Now that Mikal Bridges has been dealt, which Nets player currently has the most trade value? Cameron Johnson could fit that description, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Johnson is entering the second year of a four-year, $94.5MM contract. Johnson averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season, despite battling numerous injuries. He’s a career 39.2% 3-point shooter and has good size for a wing.
The Kings, Magic and Lakers are among the teams who may have interest in the Nets sharpshooter, Lewis adds.
We have more from the New York teams:
- The Nets have hired Andre Barrett as a scout, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto tweets. Barrett worked four years for the league after a playing career in the NBA and a few foreign stops. He had been the scouting director for the now-defunct G League Ignite.
- Second-round pick Tyler Kolek is eager to learn from Knicks starting point guard Jalen Brunson, the rookie out of Marquette told The Athletic’s Fred Katz. “It’s just playing under control, picking angles, getting to the line,” Kolek said. “That’s a really big thing. (Brunson) does a great job at getting to the line. I really gotta learn that. In the NBA, it’s so different. … You can over-exaggerate things, just little tricks of the trade you can pick up from older guys.” Kolek averaged 9.6 points and 7.0 assists in 27.2 minutes per contest for the Knicks’ Summer League team.
- Despite the free agent addition of Cameron Payne, Kolek is currently viewed as the backup point guard ahead of Payne, according to Ian Begley of SNY TV. However, unless coach Tom Thibodeau goes with a 10-man rotation, Kolek may not get regular minutes. Miles McBride still projects to be in the rotation with Donte DiVincenzo and Josh Hart also coming off the bench.
- The main backup big for the Knicks is still a question mark but they remain in regular contact with one of their free agents, Precious Achiuwa, Begley writes. However, Achiuwa has drawn interest from several other teams.
Precious put your ego back. Sign that 1 year deal and prove yourself!
It might be the knicks holding things up.
If they lose Achiuwa, Dominic Varlow could be an interesting option there, and then they still need another big. I like my suggestions, but not sure how many roster spots they have after signing Cam Payne…
I didn’t even notice *Barlow
Cameron Johnson also is a nicer fit on GSW than GP2 is.
A solid backup could be Omer Yurtseven. Plays with high energy, rebounds well, still seems like he’s looking for a chance to prove himself in the league. Might thrive under Thibs
He’s selfish/can’t find happiness in the success of others…there are other bigs out there, like Jay Huff, Orlando Robinson, or Micah Potter that could also really help
Interesting, I didn’t know that about Yurtseven. I only know him from some sporadic appearances for the Heat. Nothing special, I just know that there is a certain type of on court energy that is demanded in a coach Thibs system. Micah Potter could be a good one
He complained about his role, when he had a broken ankle, and then talked $#!+ when he signed with Utah, about opportunities, when Utah had like 6 bigs, and then obviously he isn’t there anymore, so I just thought that was interesting
He can also be a little turnover prone in the post, and foul prone defensively
Yurtsevern rebounds well, D is a work in progress…no more than 12-15 minutes a game. Can score and rebound, played when Heat had injuries… watched him during his Heat career. REALLY ideally your 3rd center on roster… not a back up. Actually a liability on D, Jericho is much more athletic, but Jericho is not there for his scoring.
Yurtseven does fit the mold of someone that would fit around the options they have, and there is the connection there with Patrick Ewing, but I think those things I mentioned would make me want to look at those other guys instead
The issue with Precious is likely role more than $. NYK are likely willing to meet market value, which at this point is known. But for that $ he might want to know he’ll be in the 9 man. NYK are still looking at C’s and there is only room for one backup big to get regular minutes. He may not want to be Mitch insurance.
Knicks going to be seriously dangerous team next year.
Brunson Bridges OG Randle Robinson
McBride DiVancenzo Hart Precious
Seriously good defenders, mutiple scoring options, serious impact off the bench. They can go toe to toe with any team
Just need to stay healthy!
I want Achiuwa back. As Randles backup.
Knicks still need a second center. For two center system. I can live with that.
Knicks will address the Center position. I’m sure of it. IHart taught them that.
They need to sign Thibs. And just move on. Next yr is going to be special. …..
They really need a backup PF and C. Bates-Diop and Jeffries with Roku draft rights for a backup PF and C. Toppin should resign
