The NBA officially unveiled the two All-Rookie teams for the 2023/24 season on Monday (Twitter links). The teams are as follows:
First Team
- Chet Holmgren, Thunder
- Jaime Jaquez, Heat
- Brandon Miller, Hornets
- Brandin Podziemski, Warriors
- Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
Second Team
- Keyonte George, Jazz
- GG Jackson, Grizzlies
- Dereck Lively, Mavericks
- Amen Thompson, Rockets
- Cason Wallace, Thunder
Unsurprisingly, Wembanyama and Holmgren were unanimous selections to the first team (Twitter link). Last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Wembanyama was also the unanimous choice for Rookie of the Year, with Holmgren receiving all but one second-place vote for that award.
The entire first team mirrored the Rookie of the Year balloting, with Miller, Jaquez and Podziemski coming in third through fifth. Lively received the most points for the second team, followed by Thompson, George, Wallace and Jackson.
Jackson is the only All-Rookie member who wasn’t drafted in the first round; he was selected 45th overall in 2023 and initially signed a two-way contract. He was converted to a standard contract in February.
The current youngest player in the NBA, Jackson didn’t start receiving regular minutes until mid-January. The 19-year-old put up some big numbers down the stretch though, including 31 points and 44 points in the final two games of the season.
Jackson beat out Warriors big man Trayce Jackson-Davis for the final spot on the second team by a single point. Jackson actually received fewer overall votes (38 vs. 42 for Jackson-Davis), but earned the nod by receiving five first-team votes, which were worth two points apiece (second-team votes were worth one point each).
A total of 22 rookies received at least one vote. Aside from Jackson-Davis, the other top finishers who didn’t make the cut were Pistons forward Ausar Thompson (35 points), Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson (33), and Wizards wing Bilal Coulibaly (14). Ausar is Amen’s identical twin brother.
All-Rookie was one of the awards that didn’t require players to meet the newly instituted 65-game minimum. Jackson, Lively, Thompson, and Wallace didn’t meet that criteria, but they were still eligible for All-Rookie honors.
Lol Trayce Jackson Davis was robbed so bad, he should have easily made the 2nd team smh
Wallace should not be on the list. They should be switched. I agree with you
Nope. Only a GSW fan who doesn’t watch much NBA would say he was robbed.
Looking at the stats alone there is one player for sure did not deserve it because nothing he did was great but played more minutes. What did Cason Wallace do that was worthy?
Did you even watch Cason Wallace play? If you did you would have no doubt about him as a player. Stats wise, he was second among all rookies in FG% and 3P%. What’s not to like about shooting .419 from three? He is also a good on-ball defender.
just a average player. He shot 30% from 3pt in Dallas series. He barely takes any 3pt shots.
“just a average player. He shot 30% from 3pt in Dallas series”
LOL, so all you have ever seen of Wallace, if at all, was that playoff series where he was getting serious minutes at age 20? Meanwhile your guy, 24 year old Jackson-Davis, got benched a few minutes into the play in game because he was overwhelmed and likely crapped his shorts. You just confirmed my suspicion that you never watch NBA games other than the Warriors and all you know about other team’s players is stats that you don’t have any context for.
“Looking at the stats alone”. There’s the entirely of the problem. Defense, defense, defense.
The fact that he could handle playoff minutes as a rookie speaks volumes.
Chet shouldn’t count as a rookie! Second year drawing an NBA salary equals not a rookie.
I think playing time is the determination in all sports. Hold your bitterness.
Chet played as many minutes in the NBA as anyone else listed here last season. Heck he’s played less professional basketball than The Thompson’s or Wembanyama.
What does that matter? Collecting a paycheck all tear from an nba team makes you no longer a rookie. Had a nice second year
I bet your team gets screwed by the refs in every single loss.
Did they misprint the wrong Thompson?
Which 1 of these all-rookie quintets would you rather have as the core of your team if you could have all 5 guys for their whole career?…

It’s 96 for me. Give me KG, Rasheed, and the underappreciated Brent Barry.

As a big Hawks fan & a guy that was a big believer in Nenad Krstic I dig the 05 choice alot but I’m curious what makes you value them so much higher than the 00 group with Artest, Jet, Matrix etc

Looks like Dunleavy had a great draft. His 1st round pick makes the 1st All-Rookie team. 2nd round pick almost makes 2nd All-Rookie team. Hope he can keep it up.
