The Raptors have announced a series of signings, confirming in a pair of press releases that they’ve signed second-round picks Jonathan Mogbo and Jamal Shead to standard contracts and undrafted free agent Branden Carlson to a two-way deal. Those agreements were all previously reported.
The team also announced that it has signed first-round pick Ja’Kobe Walter to his rookie scale contract.
The 6’5″ Walter was one of the top recruits in the nation heading into college. He made an immediate impact with the Bears as a freshman in 2023/24, starting all 35 games he played and averaging 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 37.6% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range. He was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and earned third-team all-conference honors.
As the No. 19 pick in the draft, Walter figures to earn about $3.47MM salary as a rookie and $16.79MM across the entirety of his four-year contract. Those numbers assume he signed for 120% of the rookie scale amount, which almost every player does.
With Walter, Mogbo, and Shead all signed, the Raptors are up to 13 players on guaranteed standard contracts, with Immanuel Quickley and Garrett Temple expected to fill the 14th and 15th roster spots once their deals are official.
The team’s other draftee, No. 57 pick Ulrich Chomche, is considered likely to end up on a two-way deal, tweets Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca. However, the team is still waiting to officially acquire Chomche and can’t complete that signing yet.
Shead is a high character kid
Mogbo a PF at 6’6 ugh, no thanks. Only Rodman Draymond can do this.
Mogbo is a PF trapped in a SF’s body. He is a tweener. We need to start calling them what they are instead of saying they are a PF or C but being a midget for the position. ANY player from ANY era from the past could school these kids. Imagine Mogbo guarding Dirk. This era is the weakest ever.( Early 50’s is right there)
The league is as talented as its ever been and the need for stretch power forwards has grown. Like uhm??? what are you yapping about
When I see real defense or dribbling along with no flopping and obvious ref calling for certain reasons, etc etc then I will take you and the current NBA seriously. Like uhm??? Do you know anything about the history of the NBA and is the a new age casual fan who thinks what I see is the best
The game itself has been watered down over the last 20 years due to rule changes… Especially the defensive end…
The average NBA player is far better now than at any point in the sports history… The level of stars has also risen…
They just have a different rule set to adjust to…
You always spend this much time on stuff you have such disdain for? Why not do something you enjoy instead?
He has as long a reach as Missi a 7’. And a bigger wing span than Missi. At 250 lbs he’s as thick as any 4. You do understand. With that wingspan he plays like a 6’ 8” guy. And with his weight he is more athletic than most 4s. Bill Russell had a big wingspan. It’s what helped make him great against true seven footers. There’s a 50s guy for you. And Rodman was 6’ 8”.
Mogbo is more athletic than Dra. the reason both Dra and Rodman were so good. Was their IQ for the game. Something most fans don’t even understand today.
Russell was the late 50s not early 50s like I said. Bill Russell was 6’9 maybe 6’10.
Rodman was 6’7
I don’t care about wingspan. Overrated because they are not big enough. Taller with more wingspan is better.
Yes Rodman has great IQ for the game, Draymond is pretty smart about certain things.
Early 50s and late 50s is much different
Russell was late 50s not early 50s remember that
Yea we know. Trade Bruce Brown for Cam Johnson now.
I thought that Temple and Quickley would be the 15th and 16th guys on the roster?
Was referring to guaranteed contracts, so wasn’t including Javon Freeman-Liberty, but maybe he sticks if Vezenkov ends up getting waived or ends up in one of the two-way slots.
