Warriors coach Steve Kerr doesn’t want to go into next season without Klay Thompson.
Kerr told Tristi Rodriguez on the Jim Rome Show (hat tip to Zach Bachar of Bleacher Report) he doesn’t want to see the Splash Brothers broken up. Thompson is headed to unrestricted free agency unless he signs an extension in the coming days. The Athletic reported this week that negotiations between the two parties are “essentially frozen.”
“I want him back desperately,” Kerr said. “And we will have our conversations and he’s got to make whatever decision he makes, but we really want him back. He’s Klay Thompson.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- The Rockets swapped future draft picks with the Nets, acquiring numerous Phoenix first-rounders with an eye toward pushing the Suns to trade Kevin Durant or Devin Booker. However, the Suns are intent on “riding” with Booker, Bradley Beal and Durant, according to Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic (Twitter link).
- The Suns might target veteran guard Kris Dunn in free agency, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony (subscription required). Phoenix, in the market for point guard depth, is limited to offering veteran’s minimum deals to free agents and rival teams expect them to take a long look at Dunn, who started 32 games for Utah last season.
- Sasha Vezenkov would prefer to remain in the NBA, Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops.net relays. There have been conflicting reports on whether the former Euroleague star wants to stay in the NBA, though the Kings wing has a fully guaranteed contract for next season. “Panathinaikos called me sometimes and expressed interest,” Nick Lotsos, Vezenkov’s rep, told the Greek newspaper Fos. “I told them that both Vezenkov and myself want to see if he will continue in the NBA first. If he leaves the NBA, we will give priority to his last European team, Olympiacos, in discussions. If negotiations do not succeed, then we will probably open talks with other teams.”
- The Clippers don’t have a first-round pick but they do own the No. 46 overall pick. Law Murray of The Athletic explores which players the Clippers might target in the second round.
- Former Raptors and Pistons coach Dwane Casey and former Nets coach Jacque Vaughn are candidates to join J.J. Redick’s staff with the Lakers, according to Marc Stein. The Lakers want to surround Redick with experienced voices.
Finish the sentence Kerr, you “desperately want him back” on a 1 year, $15M deal…
Why do you keep deleting your account and coming back months later with a new handle and same bad takes? Strike Four, Marty McRae, etc.
Strike Four.., now that’s going waaaay back. Great memory.
Dude should bet his house on the GSW winning the chip next year. His confidence level is nuts.
I thought this was Marty as well
Warriors should stop going off of nostalgia and do what is right for the future of the organization. The parts are worth more than the sum at this point.
Trade all their vets, including Curry. They can get lots of promising young assets, plus picks. Do them a solid and trade them to s contender. Curry, Green and Thompson can have an opportunity of playing on a contender the last few years, as opposed to, being relegated to the play in tournament.
It almost feels like famous Western characters being taken on a circus tour, like Annie Oakley, at this point by keeping them together. All show and no substance as they don’t have a chance anymore together.
lmao what a cope, kuminga is going to be an all-star in this league and moody might be elite too
steph and the warriors live rent free in your mind and always will, steph is retiring a 1-team guy and the warriors still have the talent to win a title within the next 3 years, easily. theyre about to trade wiggins, gp2 and cp3 for pg13 and then another title seems very in-reach. Compare the 2022 title winner roster to this one…theres not that much difference, and in fact this upcoming one might be better…
The PG13-to-Warriors speculation sounds a little far fetched to me. Warriors are gonna have to trade several guys who would be in the ‘24-‘25 rotation even if they are able to sign PG13 straight-up. Hopefully this is a distraction from something bigger (and better) in the works.
PG13 for Wiggins, GP2 and CP3 and a pick or two seems like a no brainer for both sides that doesn’t even make either side that much worse, with both having a decent ceiling to get better.
No brainer for both sides hahahahahaha more like no brain in your head
Fantasy trade in your mind Dave. Terrible trade for the clippers and one I think The Beard might not like.
Nailed it. The warriors could try to throw garbage at the clippers for Paul George doesn’t mean the clippers would ever take it. They’re trying to win a title too….
Moses Moody is not and will not be elite. He doesn’t have a single elite quality to his game. There are dozens of guys in the league similar to him that I’m sure you would trash if anyone referred to them as elite. The only difference is that those guys are not on your favorite team.
Did I miss something because nobody says Moody is a elite player.
You did miss something (read?). Warriors slurper Davey J literally said “moody might be elite too”.
2 years ago they were champs when everyone picked the Celtics to be champs. Got to love these critics who said the same thing when KD left they will never be champs again.
Just in case you guys were wondering, that something “better in the works” I am referring to would be the aforementioned (from previous comments) Murray-Bogdanovic-Capela trio or simply the Murray-Capela duo OR (even simpler) acquiring Dejounte Murray by his lonesome. Another wish list scenario I just came up with – someone please crunch the numbers for me to see if this one works – is Jimmy Buckets and running mates Jaime Jacquez and Haywood Highsmith (Heat sign then trade) coming to the bay for Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga (gotta be included to entice Riley), Brandin Podziemski (would hate to see him go, but if it’s for Jimmy B?…..O-Kaaaayyyyyyy-uh!!) and a future draft pick or two.
If the numbers crunch out ok, let’s get on the phone and harass the HECK out of Dunleavy Jr. to call Pat…..PRONTO!!!
I’m not a big Butler fan since his best days are in the past. i wouldn’t trade all that for a guy who could bolt next year if the Warriors fail to make the playoffs. Highsmith can easily be obtained since he is a free agent and not a top 50 free agent. You could get him on a low free agent deal.
LaMelo Ball, Nick Smith Jr & #6 pick in the draft for Steph Curry… W’s go ahead & start the rebuild. Melo, Podziemski, Moody, Kuminga, Looney, Nick Smith, Ron Holland, Trayce & whatever they get for Draymond & Wiggins is a fertile spot to build on but they should lose enough to be in contention for a top5 pick.
Hornets bring Steph back to his hometown, reunite the fam & gives BMiller the best ever mentor he could hope for… Micic/Steph/Miller/Miles/MWilliams with Tre Mann, Seth, Bertans, GWilliams, NRichards is a pretty formidable squad on paper. If they can get Tobias Harris or a similar type vet forward in return for Miles Bridges in a S&T that could work too
If the warriors were to trade Curry it would be more than the Nets or Utah got in a trade lately. Ball, Smith and a #6 wouldn’t even come half of what they could get for Curry.
LaMelo plus a 20yo guy who was just a late 1st rd pick last yr, plus the #6 pick in tonight’s draft is definitely more than the Nets just got. Melo himself might be worth what BK just got last night
Melo has a history of injuries so his value is way down right now. Instead put in Miller then you can start talking with more draft picks. Look around the league there are teams withh much better players to offer and draft picks. OKC and even Houston could was offer a lot more for Curry.
Melo def has a history of injuries but his value def isn’t way down as you might have seen from the huge contract he just got. You might remember Steph Curry having a similar history of injuries at the same age. I’m thinking GSW would definitely work with Steph to send him to a preferred destination. Charlotte would fit that. If he had interest in going to Houston I’m sure they could put together a strong package no doubt. What do you think they’d be willing to give up for Steph?
If they are going to do a rebuild it would be 5 draft picks and a good young future all star. Every team in the league would be making over pay offers for Curry. He is not just a great player but a money maker for any team. He is the most popular player in the world right now.
They would be much better off with a guaranteed stud like Melo than multiple picks, most of them late in the 1st. No reason to waste Kuminga/Podz/Moody’s prime waiting on their 2027-2031 draft haul to pay off. They can start building chemistry this upcoming season & won’t have to go thru nearly as much losing. The only reason you’d want all those picks is to be able to have a chance to get a top5 pick & grab a great player. Instead of waiting 4,5yrs & hoping, here’s 23yo all-star level 6’7 pg Melo Ball & the #6 pick in the draft. Id take the sure thing.
And yes Steph is an icon & a cash cow but this is a team that missed the playoffs this season & has gotten progressively worse & older & more expensive every yr. They could hold on for one more yr & try to make one last push but I mean they’re clearly not gonna win anything. Resigning Klay would be crazy. The time to trade Draymond was probably right after he punched Poole but waiting any longer would be even crazier. And the return on Steph is never gonna be higher than it is now.
Melo is only a elite player every team wants from somebody that lives in Charlotte. He is not even the best player on his team. His injury was real bad and nobody knows if he can come back at full strength next year. Even warrior’s GM said this is a weak draft and he is glad this years pick was the one that was traded since he didn’t see much out there.
Curry is going to be elite for another 5 years at least though, there’s no value in moving him unless its for Jokic or Giannis.
Curry is the most untouchable player in the league. It would take all your draft picks and all your players to get him. That lame proposal wouldn’t even stop the warriors from laughing as they hung up on you. Lamello is damaged goods who will never be a good player. And the 6th pick in a historically weak draft class…. Had to double check the name and make sure it wasn’t the bot sillivan making this bone head post.
Exactly, its a worthless convo to have. Just ban this topic, its never happening and its just pure cope by GSW haters who Curry lives rent free in their minds 24-7…
Some people truly will not rest until Curry is off GSW…cope more, clowns! He’s retiring a Warrior. Everyone on here can shut up about “Curry trades” on here now, please and thanks! Talk more about PG13 to GSW, a thing that actually might happen!
What people forget he is the most marketable player in the league. He has fans that travel overseas to see him play. He is signing bottles at the next town over from me on Saturday i know that place with be so packed you better get there at 6 am to get parking.
Most untouchable player? Might be this one guy can’t remember his name on the spurs who holds that label. Such a bad take
Steph Curry is retiring a Warrior, any words you write otherwise are worthless and lack any type of value other than moving your fingers on the keyboard.
Curry would get 3x that package and I like Ball more than most
Warriors trading Curry? Lol that has to be one of the dumbest posts on this website.
Curry is going to retire as a Warrior. Book it!
It’s a NY thing …….,
Please trade Kuminga. That guy is not dependable at all. His athleticism is amazing and generally his effort is really good…but TRADE HIM .
Should be able to get a decent return for him… let’s hear some trade ideas to send him packing and get some reliable help in for Steph!
You realize he’s only 21
Why is Melo even this conversation??
