As we detailed in a separate article, players who signed new contracts as free agents during the 2024/25 league year can’t be traded for three months or until December 15, whichever comes later. That means that nearly every team has at least one player – and often more than one – who won’t become trade-eligible until mid-December.
There’s also a small subset of free agent signees whose trade ineligibility lasts for an extra month. These players all meet a specific set of criteria: Not only did they re-sign with their previous team this offseason, but they got a raise of at least 20%, their salary is worth more than the minimum, and their team was over the cap, using Bird or Early Bird rights to sign them.
Listed below are the players who meet this criteria and can’t be traded until at least January 15, 2025. We’ll continue to update this page over the next few months, if necessary.
I really like Achiuwa as a backup big. He’s been excellent for Knicks at this. As Randles backup last yr. Stepped in and was a double double. With solid D.
Can also play with Randle as a 5. Depth is a strong weapon.
Jericho Sims is the guy we need to show. He’s a Thibs kind of guy. Works hard. I’m rooting he can be solid. Knicks can do C with depth …… That’s Thibs way.

The news about Sims losing his last two offseasons has me hopeful that we’ll see real improvement this season. I’m coming around to your perspective. Between Sims and Precious, we might have enough. I’d like to see Damian Jones signed as the 15th man so that we have another true 5 who can play when (not if, sadly) Mitch goes down, but maybe they think Hukporti will be able to contribute.
Jones is about to sign overseas. They do need one more center though. What about Toppin. Is he going to sign that or what. I believe he will use his rookies this year.
Do they need a floor spacing big or something else?
