1:55pm: The Hield acquisition will indeed be part of a five-team mega-trade involving Golden State, Dallas, Charlotte, Minnesota and Philadelphia, sources tell Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter link).
1:19pm: The Warriors are acquiring Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade with the Sixers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium (Twitter link).
Golden State will be sending Philadelphia a 2031 second-round pick (via Dallas) as part of the transaction, sources tell Charania (Twitter link).
The second-rounder being sent to the 76ers is being acquired as part of the Klay Thompson sign-and-trade with the Mavs. That suggests the series of moves could still be folded together into one multi-team mega-deal.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link), Hield will receive a four-year contract that will pay him a guaranteed $18MM over the first two seasons. The deal will reportedly feature an additional $3MM in guaranteed money, with a fourth-year player option that’s not fully guaranteed. It will start at $8.7MM in year one, per The Athletic, which suggests the total value will be over $37MM, assuming 5% annual raises.
Charania reported on Tuesday night that the Warriors were pursuing Hield, and now a sign-and-trade agreement has come to fruition.
In 2023/24, Hield appeared in a league-high 84 regular season games, exceeding the typical 82-game limit as a result of a midseason trade that sent him from Indiana to Philadelphia. He averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 25.7 minutes per game for the Pacers and Sixers, with a .386 3PT%.
Hield, 31, has never been known for his defense, but he’s a top-tier floor spacer, with a career mark of 40.0% from long distance (on high volume). He ranked No. 24 on our list of 2024’s top 50 free agents.
The Warriors have been very busy this offseason, agreeing to sign De’Anthony Melton to a one-year deal and to acquire both Kyle Anderson and Hield in the wake of Thompson’s departure.
Hield is currently competing for his home country, the Bahamas, in an Olympic qualifying tournament in Spain. If the team wins the tournament (it has already advanced to the semifinal), the Bahamas would advance to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, which begin at the end of July.
Cap expert Yossi Gozlan projects the Warriors, who are hard-capped at the first tax apron, to be right near that salary threshold ($178.1MM) with 14 players under contract (Twitter link).
The Sixers won’t create a trade exception as part of the transaction, since they’re operating under the cap.
Nice. Sixers recouping a SRP.
It’s good to see the Warriors finally land shooting
Does anyone know how much cash Warriors sent to Wolves for Anderson?
Warriors need cash to send out 21 years old Moody?
Each team can only send $7 million cash
Moody played great in NBA Finals
Except Moody barely played in the NBA Finals, averaging 0.5 ppg in 2.7 min/gm (He took and made 1 shot in 4 games, with 0 reb 0 ast 0 stl and 1 blk for the Finals series)
“Buddy for nothing and a chip for free”
More like Buddy for nothing and a possible play in game.
There in case Steph gets hurt; potentially useful in certain lineups as a scorer/shooter (like a Jordan poole type role, but with less opportunities…good depth option
Splash brother acquired
Splash Buddy
I been saying for about a yr now… Bahamas are getting a medal at these Olympics. Led by Buddy, Ayton & VJ Edgecombe they’re cruising thru this Spain OQT & they’ll be even better in Paris bc AJ Storr will be back with them. If they can add a guy like Kai Jones that would be even better. Buddy can def parlay this FIBA success into the NBA reg season too, esp his newfound passing acumen. Sucks that Ws legend Klay Thompson couldn’t be apart of it.
No
USA, Canada, France
Medal is a bit extreme
What else could Dunlevy do but use Thompson and CP3 exiting contracts into 3 quality NBA players. People that do not like MD doesn’t understand how the new CBA handicaps teams.
Basically
Trade Klay $50 million contract for Anderson and Hield $48 million total
Make Warriors Young again
Then trade Chris Paul 11 million for Melton $13 million
14 man depth is too much
Trade Kuminga, Pod, Moody, Santo and 2 Firsts for Lauri
CP3 was $30 million if they didn’t trade him. That is why he was released. They couldn’t offer him a lower contract under the CBA.
This is not true. His contract was not guaranteed, so they could have guaranteed any amount up to the $30m. They didn’t because they need to be under the apron to make moves.
Warriors clearly adding a variety of skill sets, would expect to see lots of mix and matching based on matchup/opponent. They’ve gotten guys who can shoot as well as Klay (2024 Klay, anyways) and guys who are better defenders, they just aren’t all one person.
Add Melton to that because by both leaving the warriors they were able to spend more on their MLE to bring him into the fold.
arc89 who ya got in 2025 in a 5 on 5:
Saric-Thompson-Quinones-Robinson-Paul
vs
Anderson-Melton-Waters III-Hield-Beekman
I like this offseason a lot, if we actually can do what that article said and give up Podz and all our firsts for Lauri, we become a legit scary team who actually can win it all next year if we have no significant injuries.
If the young guys take the next step there is no reason to say they can not contend for a playoff spot. Only teams that did a big improvement is OKC and NO in the west. So if you go with the top 4 teams OKC, T-W, NO, and Nuggets. The next 6 spots is up for the grabs. None of the other teams can say they are much better than Warriors.
Now this is a solid pickup indeed for my Warriors.
Good move.
Sorry Utah – one more trading partner gone
Actually this does nothing for a possible trade … it can still happen. Might be easier now to offload Moody, etc.
Podz, its Podz who is on the table. Moody doesnt make sense for GSW or any other contender. Podz and Moody are similar value but much different players, Moody has shown high level NBA defense and has already had a 30+ game in his career, he’s both a better defender and scorer than Podz, who is good, but would be best as a starting PG on a rebuilding team, not on the one with Steph Curry the GOAT on it!
Correction “It doesnt make sense for GSW to trade Moody to another contender” is what I meant
Buddy couldn’t hit the side of a barn in Philly. Hopefully for the dubs sake it was just a hiccup. Players alot better than heild melted under pressure in Philly. Good luck to him.
Career FG% is 43%. With Philadelphia it was 43%. Career 3 pt % is 40%. With Philadelphia it was 39%. Same barn for career and in Philadelphia, King?
I only know what I saw with my eyes Nas. Buddy is a great guy,but he couldn’t or wouldn’t launch when needed in Philly. Joel embiid needs shooters around him,who are not afraid to shoot. Buddy fell short.
Who needs stats when the eyes have it?
My eyes watched every sixers game with and without buddy heild. He was useless most the time . Nick benched him. His eyes didn’t lie.
Warriors Solid under the radar, pick up of 3 NBA veterans… perfect mix and match for Kerr’s system. Klay’s time in GS finally reached an expiration date… It was time for both sides to part. 4 championships were accomplished!
yep. And any or all of these new acquisitions, plus others, could be involved in a future trade(s). they all have desirable contracts for GMs. But I like these players as is for the Ws! But there’s now a backcourt log jam. Something’s gotta give.
This new sign and trade crap is out of hand now. Silver ruined the NBA
I love the Warriors offseason, and if they can now finish it off by trading 3 firsts and Podz for Lauri, then extending Lauri, the window goes from “starting to close” back to being WIDE open again!
BTW I definitely called GSW getting involved in a multi-team mega trade…loves to see it!!
These obviously aren’t exact swaps, but more the positional/depth spot changes:
Klay Thompson -> Buddy Hield
Dario Saric -> Kyle Anderson
Chris Paul -> D’Anthony Melton
Lester Quinones -> Lindy Waters III
Jerome Robinson -> Reece Beekman (2-way spot)
+ full seasons from Draymond Green and potentially Andrew Wiggins
= this is a team that has improved from last year, my friends!
Great team…on paper
yep, the Ws are better now than last year–and younger. Of course, the log jam of new pieces indicates that some may be part of a future trade. All of the new guys have attractive contracts. Podz isn’t going to be traded. He IS the point guard for this team after Steph. His shooting is going to improve this season.
“after Steph” Steph says he wants to play to 45-50. Podz doesn’t fit this timeline, Steph is too elite still. I get why people like Podz’s game but he just isnt a fit with Steph and Dray. If he were 6’8″ with good wingspan I would be right there with you. But he’s “6’5” and plays much smaller.
3 X 76ers = either they are doing something wrong in Philly or something right in Philly. Good luck you guys.
2 x 76ers. If Embiid was 100% healthy they would have gone further in the playoffs.
Saric and Heild and Melton are X sixers either the sixers are doing something…. Get the gist of the comment ? Is 89 your IQ. Or is that your age and senility has set in.
Saric is gone. Maybe he can sign back with 76ers. Saric was a sun’s player. Why are you being a fool about it. Grow up
I like Anderson and Melton, but not seeing any particular GSW fit. Best available maybe. I don’t like Hield and I don’t see a fit.
