JULY 21: The signing is official, according to the NBA transactions log.
JULY 20: The Nets are re-signing free agent shooting guard Keon Johnson to a standard contract, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link), Johnson is inking a two-season agreement with the Nets. The contract is partially guaranteed for 2024/25 and will have a team option for ’25/26.
Johnson has enjoyed an outstanding run throughout this year’s Las Vegas Summer League thus far. He’s averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game for Brooklyn this offseason.
The 6’5″ swingman was selected with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Tennessee. Johnson, then just 19, split his rookie season between the Clippers and Trail Blazers. He stayed with Portland for the 2022/23 season, but broke a finger midway through the year, cutting him off at just 40 games.
Johnson was shipped out to the Suns as part of the three-team deal that landed All-Star point guard Damian Lillard with the Bucks and was cut prior to the start of the 2023/24 season.
He ultimately landed with the Nets on a two-way deal last season, appearing in just five games for Brooklyn. Across those contests, Johnson averaged 6.2 points per contest on .381/.400/.917 shooting splits. He also chipped in 1.4 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.6 steals per night.
This South Sudan/USA game is a perfect representation of why basketball is such a beautiful sport. Bill Raftery continues to be the premier color analyst in the sport & the emergence of African basketball continues to be an amazing thing to watch. Team USA will be just fine as far as being the dominant team in the Olympic tournament but it seems pretty obvious that focusing on Steph & taking away his open 3s should be priority #1 for every team they play. I love Steph but he becomes a major negative for them whenever he’s not knocking down treys. Can’t fully express how disappointed I am that Bol Bol isn’t on this team smh, he would elevate the Bright Stars into medal contenders. But even without him they def could make it out of the group stage if Carlik Jones plays as well vs Puerto Rico as he did last summer in the World Cup… link to m.youtube.com
This guy LeBron is something else smh. Jordan was really great at age 39, so was Mailman but nobody has been nearly as great as Bron is at this age. Let’s also never forget that nobody was as great as age 18 either… link to m.youtube.com
Bad comparison…
Undefeated 6 time champion/mvp vs 6 time finals loser and the 4 he won, only 2 is he deserving of the credit for the championship and the mvp
HeatMike , you must be one of those people that believe it’s better to not make the finals than to make it to the finals and lose.
Both mean nothing, it doesnt matter making the finals and losing and it doesnt matter not making the finals. Only finals wins matter.
JT MONEY!!!!!
What a game. Definitely the game of the summer so far. Bron with the game winner as he’s done so many times before. Wenyen Gabriel might’ve gotten fouled on that last play but I’m glad there was no whistle.
This might get the Nets up to 12 wins this season
That would be great cause next year’s deaft is nice
