Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has sustained a stress injury to his left ankle and will miss the remainder of the postseason, according to the team’s PR department (Twitter link).
Robinson won’t even be reevaluated for six-to-eight weeks, thus his injury-marred season is over. The big man underwent testing late this afternoon, which determined the extent of the injury, according to Ian Begley of SNY TV (Twitter link). He won’t require surgery, Begley adds.
Earlier in the evening, the team ruled him out for Wednesday’s Game 2 against the Pacers due to left ankle injury management. It’s now apparent the injury is much more serious.
Robinson played just 12 minutes in New York’s Game 1 victory, contributing two points, two rebounds and an assist. He also missed one game during the first-round series against Philadelphia after spraining the same ankle.
Robinson underwent left ankle surgery in December. He didn’t return until March 27.
Overall, Robinson only appeared in 31 regular season games. He has two years remaining on his four-year, front-loaded $60MM contract.
With Robinson out, Precious Achiuwa‘s role figures to expand dramatically. He played just four minutes off the bench as the team’s eighth man on Monday.
I love Mitch but best ability is availability. It’s time to trade him along with Randle and Bojan and several picks for a star. Hopefully Knicks bring back Precious, Hartenstein and OG.
Who did you have in mind? Zion? Lavine? Maybe squeeze Ayton away from Portland and see if Thibs realizes his full potential? I think their main priority after the season will be to resign OG anyway they can and they figure out the rest.
I’m not sure, but I have faith hopefully the Knicks will do something. OB1 would look great about now with Randle out most of the year. That Pistons trade was a bust, and Knicks could use the extra scoring from Grimes now. They made some good trades and others I’m not sure about. The main thing, hopefully, Brunson wants to stay long-term.
Hey I’m a Clippers fan, maybe we can work something out?! lol
Randle is a star you idiot. How are you replacing his 25/10/5?
I think this hurts the NYK cause going forward, more than the numbers might suggest. IH has been great and earned the top spot, but now has to play starter minutes regardless of the matchup, and he has less flexibility in picking up fouls. The only silver lining is that PA gets an opportunity in the playoffs to do more than be OG’s caddy for a few minutes. Also, it would have been worse news if it happened during the PHI series.
Agreed. Ultimately this is even more pressure on an already saturated Brunson.
Why don’t you just enjoy the playoffs. We’ll have plenty of time to adress needs. Yogi is talking.
Mitch has to heal. Get healthy Mitch. You are still a young man.
Opportunity for Achiuwa and Sims. Let’s go
Yeah I’m looking at Precious and even Sims to put in some work. We know Precious can contribute, but Sims could be an x-factor if he can step up (if Thibs is willing to give him a shot).
This a follow on from Embiid injury or a new one?
Big men … so injury prone.
This one in particular
Dang….Thibs is really going to have to play his starters 60 minutes a night now….
I think Wiseman under Thibs could thrive.
Maybe, maybe not, but I doubt the Knicks are in a position at this point to take a gamble on an underachieving former prospect. I assume most significant additions moving forward would be proven players that fit well in Coach Thibs system.
Wiseman and “thriving” are not two words that will ever make sense together
