doesnt need a heap of touches and plays hard, hustles. I have a sneaky suspicion Warriors tried playing Kuminga and Moody into a more friendly contract for the team.
I will go out of limb and say that Wiggins will retire at the end of his current contract. He just doesnt enjoy playing and gets stressed easily. He is filthy rich and no longer has financial motive. It is what it is. Everybody is different. :(
Perhaps so but I don’t think so. Who knows what he’s going through. Is this a continuation from last year or something totally different? Nobody knows.
But the Warriors are giving him the time whenever he asks for it. High class Organization for sure. This is not an injury or a bad back or anything else concerning a doctor. This is just life it seems and the Warriors are respecting it.
Hopefully he comes through successfully and it doesn’t pop up again. Nobody wants him to go through anything major. At least it wasn’t a month spring break this year LOL. Couple of games and he’s back. Thank goodness.
Bizarre thinking you have any clue what Wiggins is thinking.
Wiggins stinks.
Warriors seemed to turn the corner of late, until getting mugged in Boston. Wiggins starting to play with more purpose and intensity too.
Wiggs is a weirdo. Something off about him. Even last year? Look call me a ahole but just show up to work your not a doctor your not gonna change the outcome for your dad
