Could Patrick Beverley play overseas next season? The longtime NBA point guard has garnered the interest of Israel’s Hapoel Tel Aviv, according to a Walla report (hat tip to Sportando).
Beverley, 36, is an unrestricted free agent. He played for the Bucks last season and made highlights for the wrong reasons in the playoffs. He fired a basketball multiple times at Indiana spectators and received a four-game suspension that he’ll serve at the start of the 2024/25 season if he’s in the NBA. Beverley had stated a preference to re-sign with Milwaukee.
The veteran guard played in the Ukraine, Greece and Russia before setting roots in the NBA in 2013.
We have more from around the basketball world:
- While many NBA observers have noted the second apron restrictions during this offseason, The Ringer’s Howard Beck makes a case that the negative impact of those aprons has been somewhat overblown. It should benefit the smaller market teams who don’t have the ability to go deep into the luxury tax, as the Warriors and Clippers have in recent years, Beck writes, noting that could help the league overall in its aim of competitive balance.
- Yes, highly-touted Cooper Flagg ranks No. 1 in The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie’s 2025 mock draft, but there are plenty of other standout prospects, in Vecenie’s estimation. Rutgers guard Dylan Harper and forward Ace Bailey, France’s Nolan Traore and Baylor guard V.J. Edgecombe are the other prospects who make Vecenie’s early top five.
- Longtime NBA assistant Hank Egan is the recipient of this year’s Tex Winter Assistant Coach Lifetime Impact Award, the National Basketball Coaches Association announced (Twitter link). Egan, 86, most recently coached in the league with Cleveland from 2005-10.
- Suns center Mason Plumlee has been elected as a Secretary-Treasurer for the Players’ Association, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets. Plumlee will begin a three-year tenure as part of the union’s leadership.
Would happily take Pat back in Philly as a back up. He seemed to fit in well in our locker room and played a good role for us off the bench.
Think he would also be a good back up on the Heat and fit into their culture well.
Him and Jimmy would be a sight to see in trainings
The idea that the 2nd apron is a good thing for smaller market teams feels incorrect if a team like OKC or DEN drafts well but can’t keep their players.
Just a travesty that if a team drafts well and develops great players, they aren’t able to really keep them if they succeed drafting multiple players.
Really hoping they address that in the next CBA. They swung the pendulum too far the other way.
Blame the cowardice owners who constantly cry.
The warriors drafted well and they still had to let players go. So I don’t feel sorry for OKC or DEN losing players because of the 2nd apron. The owners wanted it now they got it.
The Warriors did not have to let anyone go. They chose to do so. Starting a narrative that the Warriors were forced to break up their core is beyond ridiculous.
boner , he didn’t say Warriors ‘were forced to break up their CORE”.
Warriors kept their core, but had to let OTHERS go.
I’m pretty sure the nuggets have been able to keep the best players they have drafted in the past 10 seasons(jokic, Murray, mpj,)
Lakers got nothing in 2024 free agents. Should the Lakers target 2025 top 5 picks?
Should the Lakers target 2025 top 5 picks?
The Pelicans would certainly be very happy about that as they have the Lakers’ unprotected pick in 2025.
Again me going off on my own tangent, I think Brooklyn is low key hoping they get next years number overall pick and can take Cooper Flagg.
They gave up on being good by trading Mikal Bridges away and aren’t really looking to improve the roster at all. They hired who they believe was the best player development coach, in Jordi Fernandez. They aren’t interested in trading their expiring deals instead they’d rather have cap space money to spend after this season.
I feel like they should definitely head in this direction and if anything double down and start almost planning on building around Cooper.
For example, My Sixers look like they are trying to make a sign and trade deal with KJ Martin for a PF, give up DFS and get back Martin and first.
Helps make you a worse side and better the odds, while also adding future draft capital.
Another couple moves, I’d try add Santi Aldama.
Think he could be a great fit between Cooper and Claxton. He’s from Spain like coach Jordi, he stretches the floor, and has good size, while Memphis is loaded with young players.
Another is signing Malachi Flynn as a FA. Think he would be a solid young back up to Schroder and could carve out a good career under the right guidance. He won’t cost much either.
Justin Champagine, would be another young guy I’d sign. Worked under Jordi in Toronto, was born and raised in Brooklyn. Has been battling away in the GLeague with decent numbers.
Thus leaving you to line up
Schroder Thomas Johnson Aldama* Claxton
Flynn* Champagnie* Martin* Clowney Sharpe
Simmons Whitehead Bogdanovic Wilson Diakite
If the team with the #1 pick already has a young talented big maybe they trade the pick. We haven’t seen the 1# pick moved since Boston and Philly.
Because it hasn’t worked out well when it does…
