The Warriors conducted their recruitment of Buddy Hield while the veteran sharpshooter was in Valencia, Spain, where he’s looking to secure an Olympic berth for the Bahamian national team. According to reporting from The Athletic, Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco – who is the head coach for the Bahamas – served as a “helpful ally” for Golden State’s front office in those recruiting efforts.
Hield’s decision to join the Warriors had been trending in that direction for a couple days before he made up his mind, per The Athletic. A late Wednesday call from Warriors head coach Steve Kerr helped seal the deal for Hield, who slept on it before finalizing his decision on Thursday.
As Anthony Slater of The Athletic writes within the same story, Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson are three veterans with varying skill sets who will help the Warriors solidify their rotation, but the club is still probably “a large move away from being considered any type of fringe contender.”
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- When the Warriors negotiated the Klay Thompson sign-and-trade with the Mavericks, they had the option of taking back Josh Green or another one of Dallas’ mid-sized contracts (likely Maxi Kleber), but they preferred to use the Thompson trade exception to go shopping in free agency for a player they liked more, sources tell Slater of The Athletic.
- While Anderson averaged 22.6 minutes per game during the regular season for Minnesota last season, his playing time declined to 15.4 MPG in the playoffs. Slater suggests that – as long as the Warriors’ roster is healthy – the forward’s playing time in Golden State may end up closer to that postseason average.
- Thompson took to Instagram on Friday to send a heartfelt farewell to Warriors fans and his longtime franchise. “Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about y’all,” he said as part of a longer statement. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day one. … Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out.”
- Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic takes a closer look at the legacy Thompson leaves behind in the Bay Area following his 13 years and four championships with the Warriors.
I could see there being some interesting lineups with Kyle Anderson being potentially used as a bigger guard, in certain matchups, like some teams were doing last year, with certain players/we might see more of next year
Moving on from Klay was necessary & picking up Melton, Slo-Mo & Buddy is pretty good work & prob the best they could’ve done to add to what they had. But seems like moving on from Steph now & getting a nice haul of assets back (starting with LaMelo or Amen) would be the move that would get them back to contender status the soonest. They could possibly be a playoff team with the team they have now but Id be highly surprised if they didn’t have to win a play in game or 2 to get there. And obv they’re only gonna get worse as the yrs go by bc of their top 2 guys being 35+yo. All that being said I def like their roster makeup more now than at any time since they lost Otto Porter Jr.
Lol again with the “trade Curry” nonsense. Curry is retiring a Warrior.
Your posts get dumber everytime.
Its so delusional, Steph lives so rent-free in these types minds, to the point where they won’t rest until Steph is no longer on GSW, but he is retiring as a 1-teamer, and possibly playing a LOT longer than people currently expect. We have never seen anyone like Steph before and we likely will not again, which means we actually can dream on him being elite until his early 40s. We just saw CP3 at 39, he was mid, but not awful, Steph might be even in better shape and form and still cooking at 39, 42, 45…??
I also like to bring up if GSW trades Wiggns, GP2, Looney for LaVine and Podz and 3 firsts for Lauri, they become a superteam again and will likely cook the West and even Boston.
Steph def lives rent free in my mind along w/ Cappie Pondexter, Joe Johnson, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Haley Jones & so many basketball legends but again I feel like youre giving in to your emotions on this one. Even if Steph is great at this same level for 5 more years (he won’t be but aye I’m not mad at you for dreaming big), the Ws still don’t have enough around him & look like they’re trending in the wrong direction. Draymond & Steph both aren’t gonna stay elite forever, let’s please don’t dream that big. I love Zach & Lauri, I been big fans of both those guys since I 1st saw them. Both very skilled scorers but I honestly don’t trust either guy to be the #2 guy on a title winning team & giving up Wiggins to get LaVine is a lil crazy to me.
Steph shouldn’t have to be leaned on as the #1 scoring option as a guard in his late 30s, no matter how great he is. He’s def different but I mean we saw what happened these past few seasons without a legit all-star as that #2 guy once Klay wasn’t at that level any longer. I understand it’s not easy to admit that the party’s over but it definitely is over. The fact that Steph is still so great & hasn’t shown any signs of slowing means that he’ll still get you a strong return that you can add to the group that you currently have. These guys, JK/Podz/Moody/Trayce arent ready to be Steph’s main support but they do match LaMelo’s/Amen’s timeline… link to m.youtube.com
“these guys, JK/Podz/Moody/Trayce arent ready to be Steph’s main support” lmao, just give it up man, you are basically saying “this whole team isn’t ready for 1 guy’s window I am arbitrarily closing because I am sick of GSW and Chef Curry cooking my team”
Let me let you in on something: JK/Podz/Moody/Trayce already have adjusted to Curry and 2 of them already won a ring alongside him! You seem to just want GSW to be bad more than anything, even if it does not line up with reality. GSW has a great team in place right now and its ready to win long term as long as Curry is elite – this is a fact. Klay had to go because he fell off and stopped playing defense and to win again, we need a stronger core of rotation players who are good at D instead. GSW has a better lineup right now than last year, and you want to “tear down” a team with a young core already there. Makes no sense man. This is pure cope.
You think GSW gonna win a title with those guys as Steph’s main support? I mean be rational. I couldn’t care less how well the Ws do next season. If my personal feelings shade my opinion at all it’s from a standpoint of wanting to see them be interesting again. And I definitely don’t wanna tear down the young core at all. I’m proposing the opposite of that. A shakeup consisting of them shipping out their elder sportsmen, Steph & Dray would make the team more interesting & more importantly set them up for success in the near future. What we’re seeing from them now is clearly slow decline & that’s not much fun at all.
Calling this a great team is what I would call pure cope lol. I mean you saw the play-in game just like I did. It wasn’t just Klay. That was a beat down. Buddy Hield & Slo-Mo aren’t gonna change what we saw there.
If warriors were trading Curry to the Hornets it would start with Miller and Martin, this year’s 1st round pick and 3 more unprotected picks and 5 2nd round picks, Sounds about fair.
@arc89 even that is a severe underpay by Charlotte, GSW getting robbed senseless in that deal.
Sankara, literally this happened:
Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Lester Quinones, Dario Saric and Jerome Robinson
for
Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III and Reece Beekman + Quentin Post
Everyone else stays. This is a GREATLY improved team, and if they want to “thin the herd” well, LaVine’s salary matches up perfectly with Wiggins+GP2+Looney, and national beat writers are saying Podz and 3 firsts are on the table for Lauri. If those two long shot moves happen, then GSW is easily the best team in the whole league top to bottom, a “superteam” if you will…why would they trade Steph? It defies all logic and is just pure cope and wishing from you, but it has absolutely zero background support on any logical level. Let it go, you will feel better. Steph is retiring a 1-teamer.
Also: Steph is not moving away from his home in Atherton, CA, the richest rich person suburb in the USA for…Charlotte.
Also: Ok so say GSW does what you say, Charlottle stinks and isnt winning anything anytime soon. Why would Curry allow this?
Just a really bad opinion by you, sorry, its just wild how you used the word “emotional” when its you who is crying that Curry HAS to leave a fully-loaded with talent squad at GSW…the party is 100% not over, you said this in 2021 and were wrong then, and you are wrong now. Bad take.
When CA decides to start taxing peoples bank accounts and investments each year (and we all know that’s what they want to do so don’t bother pretending otherwise) Curry will flee CA along with every other rich person. Atherton is beautiful and a very nice suburb, but when Curry is no longer playing, my money is on his joining Lebron to own a franchise, and he will move wherever that is located.
Curry is absolutely not leaving the warriors. He’s already won 4 rings and has been on contending teams for most of his career. He knows very well how rare that is and isn’t trying to join some other team just to ring chase. He’s already one of the greatest players of all time, staying with the warriors gives him a leg up on a lot of the other “legends” who bounced to whatever team had a shot.
He’s already on the record saying that he’d wanna play in Charlotte if/when he ever left the Bay.
This is probably gonna be tough for you to hear but GSW don’t have anybody like Brandon Miller on their team. I can just tell from your vibes that you prob don’t realize how good Miller is but he’s the type of 2nd scorer that GSW doesn’t have and will need to go (back) to that next level in the West. Outside of Miller Charlotte def has work to do to become a contender but they got some really nice role players, some of which (GWilliams & Josh Green) have even more postseason exp than GSW’s role players.
But yea the Ws teams that won titles were fully loaded with talent. This one not so much.
Pure cope from you. I don’t know you but I’m guessing you are from Charlotte and have lusted after Steph ever since he blew up in the league. I’m from Oakland, so I felt the same about Dame Lillard for a long time. Let it go. It’s never happening. You are the delusional one here, not me.
If you have followed Charlotte your whole life then you don’t even know what a title-winning team looks like in real time. I know both sides, you are just coming off so coping here. I was this way before Curry came to my team.
Also literally every professional athlete says they would play in any city, because they are professionals and accept payment from any team in the league. The amount of guys who would “never” play in a certain USA city is minuscule. Let that empty promise go, it means nothing. Steph said that knowing he is never leaving the Warriors.
How is your mental going to be when Curry and GSW win more rings? I’m concerned for you. I mean if it’s THIS bad already….
Roster is too deep. It needs a huge trade. Trade 5 for 1
Kuminga, Moody, Pods, Davis and Santos don’t make money. — 5 players don’t make money (Raptors Scottie Barnes make $270 million)
Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson are three veterans with varying skill sets who will help the Warriors solidify their rotation
Too deep? They are going back to strength in numbers, which was always the most fun version of the warriors. Mix and match and based on who they’re playing. And, they are still trying to trade 2-3 guys for the Fin.
Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Lester Quinones, Dario Saric and Jerome Robinson
for
Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III and Reece Beekman
+ Quentin Post
+ Draymond Green for a full year
+ (maybe) Andrew Wiggins for a full year
Then the potential to trade Wiggins, GP2 and Looney for LaVine and Podziemski and 3 firsts for Lauri means GSW really has had an excellent offseason so far.
Thompson leaving the Warriors is like Belt leaving the Giants; probably needed to happen but hurts a ton
Also a bit like Will Clark leaving the Giants in that the circumstances of his departure for the Metroplex are steeped in rumors of disloyalty, broken promises & regret.. link to m.youtube.com
