The top two picks in the draft — Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr — were also two of the biggest disappointments during Summer League action, John Hollinger of The Athletic notes.
The Hawks‘ Risacher shot 11-of-28 from the floor in 59 minutes before being sidelined by a quad contusion. The Wizards‘ Sarr shot 0-of-15 from the field in his third game and only scored two points in his fourth outing. The Pacers‘ Jarace Walker and Timberwolves‘ Rob Dillingham were among the other notable players who struggled in Vegas.
On the flip side, third overall pick Reed Sheppard of the Rockets showcased his all-around skills, Hollinger writes. Another standout was Scotty Pippen Jr., who made a strong case to be the Grizzlies‘ backup point guard.
The Ringer’s J. Kyle Mann and ESPN’s experts also shared their thoughts on the biggest takeaways from Summer League action.
We have more from around the basketball world:
- LeBron James ranks No. 1 among the top 25 players in this century, according to a poll of ESPN experts. Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O’Neal round out the top five.
- The new broadcasting deals signed by the league with Disney, NBC and Amazon include national broadcasts on every day of the week during the regular season. ESPN’s Tim Bontemps provides more details on the rights packages.
- Patrick Beverley will not face criminal charges for throwing a basketball at a Pacers fan during the playoffs, The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov tweets. A Marion County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman said the county won’t bring charges after it reviewed the Indianapolis police department investigation. Beverley is expected to play with an Israeli team next season.
French players have a 95% bust rate. All of them who got drafted this year should give a certain % of money in their checks to wemby.
Boris, Parker, Gobert, Fournier(has been around just because a team does not use him does not mean bust), Wemby, Batum. Probably a little more than 5% succeed these are names that come right to mind.
83% of statistics are completely made up…
My bad I forgot to put in the last 10 years, but here are some names: Nikitikina, yabusele, ingles, dembouye, Joffrey laveurgne, okobo , Maledon, killian hayes, cissoko(will be out the league soon), lawuwu-cabbarot, diabete…
Jarace Walker did not struggle in summer league, whats he talking about.
“LeBron James ranks No. 1 among the top 25 players in this century, according to a poll of ESPN experts. Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O’Neal round out the top five.”
Experts ???? I’d call them click Who’s !!!!
Only Bron makes top 5 GOATS this century.
Should have phrased it last 30 yrs ….
Wasn’t really educated about Reed. Really didn’t watch him much. Watched him in SL. He looks good. Reminds me of Curry’s game. He’s got the genes and IQ to be special. Especially if he can play the point.
I LUUUUV IIIIIIIT, KnickerbockerAl!! Should we have expected anything different from ESPN?! Funny that you don’t have to dig deep to remember Brawny Sensation has a losing Finals record against Timmy AND Steph, and Kobe HUMILIATED Brawny (AND his fragile legacy) in everything from in-season matchups to All-Star games and Team USA scrimmages.
BRAHHHHHH-NEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Yeah it must be humiliating for LeBron to have had his team go 16-6 against Kobe’s. LeBron averaged more points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks while having a higher FGP, 3P%, BPM and VORP than Kobe in those matchups, how embarrassing!
Reed plays way better D than Curry
I do too.
Chucktoad1 MAY be a dedicated advisor for Klutch Warts, which is currently in the PAINSTAKING process of trying to rewrite the last quarter century or so of NBA basketball! Look…..Kobe and Duncan owned the 2000s. Steph was the unequivocal master of the second half of the 20-teens. The 2020s is obviously still being written. So…..that leaves the first half of the 20-teens for Brawny?? I mean…..sweep 2011 under the rug all you want, but it’s a GLARING blemish on Brawny’s resume. Have at it with 2012 and 2013 all you want, but remember, Chucktoad1……the history of the NBA has HUGELY been defined by dynasties…..players amassing tremendous reputations with the team they started with. Brawny has never been part of a dynasty and he amassed SQUAT his first 7 years with Cleveland before needing to jump ship and surround himself with multiple superstars – and imagine if the Heat HAD added CP3 or Carmelo to the group of Brawny-DWade-Bosh??!! Get outta here, ESPN!!
Steph playing with multiple Hall of Famers is okay
Duncan playing with multiple Hall of Famers is okay
Kobe playing with multiple Hall of Famers is okay
LeBron playing with DWade and Bosh is NOT OKAY!!
Brawny’s olympic teammates playing alongside him with CLE-MIA-LAL is rather extensive, LordBanana. Angry Old Hoops Fan on YT compiled the tedious list. You should check it out. Hard to imagine any other superstar teaming up with as many as Brawny has.
Whoa dude, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to cause you such anguish. I didn’t say LeBron was better then anyone else. I don’t really rate players and you can poke holes in anyone’s legacy. I just like watching players play the game. I merely was pointing out the absurdity of saying that Kobe humiliated LeBron, especially since the numbers say otherwise.
Reed Sheppard is going to be a stud. He brings shooting to the Rockets that they sorely need. His ball handling looked really good too. Along with the defense wow I was so impressed, I’m just drooling over a second unit of him, Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore, Tari Eason and Steven Adam’s
