Jalen Brunson fractured his left hand during Game 7 of the Knicks–Pacers series, New York PR department tweets.
It was a brutal end to a brilliant season for the Knicks guard. Brunson carried his club throughout the first two rounds of the Eastern Conference playoffs, averaging 33.7 points and 7.3 assists per contest. He had 17 points and nine assists in 29 minutes before retreating to the locker room during the second half.
New York also lost forward OG Anunoby early in the contest. Anunoby made an early departure after trying to come back from a hamstring strain. He only lasted five minutes.
The Knicks were ravaged by injuries late in the regular season and in the playoffs. Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson and Bojan Bogdanovic were all ruled out for the season due to a variety of ailments. Anunoby had missed the last four games prior to his brief return on Sunday.
Biggest Off-season coming up for the Knicks. Let’s see who they can get now. Knicks hoarding all those picks. The time is now. Knicks fans are not waiting any longer
How do you figure that “Knicks fans aren’t waiting any longer?” Generations of Knicks fans have been born and died waiting for the Knicks to win.
Knicks need to land a decent decent bench. They need better back up pg sf and pf and c long term.
This draft going for someone like Kyle Filipkwoski for backup C and Tristian Da Silva for backup PF makes sense.
“Knicks need to land a decent decent bench.”
If everyone comes back healthy and they manage to re-sign OG and iHart, the bench is Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson, Miles McBride, and possibly Bojan. That’s already a good bench.
They need to improve over McBride and need someone to be the leader of the 2nd unit. They need better back up pg. my recommendation would be Monte Morris. Back when he was given regular back up minutes dude could give you 10 a game 4 assists and hit 3s. In 25-27 minutes a night.
Need a better sg behind DiVicenzo, sorry for misspelling it. Bruce Brown makes tons of sense as a trade target and adds much needed defense to the 2nd unit. Send the raptors a lottery protected 1st or something next year. Ask raptors to help pay some of his 22.5 club option.
Hart is fine as back up sf and rotation between sf and sg and pf in small ball lineups. Same with Bojan.
They need a better back up PF than Achiuwa. Drafting one makes sense. Da Silva.
They need more at C than hope Robinson stays healthy. Makes sense to draft someone like Filipkowski, Ware, etc in addition to resigning hartenstein.
Improvements to the bench are a must. Run it back and hope guys stay healthy isn’t always the best strategy.
Knick fans should be happy because the only reason they didn’t advance was because of injuries. Their bench can still improve because they do not have over paid players. A few minor adjustments and they still are a top 4 team in the east. Just bring back OG and Hartenstien. also find a good back up PG.
lol what?
You realize it was their bench that got them this far. Hart, Hartenstein, and McBride are not starters. Donte wasn’t at the beginning of the season, either. If it wasn’t for the bench, we wouldn’t be here talking about them.
“Let’s see who they can get now.”
I think their main focus is retaining who they already have. I don’t see any big splashes. Re-signing OG and Hartenstein will be the top priority. Not sure what will happen with Bojan. If everyone is healthy this is still a top team in the East next year.
Bogdanovic needs to go. $2M to give him his walking papers is well worth it. OG and Hartenstein are top priority as you mentioned, and with two picks in the 20’s, either adding two or moving up (or way up if they throw the house of picks in) could be interesting, though this is probably the year not to do that.
Ah, agree on Bojan. I wasn’t sure what his option for next season was. One thing I read said it was a player option.
Let’s go NY LIBERTY!!!! Bring home a championship. Tough break for Brunson. Definitely a great season but a difficult loss in game 7.
Just a comical amount of injuries. Randle, Mitchell Robinson, Bojan all out. OG barely played in the series. Hart nursing an abdominal strain that seemed to limit him a great deal. Hartenstein clearly not 100%. Brunson already dealing with the foot injury and now fractures his hand.
Tommy t ran them into the ground and their bodies just couldn’t keep up
Normally I’d agree, but most of the injuries were play related. Robinson, Bogs, and Randle were injuries that could happen to anyone that had nothing to do with fatigue. Thibs really didn’t have much of a choice when it got down to the rest of the roster. I’m a huge critic of his, but this is the one time I’d give him a pass.
A Tom Thibodeau coached team ravaged by injury? Who ever could have foreseen this happening?
That’s your come to God moment my friend? Tibs player’s run through a wall for him. You deserve a smack.
Give me the team smart enough to avoid walls instead of running into them.
The Lakers. They’d rather flop.
as a 76ers fan I loved EVERY MINUTE OF IT! They wouldn’t of gotten past the 76ers if it wasn’t for horrible calls by the refs in game 1&2.
cry bumpy – we got 7 more games than the sixers this year – wahhhh refs wahhhhhhhhh
Embiid wouldn’t be in half the games if they called the flagrants like they should’ve.
The Pacers are missing their leading bench scorer Mathurin (14.5 pts) yet that wasn’t mentioned once in this series.
Mathurin has been missing for months at this point. Kind of already a given.
Yeah so was Randle yet that was talked about each game.
Probably because he was the Knicks leading scoring and all nba player, unlike Mathurin.
Nothing against Mathurin but he doesn’t have the same impact on his team’s ability to win in the playoffs like Randle would.
Some say bad luck, I say the season took its toll. Tibbs can’t play guys 40 mins the whole season and expect them to make it this far. We will see if he learns from this. My guess is no
“Ravaged by injuries”
Or
“Coached by Tom Thibodeau”
Both have the same meaning come May…
The Knicks desperately needed a secondary scorer and playmaker. Someone to take some pressure off Brunson. The Knicks really needed some players like Immanuel Quickley or maybe RJ Barrett. It’s too bad they couldn’t have acquired someone like that at the deadline.
I agree with you the Knicks need a secondary scorer but please don’t say like IQ who was a no show in last Years playoffs and RJ Barrett who regressed every year as a Knick. The Knicks should package Randle and Mitchell who cant stay healthy to save his life and the first round picks that Leon has been hoarding for Bridges,Booker,Mitchell, Durant, Derozen or another bonefilde NBA All Star to compliment this lunch Pail band of Knicks that sometimes reley too much on Iso Brunson eveb though he is a bonefilde superstar Resign Hartentein and OG .
That’s Randle. He was leading the team in scoring at the time of injury and averages 5 assists a game.
Randle was healthy when Atlanta owned him.
Trade Randle and a pick for Mikal Bridges.
I’m not sure the Nets are itching to get their hands on Randle… certainly not for Bridges…even with a pick… I am hoping Randle doesn’t end up on any team I like… That would be painful
