6:33pm: Curry has signed the extension, the team’s PR department announced (via Twitter).
11:28am: Two-time MVP Stephen Curry has agreed to a one-year, $62.6MM extension with the Warriors, agent Jeff Austin tells Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link).
Curry was limited to a one-year extension due to the Over-38 rule. He was already under contract for the next two seasons, with salaries of $55.8MM in 2024/25 and $59.6MM in 2025/26. His new extension will cover the 2026/27 campaign, meaning he won’t hit free agency until 2027.
Curry’s salary on the one-year extension won’t be affected by where the ’26/27 cap lands, since he’ll be eligible for a 5% raise on his previous salary, even though that figure will exceed that season’s league-wide maximum.
Widely regarded as the greatest shooter in basketball history, Curry holds career averages of 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.5 steals on .473/.426/.910 shooting in 956 regular season games (34.2 minutes per contest). The 10-time All-NBA guard, who has won four championships and made six NBA Finals appearances, has spent his entire 15-year career with Golden State.
The Warriors had an up-and-down season in ’23/24. They went 46-36 and were eliminated in the play-in tournament by the Kings. The 36-year-old still performed at a very high level though, averaging 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists on .450/.408/.923 shooting in 74 regular season games (32.7 minutes). Curry earned an All-NBA Third Team nod for his efforts.
Curry is coming off a star showing at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, when he was dominant in both the semifinal (vs. Serbia) and final (vs. France) en route to his first gold medal with Team USA. He had struggled for much of the tournament leading up to those games, but obviously stepped up in a major way when he was needed most.
As ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets, Curry will surpass $500MM+ in career on-court earnings with the new extension, joining LeBron James and Kevin Durant as the only players to reach that threshold.
Curry, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., and owner Joe Lacob have all expressed a desire for the 6’2″ guard to remain with the Warriors for the rest of his illustrious career. The extension agreement has both sides one step closer to achieving that goal.
I guess money does grow on threes.
The big bucks…
Lines up with Draymond’s last year now, assuming Green exercises the player option.
Good for him. He’s won enough and doesn’t care anymore. He’s chasing dollars no more rings to take a discount for the better of the team.
Making statements about an athletes drive to win because he takes the max amount of money is highly insulting to one of the greatest players/ competitors of this generation.
The Warriors were valued at like 600 million before Steph went there, now there are the kost valuable team in the nba and one of the most valuable in the world. He deserves a whole lot more and that has nothing to do with his desire to win or not.
I think they are valued at north of $8 billion now which is crazy considering where they were like 10 years ago.
Yes sir …… now they are worth 7.7 billion.
Steph played a major part in this.
mlbnyyfan you really don’t know what you’re talking about. Steph could make way more money by NOT playing. He’s not chasing dollars now cuz he doesn’t care about the team… that’s so far off base it’s not funny.
He’s probably using his basketball salary to help pay his taxes. He can make 50 million on a real estate deal or a sneaker deal. Seriously, you know Michael Jordan made a gazillion more dollars AFTER basketball than during basketball?
Don’t tell us Steph is now chasing dollars instead of being a good teammate and taking a discount. You have no clue.
You’re forgetting so quickly that the owner is willing to pay Steph whatever he wants and use the proceeds from the team to put back into the team for salaries and tax. Joe Lacob doesn’t need Warrior money to finance his lifestyle.
My goodness your comment might be the worst ever. Disparaging Steph’s character and intentions when he’s been nothing but an upright dude his entire career..
You tell him, Gary! And, I’ll second you on that being a candidate for the worst comment ever.
He gave them 4 for 44 million to start his career earning post rookie deal. He can do no wrong.
If they could have I guarantee they would have added more years
Assuming?
Green ain’t getting another contract that comes close to what he’s getting now…
That option is getting picked up…
Underpaid honestly, if you think about all the highest rated NBA games every year…Steph brings fans in like no one else.
Has anyone watched his sitcom on Peacock? Is it any good
Guess that’s a no lol
Fun fact! $62.6MM yearly is $171,506 and a few cents every single day for a year!
Nike’s CEO John Donahoe makes $33 mill and doesn’t even ball!
The Chef will likely be cooking in the bay for the remainder of his career! The greatest player of his era, playing for ONE team and one team ONLY – how it’s supposed to be, you guys; especially among the greatest ballers to ever lace them up.
Curry, Bryant, Duncan, Nowitzki…the vibes are similar…
It really would be a shame to ever see him in another team’s jersey especially for a guy that made a living knocking down threes from out by the Warriors logo. Hopefully it never comes to that.
erikthredd , is your real name Kendrick Perkins? Or are you just channeling him?
Why, did he say something similar lol? That’s too funny if he did and purely just coincidental.
It’s called “hate us cause you ain’t us”.
Perkins has been the #1 Warriors hater/baiter for a few years, which was how I took your post :-)
Recently on ESPN he’s been saying that Steph would end up in LA to play with LeBron, and also that Steph wasn’t going to extend.
He’s also famous for giving Dubs “zero” chance of winning in 2022, and, saying that Warriors dynasty was bad for basketball.
I always wait to hear Perkins complain about warriors. Perkins is a big LeBron and Celtics homer fan. Yes 2022 was fun watching him eat his own words when the warriors beat his favorite team.
Perkins has taken his ESPN scripted role and ran with it. Dudes always raging on Boston. Hence, not welcome at any functions etc. Celtics have washed their hands with that guy. Was one of the main Tatum and Brown can’t play together guys on all of TV. Rubbished them and Tatum every chance he got last season too. Was all over the Mavs and Wolves. He’s as sharp as a beach ball.
Aristotle, my comment above had zero relevance to any of that or to something Perk has ever said (that I know of.)
To clarify what I was trying to say there is, When I think of Steph Curry I think of him hitting deep threes in big playoffs games and he was draining those threes from out by the Warriors Logo at halfcourt.
I’ll admit that up until posting that comment (and since doing a google search) I’ve always assumed that the bridge in the Dubs logo was the Golden Gate bridge. Apparently its not, its the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
All I was saying there is that I find Steph’s play synonymous with that logo on his jersey. To ever seeing him wearing a different one would be a shame. That’s all.
Kendrick Perkins is a meathead of the highest order and Boston disowned that fool many years ago lol.
To add to these two parts…
“Recently on ESPN he’s been saying that Steph would end up in LA to play with LeBron, and also that Steph wasn’t going to extend.”
If that marriage were to ever happen on an NBA court for an entire season it would probably have a better chance of happening with the Warriors, not the Lakers imo.
“He’s also famous for giving Dubs “zero” chance of winning in 2022, and, saying that Warriors dynasty was bad for basketball.”
As to the first part, similar things are said every year going into the Finals. Just look at the overwhelming amount of predictions favoring Dallas over Boston not too long ago.
As for the dynasty part, Perkins thoughts on that are pure hogwash.
ericthredd, I took your post as a playful attempt to wind up the locals…which I expect and never take offense to!
Boston can’t disown Big Perk because he tells the nation daily that he’s a Celtic till he dies. That ring is his bona fides. Isn’t Perk still on the announcer crew for the local NBC broadcast?
Prior to contrary belief around here I really don’t hate the Dubs at all. Now, attempting to wind up the locals? Guilty but its been more like “local” lol and I’m honestly going to start working on not continuing to do that any longer.
As for Perk, I can’t answer to any of that. The only time that I ever watch anything ESPN related is either when they’re airing a Celtics game or there’s a playoffs game. I don’t really ever pay any attention to what he has to say.
IIRC, there was an issue after the C’s won the Finals and Perk wasn’t invited to the celebration or maybe the parade? Something like that which made the news cycle around here for some reason. I think that the complaint was that other former Celtics players were invited but he wasn’t lol. That’s social media for ya lol.
Perk has found the formula that works so well for Draymond: any publicity is good publicity. They both say so much stupid s**t, and nobody seems to hold it against them.
I’m calling BS on you not hating the Dubs. But your posts are great, regardless.
Most athletes trying to make the switch into media tend to share the dumbest hot takes to gain attention. I remember JJ Redick doing the same somewhat early in his podcasting career with Bird, Cousy & Russell.
As for calling BS on me in part two, that 52pt ass whooping in their last meeting in Boston and the C’s then winning the Finals healed all wounds for me, GS-wise.
eriktheredd , I can appreciate how hard the last decade has been for Celtics fans, so thank goodness for small favors.
We assume your frequent visits to DubNation are due to it being so humble in our success. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
aristotle, my frequent visits to DubNation have more to do with there really isn’t much else going on in the NBA right now to talk about. Most of the recent articles on this site don’t get much activity in the comment section, the ones about the Warriors usually do. Many times it has less to do with the content of that article and more to do with the “locals” lol.
ericthredd , IMO, there has never been a natural rivalry between Celts and Dubs, the 2022 Finals notwithstanding, so (most) folks here aren’t inclined to engage. (As for the Lakers, another time…)
IMO, Celtics are clearly best org in NBA right now. Stephens has made all the right roster development moves and, as important, showed true leadership in handling the potentially disastrous Udoka situation, and then sticking with Mazzula after the Miami meltdown. And Mazzula is impressive. By contrast, the Warriors coach and front office have repeatedly shown poor leadership in handling Green, and it’s cost them dearly.
lol, winning a meaningless game somehow erases losing the finals? Homer.
HM, I’ve been watching the NBA since the mid 70’s and that Warriors loss in Boston was the worst beatdown that I can ever remember. You may call that game meaningless but some of the longer tenured C’s players exorcised some demons that day.
And to actually answer your question, No, winning a meaningless midseason game does not somehow erase losing the 2022 Finals, actually winning the 2024 Finals does. Celtics fans no longer give two craps about 2022 anymore bro lol.
The thing about the 2022 Finals, Kerr doesn’t understand how it happened. The Warriors sucked that year.
Giants74 , Kerr, Myers, and Lakob all said they didn’t EXPECT to win that year. But, you don’t suck when you lose only 6 games in 4 playoff series. And, unlike the Celtics winning this year, the 2022 Chip was deserved. Denver, Memphis, Dallas, and Boston were the league’s best.
It was meant to be a bounce-back year, with Klay returning in mid-season, with 21 yr old Poole growing up, and with 3 youngsters (Wiseman, Kuminga, and Moody) getting minutes. Steph and Dray both missed > 25 games.
Unexpected:
– Poole playing like All-Star in Steph’s place,
– GPII playing spectacularly.
– Otto Porter fitting perfectly.
Aristotle “But, you don’t suck when you lose only 6 games in 4 playoff series. And, unlike the Celtics winning this year, the 2022 Chip was deserved. Denver, Memphis, Dallas, and Boston were the league’s best.”
GS deserved their championship for that run in 2022 but Boston didn’t in 2024? Are you trying to say that Butler,Mitchell & Haliburton all missing playing time somehow diminishes the C’s chip? That’s usually the reasoning behind someone calling out how easy Boston had it these playoffs, how about we actually compare those two Finals championships and the actual path each team took?
2021-22 Warriors run:
Nuggets – Neither Jamal Murray or Michael Porter Jr played a single second in that series.
Grizzlies – Ja Morant sits out 3 of the 6 games in that series.
Mavs – No notable injuries
Celtics – No notable injuries
2023-24 Boston’s run:
Heat – Butler sat out the 5 game series.
Cavs – Mitchell missed 3 of 5 games/Jarrett Allen sat all 5 games.
Pacers – Haliburton sat 2 of 4 games
Mavs -No notable injuries.
So add up all of the games lost by star players over both years and this is what we get.
Murray/PorterJr/Ja 13 games lost to injury
Butler/Mitchell/Allen/Haliburton 14 games lost to injury
Looks like both teams clearly benefited from opposing star players missing games due to injury. or did I entirely misread your “deserved their chip” reference above lol?
No one’s here trying to disparage that Warriors championship like it was somehow more meaningless, they definitely earned that title in every way, shape and form. My comment above about Boston fans not caring about losing that year simple means we don’t and the only time that you’ll see most of even talking about that series is just with Dubs fans. 2022 was your moment as fans, 2024 is ours and we’re honestly not looking that far back when the C’s literally won their Finals a little over 2 months ago, at least I’m not. I’m still rocking the 18th banner avatar over on the left, its too soon bro lol.
Correction above: Donovan Mitchell missed just 2 of the 5 game series. Boston’s total is still the same at 14 compared to GS at 13.
Both teams got pretty lucky with those opposing injuries. I know that Porzingis alone missed 12 playoffs games and came close to matching Butler/Mitchell/Allen/Haliburton at 14 all by himself. Maybe GS dealt with something similar with their big three missed time in the playoffs?
Finals winning teams need luck like that, from their own perspective and with opposing players going down. Any team that can win the war of attrition like that and still beat the best team coming out of the opposing conference absolutely deserved their chip.
erikthredd , respectfully, I won’t engage with you on this one because the point has been made so strongly and often in the national media: No team in NBA history had an easier run than the less-than- mediocre and star-less Miami, Cleveland, and Pacers teams.
The same media that mostly all picked Dallas over Boston? Or how Boston wouldn’t be able to shutdown Luka & Kyrie both?
The same media that kept telling us how the Jays can’t play together? Or how Jaylen Brown is no good because he can’t go left?
You do you bro and stick with that media, you know, the same ones that are currently predicting your Dubs demise lol.
Spoken like a true Celtics fan. I’ll rest my case knowing it’s a concunsus for the rest of the world. Least impressive opposition in NBA history.
“Spoken like a true Celtics fan.”
Aristotle, I’ve honestly enjoyed interacting with you here and I’m honestly a little disappointed because I thought you were more rational than these other GS guys here. Am I off there?
I’ll end this back & forth between us by just pointing out you entered this actual sub thread that we’re currently in by calling out that very same national media, insinuating how far off their Dubs predictions will be. Now you’re lower down in this very same thread pointing at the national media to help support your argument.
You do realize that the national media literally creates content to talk about on a daily basis out of thin air, Right?
Guys like Perk with his Dubs thoughts, Stephen A who also thinks the Warriors time is done, Mike Greenberg who literally created a discussion about Jayson Tatum not smiling enough when Brown was named ECFMVP lol. Then there was that other idiot who made a big deal about Tatum’s mother defending him at one point. That’s your national media lol.
If someone at your age, whose been watching the game for so long, can’t see how hard it actually is for any NBA team to win the Finals, let alone Boston or GS in those two years, then we apparently don’t need to prolong this debate. Take care.
I referenced the national media not because they are always right, but because everyone has heard it explain why the Celtics championship wasn’t impressive, and nobody needs me to repeat it.
I didn’t say the Celtics weren’t a great team. They are. I merely repeated what everyone knows: the Heat, Cavs, and Pacers all had so many injuries that the series were basically meaningless. Those teams were not playoff-worthy as a consequence. The Mavs posed the least challenge of any opposition in the NBA finals since 2004, according to oddsmakers.
I’ll add insight from my own experience: from a bettor point of view, going back to the first season (in the 1990’s) where 16 playoff wins were required, no team has faced weaker opposition over those 16 wins as the Celtics did this year. Again, that was because injuries made the opposition non-competitive.
(BTW, your analysis of the 2022 Warriors run was flawed. Denver, which won 48 games that year, missed Murray for the entire season and Porter for all but 8 games. Jokic on his own made them a 6th place team, which is why the Warriors played them in the first round. So, unlike the Heat, Cavs, and Pacers, the Nuggets of the playoffs were the same as in the regular season.
Morant missed the Warriors last 2 wins in the Memphis series, the only significant injury from Warriors opposition over the 4 game series. )
“How it’s supposed to be” according to whom? So players are stuck wherever they happen to be drafted? Or if a player gets traded it’s their own fault and they’re no longer “pure” in your eyes? Give me a break. This mentality is toxic.
Good now so will not hear those click bait rumors of him going to the Lakers or any other team. Face it him and LeBron will not be team mates.
Well you never know since Lebron could opt out after next year LOL
@arc89 unless the Lakers are under .500 and GSW offers Wiggins and Podz for Bron and Bronny.
Lebron may very well yet be a Warrior, but Steph will never be on any other team.
Lakers will keep both because they will put people in the seats. Unless LeBron forces a trade it will not happen
why would Lebron want to waste his final seasons playing on a bad team?
Why would the Warriors want to gut their team for a guy who is going to retire? LeBron has got maybe 2 years left. Podz has 15+ with upside. It would be the Parish trade all over again. Wiggins will rebound next season and offer far more trade value than Bronny.
Because he can still be the guy in LA. It won’t be too long before LeBron wouldn’t be the #1 on a good team. Would he be willing to play second or third fiddle on another team? I’m not sure about that.
Also its the Lakers, they don’t need a single player to put people in the seats. They are the most popular USA sports team.
The Lakers aren’t even in the top 10. Trading LeBron would make things even worse.
Davey you may have put your foot in your mouth on this one. Get ready for the comments about the Yankees Cowboys Packers Irish Trojans etc, etc. This could be good… is it too late to delete it buddy?
If anyone wants to argue the Lakers arent popular that’s on them!
Popular, yes. “The most popular,” no !!
Those will never stop. Luka, Giannis, Steph, KD, Jokic will always be linked to L.A via the pro Laker Media trying to talk things into existence. At the very least it’s to appeal to the masses. The ratings darlings known as Laker fans. This has been happening since nba games have been on TV and won’t be changing anything soon. Fox, ESPN, doesn’t matter. I’m sure you’ve noticed any hour long show about basketball is forty, forty five minutes Lakers. Fifteen, twenty minutes rest of the league. Doesn’t even change when the Lakers suck, which they do.
Get Nostalgic all you want …… group hug !!!!
Lakers and Warriors are done ……
Truth….This contract will age like Bron or Dames, not well. Thanks for everything you’ve done. Here, have this.
Oh good now i can use that quote when Warriors make the playoffs again next year. Watch you backtrack they are done.
If you’re talking to me, I don’t make excuses and I’ll give them flowers if they do. Obviously I’d rather my team win but I can still enjoy other players or good teams and call a spade a spade.
Yes but curry is elite and curry elite means put Milton, heild, Anderson throw up a prayer for Draymond we are a 60 win team.
Not only has it been hilarious watching the Knicks never win a title in our lifetimes, but it will be even funnier in a couple months when the Lakers are under .500 and Lebron requests a trade to GSW, who trade Podz and Wiggins for Bron and Bronny, and then the Warriors 3-peat again while the Knicks don’t even sniff the ECF and go into a rebuild again.
How is NYC “the mecca” of basketball when yall are so bad at it??? LOL
Oh Davey…
That’s not even possible, Davey. Think you’ll find those teams can’t even aggregate players. It’s one for one straight-up swap territory. How’s that working money wise? lol.
KnickerbockerAl , 51 years sure is a long time ago, isn’t it? I can’t imagine what a lifetime of losing must have felt like.
But don’t be so bitter. You’re always welcome to visit here to sample that sweet smell of success.
Well Davey is clearly an idiot, but he’s not entirely wrong about NY. The Knicks are bad, and have always been bad. They don’t know what success is, and aren’t likely to anytime soon. Playing in a big city isn’t really relevant. New York isn’t what it used to be, it’s no longer a destination city, it’s losing population and the city has been trashed. Nobody is envious of New York, and New Yorkers thinking that living there makes them special is laughable, at best. The warriors were bad for a very long time, and it comes off as immature and loserish to pretend that recent success makes your team the greatest of all time. Recency bias is lame, and a sign of youth.
This has Kobe’s last few years written all over it…
Over the hill defence first guy being paid like a starter…
Ageing scoring PG whose defence is constantly slowing down defensively…
Some young players to give hope… But too much money tied up in the vets…
All that is missing is a Kobe style SG and coach roulette…
If you’re talking about Draymond, his work on offense is just as important as his defense. He does all the things that don’t show up on the scoreboard.
#factsmatter
Now trade Payton and Waters (or waive)for a C. Waive Spencer and sign Post
Kelly Olynyk
Spencer or Rowe whoever is the other two way guy. You need one C!!!! Doesn’t Kerr remember Luc Longley or David Robinson?
Get this money…
If only this would put to rest the nonsensical media stories about Steph possibly seeking greener pastures because the warriors current roster is failing him.
I really don’t get what people want.
Come on Giants74 you’ve been around. People love to complain !!
When times are good they complain, when times are bad they complain. Head coach and GM needs to be fired and your favorite team’s roster is not constructed properly.
It’s all real simple. Misery seeks company. I fall into the Trap sometimes and respond as an insult will dig into me but later I regret the revenge and vow to do better. I try to give Fair opinions on my teams and on other guys teams.
I love sports I love talking about sports and try to be real. But yeah, most love to complain and complain about what you wrote. It’s just life. We roll with it and try to be better.
Maybe another month or so and Training Camps will open. I can’t wait !! Hopefully by then my crappy Red Sox season will be forgotten LOL
I am enjoying all the warrior haters claiming the warriors are over and not a playoff team. The same thing was said in 2022 and they won. With Curry anything can happen. Look at how many said team USA was going to lose. Curry desire and attitude gave them a gold medal.
I think the roster is better than last year’s. Anything can happen in the playoffs and I think they’ll make it. Their defense is way better so it’s going to be an interesting year.
