The NBA announced the 2023/24 finalists for its seven major awards on Sunday, revealing the top three vote-getters for Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, Sixth Man of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the newly added Clutch Player of the Year.
Some of these awards have felt like foregone conclusions for a while, but some results could be genuine surprises when they’re revealed beginning this week.
Today though, we’re not focusing on which players will win the awards, but the ones you believe should win them. Select your winners for this year’s major NBA awards in the seven polls below, then head to the comment section to weigh in with your thoughts.
Our polls only include the three finalists in each category, but if you think someone else deserves to win one of these awards, be sure to use the comment section to “write in” that pick and explain your reasoning.
LOL DeMar DeRozan clutch player. Guy couldn’t win a thing in Toronto with a pretty nice team because he clanked 21 foot jumpers at the end of the game for 8 years straight.
Then he got mad at them for trading him because “they had a nice thing going there” lol. No, the Raptors are trying to win something and that starts with sending you out of town.
There’s a saying for guys like DeRozan.
“He can get you 20, but he can’t get you 2.”
It’s based on season stats…not career.
I realize that it’s for this year’s award. It’s in the article above, and I’m sure the stats back it up.
I’m speaking of the phrase clutch player and Demar DeRozan being in the same sentence.
The only time I’ve seen those two in the same sentence is when someone said, “DeMar DeRozan is not a clutch player.”
Shai over Luka? Joke. Stephen A must have multiple accounts.
Thunder won 40 games last year. They won 57 this year. Even with teams leaving Giddey wide open daring him to hit 3s. They won 57 games.
Mavericks won 38 last year won 50 this year.
Comparatively speaking. Thunder didn’t do much except draft Cason Wallace and got a healthy Chet Holgrem.
Mavericks on the other hand signed Irving for a full year went out and got Gafford and Washington at the dead line.
Course SGA over Luka this season. SGA has carried the Thunder more than Luka has carried the Mavericks. Mavericks have constantly done what they can to put a competitive roster around Luka. Thunder not so much except draft draft draft.
Mavs only won 38 because they tanked too. They wanted to keep their pick, they were an actual playoff team last year.
SGA is MVP, take him off and they will be a bit better than the Rockets.
How does sengun not lead MIP? He clearly leveled up this season. Coby White just got more playing time than last season because bulls had key injuries. Neither team made the playoffs. Am I missing something?
Sengun has always been a talented player. He’s always been able to do what he’s doing now.
The Rockets improved their team so they got better as a whole, thus we saw Sangun a little more and his light was a little brighter.
With Cobe White you didn’t know what you had really. Can he play the point guard? Is he going to spend his career as a bench guy with no real defined skill?
But this year he showed he can start and play the 1 and do it well. Those are my thoughts.
Sengun certainly improved, but he was never considered a bust like White was. Even White must be surprised about his year.
Don’t know why Thibs isn’t getting more love for CotY. He would be my first vote. Brunson, DiVincenzo, Hart, Hartenstein, and McBride are all having career years while Anunoby is having his likely greatest impact on winning stretch since arriving. Mosley would be my second choice because the Magic always play really hard and have done an amazing job overachieving based on their talent level. The Thunder and twolves are much more talented teams where the players seem like a bigger part of their success this season compared to the coaching.
