Gordon Hayward was added by the Thunder from the Hornets at the trade deadline but wound up having no impact during the postseason. He only made seven appearances in the playoffs, averaging 6.6 minutes in those contests. That was a source of frustration for Hayward, who is headed for free agency, Rylan Stiles writes in a story at Sports Illustrated.
“Obviously disappointing with kind of how it all worked out. This is not what I thought it would be. Certainly frustrating. … We have a great team here with great young players, a great coach. So the future is bright,” Hayward said, adding, “I feel like as a player I have a lot to offer. I just wasn’t given much of an opportunity to do that.”
We have more from the Northwest Division:
- The Thunder were the youngest team in NBA history to clinch a No. 1 seed. Though they were eliminated in the second round, the best is yet to come for this franchise, Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman writes. “I feel like we can do anything we want to do,” Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said.
- The Timberwolves’ Game 7 triumph over the Nuggets on Sunday was a tribute to Tim Connelly‘s decision to build with size, according to Rob Mahoney of The Ringer. The trio of Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid wore down Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic. No team can match Minnesota’s collective size, Mahoney notes, which allows the Timberwolves to play superior defensive coverage.
- Another columnist, Jim Souhan of The Star Tribune, also heaped praise on the team president, declaring the Timberwolves are built to win this year and also to contend for years to come. Souhan notes that Kyle Anderson is the only member of the Wolves’ regular eight-man rotation who is not signed long-term.
Trae Young, AJ Griffin, Garrison Matthews & the #1 overall pick for Anthony Edwards & Jordan McLaughlin… Minnesota prob grabs Risacher #1
The Wolves wouldn’t accept the complete Hawks roster for Ant-Man.
I don’t think there’s too many players in the league the T-Wolves would take back for Edwards. I mean I’d take SGA or Luka but those guys aren’t on the market. He’s one of the guys that will soon be one of the biggest stars in the league. The teams that have those kind of players aren’t looking to trade them.
The Wolves 100% would have no interest in the Hawks package presented. I also don’t think the Wolves would be interested in a straight swap for SGA or Luka. Sure, you can argue those two are better players–and they probably are at this point–but I think he’s too much of an emotional leader, plus I believe he has greater athletic tools than both, leading him to have a higher potential.
I’d like the idea
Young and No 1 pick for a young star
Equal value is absolutely needed
My idea
Wemby, 4 and 8 for a young star
Young star? Wemby isn’t even 20. How much more younger do you want? This is the worst proposal yet from you. Lmao
I still had some doubts, but now I’m 100% sure that you are just a parody account.
Drug test Sankara.
That is beyond ridiculous. ANT is still a kid and turning heads as member of the wolves which doesn’t happen.
No team trades a 22 year old being compared to Jordan and Kobe who has already established himself as a face of the NBA. When joker got this year’s MVP, ANT probably told him congrats, because that will be the last MVP anyone but him will see in a long time.
lol I guess y’all thought KG was gonna retire in Minnesota too
KG was 30 when they made that trade, Edwards is 22. Edwards will be going into the second season of a 5 year rookie extension on a team that’s a championship contender and may but seasons end may very well be the defending champs. Garnett’s contract was almost up and the Wolves hadn’t made the playoffs in three seasons and wanted to rebuild. Garnett signed off on that trade because he felt pushed out and it was to a storied franchise like the Celtics not the freakin’ Hawks.
KG left at 30 & obv should got outta there earlier. KLove left at 25 & Marbury was 21. Ant wants to play in Atl & it’s really just a matter of time before that happens. Their ownership situation is extremely shaky, the weather is terrible & coming off an Olympic gold medal is a perfect time to make the move (ask Barkley). Whenever he decides to make that call the Timberwolves are just gonna have to make the best of it & I would love to see anyone top a 25yo perennial all-star, the #1 pick in the draft plus another intriguing young prospect
Marbury was traded because he was the 2nd option at best and didn’t get along with KG. Kevin Love was not making the Wolves better and never a #1 or 2 option.
Only you are stating he wants to play in ATL…delusional. Young stars don’t ask for trades because they can’t get that super max either now with the new team.
We gotta do better
Media: would you like to play for your hometown team?
Ant-Man: Man, F- them Hawks!
Man, if you’re even trying to compare the Kevin Love situation to Anthony Edwards’ situation, you’re either intentionally ignoring the other factors or being willfully ignorant. Come on now. The Wolves were also garbage when both were moved. Love spent 6 seasons and he still got moved for the #1 pick (a much less talented player than Ant for a much more talented #1 pick than Sarr or Risacher). That package is well short and you know it.
Even if you think KG should have been moved earlier (which is goofy, IMO), he still spent 12 seasons in Minnesota.
Let’s be real here. You know Ant isn’t getting moved and any proposals are a waste of time.
The amount of booze/narcotics that have to be pumping through your bloodstream to have this thought…. you’ve out done your regularly scheduled stupidity here stanky. Thank you for the laugh
You really think anyone wants to trade anything of value for Trae?
You’ll be lucky if you get James Harden or another ageing veteran back…
No budding star is gonna be on the table WITH that pick… So many better options…
OKC needs, rebounding and toughness. Too many times Chet was getting bodied by Lively and Gafford in the series. I think they need to add more length and more toughness at the 5. Possibly Drummond? OKC has one closer while Dallas has two. That’s the difference. They need to find a way to get another scorer who can create his own shot either in the draft or FA.
They should draft Zach Edey. 7’4″. They guy is going to be a lot better than people realize. They guy hit 14 of 25 three-point shots at the combine. 60 percent from inside. I hope my Spurs get him.
Edey is gonna have trouble guarding quicker Cs in the league. They need a more mobile big man. Like the Jarrert Allen/Clint Capela types
Jeremy Sochan, Devonte Graham & #4 overall to OKC for Josh Giddey, Kenrich Williams & #12 overall… who says no & why?
SAS accountants, there’s zero reason for anyone to see that contract opted into
what contract
Graham, he will be bought out for 2 M rather than have his 12.5 mill picked up
The chance to acquire a young, inexpensive starting pg like Josh Giddey seems like a good enough reason for SAS to pick up the final yr in Graham’s contract. Obv they wouldn’t be the ones paying him. They’d be trading him
They could just use cap to facilitate the same trade sans him and nobody has to pay Graham making it much easier for both parties.
Zero reason to guarantee that extra 10 mill, if they were over the cap, sure, but they are clearly going to operate under this year
ok Giddey & 12 for Sochan & 8
Drummond can’t defend so he can’t play in the playoffs. He also would only be in the paint for offense so clogs Jalen & SGA work area.
Hartenstein, Clingan, Capela if they miss on the first two, Claxton if Nets don’t fight to keep him, one of Hornets bigs in Williams or Richards if they draft a big.
Late to the party, but agree with you. They def need a bruiser at C to rebound and defend bigger guys. Chet is more of a PF with that gangly body of his. In another site, some posters were clamoring for OKC to trade for Jarrett Allen. I think his type is def what they need, although I have my doubts that the Cavs will trade him. Capela is available, and he is absolutely who OKC should target for their starting 5. This slides Chet to PF, then Jalen Williams to SF, I guess they really like Dortz at SG even though he sometimes shoots them out of games, and SGA at PG.
Capela in OKC would be a problem for the West but I’m not sure I see a deal there. I mean is Giddy, Williams, Protected 1st an overpay by the Thunder? Would the Hawks take anything less than that? Im not even sure the money works on that deal – just what came to mind.
