Team USA has completed its selection of an All-Star laden 12-player roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic report (Twitter link). Kawhi Leonard was chosen for the final roster spot, USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt tweets.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday the 11 other selections for the roster. Team USA received a firm commitment from Leonard on Tuesday, Wojnarowski tweets.
Unlike USA Basketball’s FIBA World Cup roster last summer, which lacked size and interior strength, the Olympic roster is filled with quality bigs. Joel Embiid, Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis will be joined at the power positions by LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
The wings will be manned by Jayson Tatum, Leonard, Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards. Jrue Holiday, Tyrese Haliburton and Stephen Curry round out the backcourt.
Haliburton and Edwards are the only players from the FIBA World Cup roster to make Team USA’s Olympic roster.
Team USA has won the gold medal in each of the last four Summer Olympics.
Ok, now we are talking
I thought traditionally they take a recent College player = Bronny
Lol
This must be the last ride for the old guys. The only future long stays I see are Tatum and Edwards along with Haliburton maybe.
Booker and Bam will only be 31 and 30 by 2028.
Yes but are they going to be better options than younger players.
Paolo, Chet, and Mobley all come to mind as guys that should improve and get the nods. Zion if he can improve his body and stay healthy. Flagg if he is a real deal. Lively or Duren could be strict defender not needing the ball. JJJ
Ja if more mature, Fox, Jaylen Williams, Maxey, Garland, Lamelo if healthy, Cade
Olympics is not an All Star game, so Embiid, Kawhi, AD, Bron can’t expect teams to go easy on them. They need to stay healthy, I don’t recall if they allow alternates in case injuries.
Does anyone actually think that ends up being the roster? I have a hard time believing all those guys are healthy enough to participate.
76ers are idiots for letting Embiid participate if you ask me.
Not really up to the 6ers. Do you want to be the franchise that takes the stance that you are better than the United States of America?
Teams definitely have a say. Thinking otherwise is hilariously naive.
A say is different from a final word tho. Sixers or any team can’t prevent a player from participating on an Olympic roster. NBA players union would easily fight and win that.
You don’t understand what Im saying. The 6ers resistance to one of their players playing in the olympics is a certainly a choice they have. But what would follow from making that choice puts them in a position where they absolutely do not want to be. Are you familiar with rocks and/or hard places?
#loadmanagement
Hopefully there no back to backs or gonna be a short bench.
A lot of age and miles on Team USA. This roster would be good for a legends game but not to compete against the world’s best. Expect every team to try to run on them.
Terrible take
Most of the international teams have old guys. They have played together consistently, but are old. Spain last time had old Gasol bros and many others in late 30s.
Should’ve picked a 3pt specialist instead ……… limited minutes for most of the roster anyways.
Klay, Grayson Allen, Jones, Powell, Hauser etc
Curry, Tatum, Booker, KD, Tyrese, even Bron are all shooters.
I think they needed a stretch big in KAT one the best big shooters. Joel and AD can shoot, but they need to be inside presences.
Kawhi was almost a 50/40/90 guy and fts was what he missed on…so he can shoot too.
Because team USA has never had superstar players be role players and win before? What is the logic?
