Nuggets guard Jamal Murray has been fined $100K for throwing multiple objects in the direction of a game official during Game 2 of their playoff series against the Timberwolves, the league announced in a press release. However, Murray averted a suspension.
Murray threw a towel toward the court during the second quarter of the Nuggets’ 106-80 loss on Monday, then tossed a heat pack that made it onto the court during live play (Twitter video link).
The incident, which Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch referred to after the game as “dangerous” and “inexcusable,” wasn’t caught in the moment by game officials. Referee crew chief Marc Davis said Murray would have been assessed with a technical foul if they knew Murray had thrown the heat pack.
Murray, who scored just eight points on 3-of-18 shooting, has been battling a calf injury during the playoffs.
He got lucky this time, but he should learn to keep his emotions in check. Next time will definitely be a suspension
Ignorant display by Murray, but I respect the NBA for not suspending him and punishing the entire team with a crucial Game 3 coming up. Ultimately it won’t matter, Minny might sweep but will definitely win this series.
Murray put that on himself. IF he didn’t want to throw a crucial Game 3, he should have thought of that before throwing sh*t onto the court. If fans do the same, they get kicked out and arrested. Should be the same precedence for everyone in the building. No special privileges for the cry baby Murray. Can’t wait for Edwards and Alexander-Walker to lock him up figuratively instead. Then he will wish he was suspended for Game 3.
Well fans aren’t getting fined 100k
A fan would get fined and arrested if they threw something at a ref/players.
Terrible refereeing against the wolves this playoffs. Hopefully, overcoming the disadvantage six times will turn the tide. I mean the refs bets against the wolves have to of lost em so much money that they won’t keep trying to fix games.
Help! Help! The paranoids are after me.
He is lucky, no suspension. Minny fans gonna let him have it.
Imagine if KAT had torn up his knee from that heat pack he threw. It’s like, there are no consequences anymore unless someone is seriously injured or dies. You can drive drunk and injure 6 people. But as long as no one dies, everything is OK. That is what we are teaching all the young fans watching the NBA today.
Agree he should have been suspended but the argument about young fans is played out. If any parents are relying on the NBA to teach their kids lessons then they shouldn’t be parents.
This is a joke by the NBA. Rudy Gobert was fined $100k for making money signs at an official earlier this year. Last night, Murray made money signs at a ref, threw a towel at a ref, and threw a heating pad at a ref and onto the court and got the same punishment.
MN Fans getting more fuel to the fire, feels disrespectful and preferential but we are used to that in MN. SKOL Wolves.
That’s accurate. He should’ve been suspended purely based on him throwing things onto the court not once but twice.
KAT should’ve gotten the cue, stepped on the item and played limp.
That’ll get a Murray suspension real quick.
Big fan of Murray, but was shocked he would lose his cool like that. Malone should have been tossed with all that yelling at the ref. If anything they should have tossed Murray for throwing stuff on the court. At least T up the bench if you don’t know who threw it.
He “averted” a suspension? Meaning Silver was too cowardly to suspend him during the playoffs.
This is a black mark on the game that won’t be removed anytime soon.
Shame on you Jamal. Shame on you Adam Silver.
Get well soon, Chris Finch.
To be honest, the Nuggets might have been better off with Murray suspended – he can’t throw up bricks that way
Came down here to say this exactly.
In fairness the Wolves foul on every possession and are putting so much pressure on the Nuggets and officials. It’s the Celtics and Pistons early 2000s style and it’s brutal to play against.
They have been playin beat-em up basketball. Sun’s tried to match them on it and gave up on that strategy. Joker usually can shut down that kind of play on his own, but MN size and aggressiveness isn’t stopping. Even their small ball has played out tough.
My favorite team to watch but Murray deserves a 2 game suspension. The refs and review center have gone crazy this playoffs. In this particular game, the refs weren’t calling anything…except Jokic and Edwards got a pretty regular whistle. When the refs call nothing, players will keep testing the limits of how much physicality they can get away with…refs totally lost control of this game…in a very bad way…somebody could have gotten hurt with all the hard fouling and shenanigans. Minny took better advantage of the refs blind eye but they also looked like the better team. It sucks that Murray isn’t playing well…he’s had 1 good playoffs now in 4 years…and I can’t expect the Nuggets to win big without him. The regular season isn’t nearly as enjoyable to watch either when he only plays 59 games. I hope he’s able to put the injury bug behind him. He’s never done anything previously to warrant a suspension. Anyone can make a mistake.
Draymond Green would have been suspended for the series…
