The Sixers will have a different look after a summer spending spree, prompting The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Gina Mizell to project how the rotation will shake out.
Mizell anticipates the Sixers will go with a different type of starting lineup, with forward Caleb Martin replacing guard Kyle Lowry, leaving Tyrese Maxey at the point. In that scenario, Eric Gordon, Jared McCain and Reggie Jackson would compete for reserve minutes in the backcourt, while KJ Martin, Ricky Council IV and Guerschon Yabusele would fight for playing time vacated by Nicolas Batum. Andre Drummond will slot in as Joel Embiid‘s backup.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Yabusele signed a one-year contract with the Sixers after his strong showing in the Paris Olympics for France. He hasn’t played in the NBA since 2019. “Not a lot of people have a chance of second shots in the NBA,” Yabusele told Mizell. “So when the opportunity comes, you don’t think twice. … I feel like I just wanted to better myself and [say], ‘Let’s try.’ I feel like if you don’t come back in the NBA, then you play your whole career and you be like, ‘If, if, if …’”
- Don’t expect Lonnie Walker IV to make the Celtics’ opening-night roster, according to Brian Robb of Masslive.com. The veteran wing was signed to a training camp deal and there are financial incentives for the Celtics to leave him off the roster, since it would cost the team millions more in luxury tax penalties to retain him. Robb pegs Walker’s chances of sticking on the 15-man roster to start the season at 30 percent.
- How could the Knicks’ season be derailed? Stefan Bondy of the New York Post explores a few possible pitfalls for the team to navigate, including the overload of wings on the roster, Julius Randle not receiving an extension, and injuries.
KP had surgery on 6-27-24. They said he’d be back in 5-6 months. ?????? So what does this mean
We want to know when he will play. When will he be in game shape. Will he be the same. The injuries are starting to pile up …….
There is absolutely no way Celtics repeat without KP in lineup. Not because he’s so great. Because he gives them another big. A different look big. Another solid player in the rotation. And let’s face it. He fit in nicely with this team. Deeper is better for every team. Not every team makes it work. Celtics made it work.
Not beating Knicks or Sixers without KP.
So yes I’d be looking at this all season.
5-6 months ……. I doubt it.
lol they just won it all with him barely playing in the entire playoff run
But they wouldn’t have won without him.
Horford, Tillman, Kornet, and Queta will do just fine. If I were a Knicks fan, I’d worry about Thibs having to play Glass Mitch 40 minutes a game.
Yes, I’m sure everything will go just as you predict…
Tillman? Queta ? Pass the Doobie
Give up on two young guys? Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard were dubbed “no chances” as well. I trust in Stevens.
If the Knicks can find a way to acquire AD?
BLinn got reply’s. Yet he mutes me.
Like Thibs don’t know who he has. Like I said KP not there. Those 4 do nothing to replace him. Not for the yr or playoffs. But why would you know that.
Grow some and use your real handle. You need to hide to talk to me…….
“How could the Knicks’ season be derailed? Stefan Bondy of the New York Post explores what might lead to issues”
Good thing we have the hack, Stefan Bondy, to try and come up with reasons why the Knicks won’t win. I guess he learned from his father.
I read Kristaps rare injury takes a year, not just 6 months to recover from, so we’re not planning on him playing for a good long while but I can’t agree that Celtics can’t be good or even win without him. That has been KnickerbockerAl’s theme ever since KP got hurt. He’s stressed that so many times and that the Knicks are “coming for us” over and over it sounds more like hope than logic. Maybe Al will prove right. We’ll just have to wait and see but pounding the table about it sounds a bit desperate. Go Celtics!
I hate the Celtics and don’t particularly like the Knicks, but from a b ball fan standpoint both teams are fun to watch. Your celts are the clear cut favorite with or without KP, but the Knicks are a legit threat. Knicks and OKC are both right there with a few other teams not to far back. Should be fun to watch it unfold
The Knicks maybe “coming for us” but I only view that from a regular season standpoint, not the playoffs. That team’s style of playing all out, while fun to watch as a fan, it usually leads to injuries like we just saw in the playoffs from them.
They had four players that all got hurt in rounds 1&2 plus they already had Robinson & Randle down for the remainder of the season. All of that attrition on their overall health and they couldn’t even make it to the halfway point of reaching the Finals at 8 wins.
Between Thibs tendency to play his players into the ground and the actual style of play that makes some of his players great, those two combined are likely going to be NY’s recipe for disaster at the worst possible time. Again.
Why not have the starting 5 as Maxey, Oubre, PG, Yabusele & Embiid?
Sounds interesting. Try it. Almost the whole NBA with so many players changing teams has to start off the season trying to find the right mixes. Hey, that might give the Celtics an early edge.
