NBA legend Jerry West is being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame for a third time, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Previously enshrined as a player (1979) and as a member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic team (2010), the 85-year-old has now been elected as a Hall of Fame contributor.
The latest induction into the Hall of Fame recognizes West’s work as a team executive, including general manager stints with the Lakers and Grizzlies, as well as time spent as a consultant for the Warriors and Clippers. West won eight championships in those roles, per ESPN, and won Executive of the Year awards in 1995 and 2004.
Here are more odds and ends from around the basketball world:
- Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is the runaway winner in the latest MVP straw poll conducted by Tim Bontemps of ESPN, earning 85 of 100 first-place votes from the media members who submitted mock ballots. If the real vote emulates Bontemps’ straw poll, the only drama may be whether presumed runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can hold off Luka Doncic for the No. 2 spot. Gilgeous-Alexander has been sidelined with a quad injury as of late while Doncic is coming off a second consecutive Player of the Month award.
- Jokic, Gilgeous-Alexander, Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are all unanimous First Team picks in the tentative All-NBA teams compiled by Josh Robbins, Kelly Iko, and William Guillory of The Athletic. The trio of writers agreed on 12 All-NBA players in total, with Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Jaylen Brown, and Stephen Curry also showing up on all three 15-man lists. Domantas Sabonis, Tyrese Haliburton, Tyrese Maxey, and Zion Williamson made multiple ballots, but not all three, with LeBron James earning a spot on only Iko’s ballot.
- A March 10, 2025 trial date has been set in Clark County, Nevada for Chance Comanche, the former Stockton Kings player who has been charged with murder, writes Anthony Olivieri of ESPN.com. Comanche and his former girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, face murder and kidnapping charges related to the death of Marayna Rodgers, as we previously detailed.
Old jerry seems like a good guy but I’m still yet to hear anyone come up with a valid point of how a guy who’s 1 and 8 in the finals is known as Mr Clutch. Or how Mr clutch became the symbol of the nba over Bill, apart from the obvious.
Take your sad race baiting comments elsewhere.
Because he led the playoffs in ppg five times and assists per game three times. Overall, he averaged 29.1 ppg, 6.3 apg, 5.6 rpg, on .469 FG% and .805 FT%. Finals specifically:
1962 – 31.1 ppg, 2.7 apg, 5 rpg
1963 – 29.5 ppg, 4.5 apg, 6.8 rpg
1965 – 33.8 ppg, 3.4 apg, 5.6 rpg
1966 – 33.9 ppg, 5.1 apg, 6.4 rpg
1968 – 31.3 ppg, 5.7 apg, 5.8 rpg
1969 – 37.9 ppg, 7.4 apg, 4.7 rpg
1970 – 31.3 ppg, 7.7 apg, 3.4 rpg
1972 – 19.8 ppg, 8.8 apg, 4 rpg
1973 – 21.4 ppg, 4 apg, 3.2 rpg
Overall FG% of .453 and FT% of .810. Not sure what your definition of “clutch” is, but that fits mine. Basketball is a team sport and when you’re in a short series, anything can happen.
That’s cute, 11-1 in 13 finals compared to 1 and 8. Mr consistency or Mr 2nd place is more fitting. I was raised to sink the boot into the lakers every opportunity. It’s just comes natural now
Surely Giannis is on all ballots? No Booker? Can have 2 lakers or Steph but not Booker with KD?
If your first question is referring to the MVP straw poll, Giannis was left off eight of 100 ballots, which surprised me.
Referring to all nba from the 3 writers but valid point also.
It’s a popularity contest.
Shai is a damn good player, but he deserves no higher than 3rd.
Nope, he is MVP. His 2nd best player is Jalen Williams he is very good, but people would take Kyrie, Dame, Murray, and Brown over him. He is a 2 way player too, Jokic can play some defense but he isn’t 2 way. Giannis is but his defense is different the team has taken a step back in defense. Luka is not a 2 way player.
