The Pistons, Spurs, and Pelicans are among the teams expected to have interest in Tobias Harris this offseason, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report (video link), who confirms that the Jazz and Mavericks are in that group as well, as previously reported. While Harris, an unrestricted free agent, isn’t expected to return to Philadelphia, he’ll draw “ample interest” from other suitors, says Haynes.
Detroit, San Antonio, and Utah are all in position to open up cap room this summer, whereas New Orleans and Dallas project to at least flirt with the luxury tax line. If the Pelicans or Mavs pursue Harris, it would likely have to be via sign-and-trade, Haynes notes.
Here are a few more items of interest from Haynes:
- Malik Beasley has almost certainly played his last game with the Bucks, according to Haynes (video link). Milwaukee doesn’t have the ability to offer Beasley more than 20% above his minimum salary, whereas the veteran swingman will likely be seeking a deal in the mid-level range after ranking among the NBA’s top three-point shooters in 2023/24 — he made 41.3% of 6.9 attempts per game.
- If Kentavious Caldwell-Pope doesn’t agree to a new deal with the Nuggets during the exclusive negotiating period, he won’t pick up his $15.4MM player option for 2024/25 at the June 29 deadline, per Haynes (video link). That doesn’t mean Caldwell-Pope will definitely leave Denver, since he and the team could still come to terms after that, but he would at least test the market in that scenario. There would be a “plethora” of teams, and “not just contending teams,” who would have interest in the veteran wing, Haynes adds.
- Haynes says he “definitely” thinks Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram will be traded this summer, though he’s still working to confirm the likeliest landing spots for the former All-Star (video link).
- Five months after they extended Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers still don’t have a deal in place with their other star forward, but they’re “not panicking” as Paul George nears potential free agency, according to Haynes, who says signing the nine-time All-Star to a new contract continues to be L.A.’s number one offseason priority (video link). Haynes adds that he believes the Magic have shown some interest in George, which has been previously reported.
I like this
76ers send Tobias Harris to Mavs via sign-and-trade
Hardaway and Hardy for Harris
Picks
76ers would ask
Harris for Washington and Hardaway
Then send Hardaway and a First to Pistons for a Second
I like this sign and trade Harris with b-ball Paul along with picks to Utah for lauri and Kessler. YES Danny ainge liked b-ball Paul.
If George just isn’t in the cards why not re-sign Harris to a reasonable deal. He’s not a $36 million player but he’s still a productive player and would offer some continuity with Embiid and Maxey.
Yeah, I would try to sign Harris to a reasonable contract and try to sign KCP. Don’t think the Sixers can do much better. Although I still think KCP will stay in Denver.
KCP has played himself out of Denver. Nuggets cap is a mess.
Harris is a 4th option and a 10-12M player.
$10-12 million isn’t even the MLE, he’s better than that.
Expecting Harris to be better than that, is like expecting a toad to turn into king. Never going to happen.
If the Pistons, Sixers, Magic and Spurs don’t offer him more, he is an MLE or partial MLE player. MLE is like 12.3.
Sign and trade for Tobias isnt going to happen because all sign and trades for to be for 3 or 4 years minimum can’t remember. No team is offering him that.
San Antonio does make sense if they don’t rate Sochan. Trade up from 4 to 1 and give the hawks back their 2025 pick. Take Risacher and then a point guard Carter, Castle, Dillingham or Topic. Dillingham would be my favourite. Then sign Tobias in FA.
Jones Vassell Risacher Tobias (FA) Wemby
Dillingham Fouriner (FA) Johnson Sochan Collins
Wesley Branham Cissoko Champagine Bassey
Could be an under the radar play in side.
Jones is a solid defender and playmaker, Vassell is a good scorer, Risacher projects to be a nice 3 and D forward, Tobias a more experienced consistent contributor and handy defender and Wemby to have another insane season and only get better and better.
Dillingham nice spark off the bench with Fouriner more of a cooling locker room presence. Johnson and Sochan as the forwards and Collins your back up big. With plenty of other young guys battling for minutes
Spurs are not signing any costly FAs this year. They have been very clear that they know Wemby is not going to be ready to win a championship at 20 years and that they will be patient building around him. Signing a player in decline like Harris makes zero sense. They could bring in a veteran PG and maybe a pure 3 point shooter to help space the floor for Wemby but that should be the extent of it for this year.
I could see them taking a look at younger player like OGA but they aren’t going to spend $170 million on him.
The desperate teams that would offer him more than the MLE could just sign him.. Utah, San Antonio, Detroit, Orlando… all have cap space. Maybe Charlotte they did it before with Hayward that was a S&T I think.
Maybe Toronto if they wanted to get something for Brown.
But I see it as a very low probability.
Harris has been so horrible past few years its stupid anyone is interested in him for anything but the minimum.
Let Harris go to Detroit.
Agree, his commercials are horrible also.
Ingram is not worth max money. It would be foolish to trade for him. Nobody is giving him max money in FA.
