Stephen Curry‘s decision to sign a one-year extension, a commitment through the 2026/27 season, shows that he still expects the Warriors to be contenders in the coming years, he told Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.
“It’s still about winning,” Curry said, “and taking the steps necessary to give ourselves a chance. The standard hasn’t changed. The expectation hasn’t changed.”
Curry wants to remain a Warrior for the rest of his career. He’ll be 39 by the end of his contract.
“I’ve always said I wanted to play for one team my whole career,” he said. “So it’s good to get (the extension) question out of the way and give complete focus to basketball and to the season.”
We have more on the Warriors:
- Curry’s one-year extension will pay him $62.6MM in 2026/27. Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report explains why Curry’s salary won’t have massive implications regarding the luxury tax and tax aprons and answers several other questions related to the most lucrative one-year extension in NBA history.
- The Warriors will begin training camp in Hawaii, returning there for the first time since 2007, according to a team press release. They will also have a preseason game against the Clippers in Honolulu on Oct. 5.
- The Warriors believe they’ll improve upon last season’s 10th-place finish in the Western Conference, but even with their roster adjustments, that might prove difficult, Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area writes. Poole anticipates that if the Warriors are at least in the middle of the standings at the halfway point, they’ll pursue a significant deal before the trade deadline.
All the warrior haters will claim they are done but they will be better than last year. Kuminga is only 21 with TJD and Podziemski they got younger.
What do you think will happen to all these haters if the Warriors win the title this year using a primary playoffs lineup of TJD-Draymond-Kuminga-Moody-Curry?
I got a gooood feeling about this year…
I like the way you think but if they play Moody that will be a big mistake. He really doesn’t have what it takes to be a significant NBA starter. He doesn’t have that killer instinct. He’s just a guy out there running around.
Klay had that Cutthroat attitude, “I’m going to destroy you.” Moses Moody not so much. I’d rather they get rid of him in a trade.
@Gary just remember Moody was the only one who showed out in the play-in vs the Kings. Podz was -7 with 5 points in 24 mins, Moody was +3 with 16 points in 15 minutes. Moody is the better SG of those two, and an intriguing Kawhi Leonard-style player but who is more a SG than a SF. Injuries permitting, you will see it this year. That lineup I posted is gunna cook many teams, this year….
Well Moody is going to have even a tougher time earning minutes this season with all the players on the wing and shooting guard. And he’ll have to prove it in practice. Nobody is gifted game time minutes.
I would bet a box of Dunkin’ Donuts that Moody is traded sometime between now and the trading deadline. Maybe in Camp, maybe at the deadline, but he will be traded. They cannot and will not give him the extension he, his agent, and many others think he “deserves.”
They will make up excuses like the warriors didn’t have a tough schedule in the playoffs.
Oh yeah, “Steph needs help” turns to “The other team had injuries” so fast, yet we just keep seeing it happen over and over…
The the fans who understand my projection
6th seed Nuggets
7th Pelicans
8th Suns
With current kind of roster, Warriors are fighting for 9th seed
Warriors swept Rockets last year. Even Rockets fans think they’ll be better than Warriors, Lakers and Clippers next season because the stars are old next season
This is why I have a problem with you dorks. To be delusional about your own team is understandable. But to just be so incredibly ignorant and incessant that everyone is going to rue the day they doubted this pathetic team is so annoying and unfounded.
Your team got bounced in the play in after barely holding off the Rockets late season push. They lost a pretty large piece of their culture in the offseason. And you add Kyle Anderson and Buddy Bahama so now its a championship team?
You got to watch your team have massive success. When will it set in that nothing lasts forever?
look everyone the warrior hater is back WB. These rocket fans are still bitter about never winning during their window. boo hoo. Not even close to the same team. Also The large piece of the culture is not the player he used to be. Last year Wiggins and Green missed a lot of games. Now its time for the young players to step up.
@washington_bonercats – did you…not just see the Olympics? Steph Curry is the best player in this league and can win with the right roster around him. He didn’t have that roster last year. This year is better than last year. Klay and CP3 were BAD PLAYERS last year! You are acting like they are still superstars and losing them and replacing them with Anderson, Melton and Buddy is a bad move – laughable analysis.
Also if Draymond does not get suspended they finish top 6 EASILY. Grow up. I know your fave team has never won anything before so you think “Ok, its finally over” but its not. We are watching Curry’s massively long dynasty and chosing to hate it, not enjoy it. Are you arguing Kuminga/Moody/TDJ/Podz are awful players who will never win in this league? You dont know ball then. Stop talking.
You said these exact statements in 2020-21 and were made to look a fool in 2021-22. That will happen again.
Your take away from the Olympics is that Steph is good enough to carry any team he’s on to a championship? You must be really high on the Lakers then lol.
I never brought up CP3… and only brought up Klay as he related to the culture of that team. So great reading skills there. On top of that, I didnt say the additions of Anderson and Hield were bad. I said it didn’t make them contenders. Have you noticed that only Warriors fans seem to disagree with that statement? Is it possible that your own hubris is preventing you from seeing something that everyone else is seeing? Also never brought up the young guys but again you guys seem to have narratives already lined up to support claims no one has made.
Love the Draymond stuff too. This year he’s actually gone down in age and started meditating so he’s gonna save this sinking ship. I cannot fathom the BS you seem to justify on a daily basis just to remain of fan of your franchise.
Not sure where you’re getting that I said anything like this in 20-21. Thats just a lie lmao. My hatred for the Warriors started when Draymond stomped on Domas and demanded to be celebrated for it.
I cannot wait for this season. Hope you guys enjoyed the offseason. I’ve missed you. I’ll leave you with something nice….
HEEEEEEEEEE’SSS BAAACKKKKKKKKK
Now that is funny. I guess you were Ok with Domas pulling down Thompson on the play trying to injure Thompson leg. Don’t believe me look how he grabbed Thompson shirt and started pulling him down for no reason to the ground. Oh wait it is OK to injure another player. Sabonis acting as if he was hurt. SMH
Going to be nice to see you team miss the playoffs for how many years its been???
Number 1 – that is a hilarious way to remember those events.
Number 2- it’s been 1 year since the Kings were in the playoffs… sweet burn
You can go look up the events its on youtube but of course you hate to see sabonis cheap shot on Thompson. Remind me when the Kings won a playoff series was it 30 years ago? No championships ever.
This is what you guys result to when faced with facts. Can see it a mile away. I say your team is not good enough this year and you’re obligated to rail on the easiest target in sports. Congrats.
Im well aware of the Kings underachieving for 2 decades. But unlike you sour people, I wasn’t telling everyone in 2018 that my team has what it takes and any opinion other than that is just “hate from trolls”.
Can you explain to me how the 07’ Sacramento Kings relate to 24-25 Warriors roster?
I feel you Wash. The entire 80s 90s and half of the next decade was pure crap as far as the Warriors were concerned. Couldn’t get anything right as we watched the Lakers dominate for decades. We were the laughing stock and no prospects for getting any better.
To make matters worse Chris Mullin and a couple of other GM’s drafting was horrible for 20 years. Patrick O’Bryant, Todd Fuller, Ike Diogu, Michael Pietrus, Juri Welsh.., that’s just off the top of my head. The team was crappy and didn’t improve in the draft. Horrible.
It wasn’t until Jerry West came along and gave advice that the Warriors finally came together and had success.
Thank you Gary. I have nothing but respect for you. I don’t mean to lump you into my statements but I guess that’s unavoidable. I have a deep respect for your love of the Warriors for what it’s worth.
We’ve bumped heads but then settled it as passionate basketball fans. I feel you now because you sent a really nice note a month or two back. You’re good with me the rest of the way, and I hope the same for you towards me. All good bro.
Good luck to the kings, they’re trying just as hard as any other team to make it happen. Great coaching, I love Mike Brown, some really solid players and a major stud in Fox. No reason they can’t put it together this coming year and make it to the Western Conference finals. They have all the tools. They need health and some breaks like every team. With the experience of the last two seasons maybe this is the year they break through?
Lol now you are playing the victim card.
Kings are never going to win a champioship. They haven’t even won a playoff series in 20 years.
You have some nerve to trash Warriors, who just won a championship just 2 years. 4 titles in 10 years. I’m fine with that.
Kings are perennial losers and will remain that way. Your trolling isn’t going to change anything. Have fun losing, you losers.
Oh pu-leeze, you literally opened with:
“This is why I have a problem with you dorks. To be delusional about your own team is understandable. But to just be so incredibly ignorant and incessant that everyone is going to rue the day they doubted this pathetic team is so annoying and unfounded.”
with “washington” in your screen name? You are tattooing it on your face that you dont know ball, why should anyone do anything but laugh at you? Us Warriors fans have been hated on since day 1 of the 2015 title, and it has never stopped. Even when we took a year off everyone was like “Warriors are OVER” but no, they were wrong. You are copying this EXACT narrative again…get new material buddy. Hold this L….
Davey Im a Kings fan… “Washington Bonercats” is from an old funny or die sketch about the old name of the Washington Commanders (as I am a DC football fan). Not sure what any of that has to do with anything you or I have said. I don’t think you do either.
I do love how mad you are by being confronted with the reality of the Warriors situation. Now this is somehow “the league has hated US for a decade because STEPH CURRY”
Your lack of awareness is impressive. Please continue to type paragraphs without saying anything.
Davey J didn’t see heild lobbing bricks in Philly or Melton in a body cast most of last year. If If If If. Anderson hits a 3 let’s applaud. When Moody or TDJ or podz or kuminga actually do something in this league, then start talking.
Heild and Melton are bench players so there is not a lot on their shoulders. After watching Thompson play last year Heild just needs to hit 3s to take his replacement because Thompson defense is not very good anymore. Melton is brought in for his defense. Warriors problem last year was their defense and blowing so many leads.
@ WB, now you’ve done it lol.
here he is showing up to hate on the warriors as usual. Yep his team has no chance to win but here you are pretending the same on the warriors.
May can’t come soon enough ahahah. I’m saving these quotes.
@ Nrg – Yeah they’re not very big fans of mine lol. Hope you had a nice offseason
Not a fan of anyone who points out the obvious. It’s like these Warriors diehards can’t enjoy any other players or teams, no matter how good.
All even meaning healthy, I’d take the Kings finishing ahead of Golden State. The narrative of Steph playing well in two games over a tournament that runs for ten days will automatically translate to success in a 82 games season @ his age without any second option scorer is beyond reasoning with.
Just cause we say Warriors are done. Doesn’t mean all are haters. It happens, nobody beats Father Time. Warriors can still be a dangerous playoff team. Teams could overlook them. But to go to NBA finals. Those days are done.
Let’s wait and see about that Al. Father time can be pushed aside and thus he is not undefeated. He can be challenged and bumped to the side for a few years.
Al you should know this if you played Sports and were serious about continuing on and kicking assets. Some guys call it quits at 40. Not me I’m still balling. Father time is shoved down the road and flat on his face for now. I’ll talk to him in 5 years.
Dude, I still ball at 48 and father time kicks my butt. I’m not nearly as good as I use to be and come the next morning my knees and ankles hurt so bad but I’m still better than 75% percent of the people I play against but Father Time makes it so I can’t play more then twice a week.
Back and forth to the refrigerator doesn’t count
Sometimes after running all day I want to crawl INTO the refrigerator LOL
Love it Chuck. Pick up ball the rest of our life if we stay healthy. There’s a game everywhere. The local park, LA fitness, if you want to ball you can find one. I always have my shoes in the trunk ready to roll. Except now at this age in my shoes are arch supports and in my bag Advil LOL
Well, at 68, I can no longer defend, otherwise the offense required an adjustment. 3 point shot works if people ignore you out there. Everyone is going to double team Curry.
Very impressive Sam. Heck I couldn’t defend at 28 !! LOL The great thing about Hoops is that the outside shot gets better over time. I guess if you fling it the same way 30,000 times you’re bound to improve.
A sad fate for a former point guard (from before the 3-point existed ;)
Not the same team as last year. That is the mistake the haters are making. The new CBA hurt the warriors in handcuffing them on payroll. They could sign any free agents the last 2 years that didn’t make bottom payroll. Now that they shed payroll they can sign players again and make moves mid-season. They have a lot more room to make move if somebody comes available during trade deadline unlike before.
Except you also said they were done before they won again in 2022. So that does in fact make you a hater. Especially when you’re a fan of a subpar team that is a bottom dweller and laughingstock of the league. Honestly can’t believe anyone still publicly acknowledges they are fans of the Knicks. What a joke of a team!
Ok but you yourself have hated the Warriors this entire time. You arent talking about yourself. You ARE a hater! You said these exact words in 2020-21 and got exposed for being a worthless hater who doesnt know ball, and its gunna happen again….
Knicks fans still dont know what winning a title is like, yet posture like they know ball better than everyone, it’s both corny and sad. Delusion is what the rest of the Curry-owned NBA lives through…
Al- Don’t waste your energy on trying to be logical with these people. They cling to the past and will do so until Steph either retires or goes to play for a real contender. Until that day comes, the looney bin (unfortunate pun) will keep rocking.
Why are you here? Oh wait because you are just here to troll.
And you’re here to do what exactly? Claim your team is the best in the league and throw a piss fit when someone says otherwise?
Boner , you’re obviously a reasonable and intelligent person. Can you explain to those of us that don’t know you why you’re so angry?
Like we were rocking in 2022, 24 months ago. We have a better team now than THAT team. Buddy is better than Poole and Anderson and Melton are better than Otto Porter. Swap out 2022 Klay (post-injury, out of his prime) for Kuminga. What’s the problem here? Oh right, you being utterly clueless about ball.
Steph & Draymond are surefire HOF’s …… but unless they get more talent real fast, reaching the play-in is all they can hope for.
Steph ain’t gonna be able to carry Draymond all by himself…
With Klay gone it’s up to Buddy and the young pups to do the heavy lifting…
Play in at best… Unless other teams suffer injury bugs of course… On paper their youth movement is too far away from their prime year and Draymond is taking too much of their cap space…
Buddy who
Draymond is there for the defense. Wiggins is the one that needs to step up big time to take pressure off Curry. Podz will need to hit 3s and Kuminga going 100% at the rim should make the defense honest. Curry will be double teamed all game long oif somebody doesn’t step up.
Mike.honcho , not so fast. Won 46 last year, and project to be significantly better this year.
– JK, Podz, TJD, and Moody are, at worst, a step up from last year; at best, one of them breaks out.
– Wiggins returns to mean from career-worst yr.
– Anderson, Hield, Melton, Looney and GP2 are deepest bench they’ve had in years.
Memphis back, but Clippers are toast and Lakers are aging. West is brutal, but they should win 50 games.
Nonsense
Cope and seethe.
Davey J knows this roster is filled with a whole lot of let’s hope. Bounce back from this guy and that guy. Big steps up and 40 a night from curry. Sorry about that. To many IFS.
Every team is filled with a lot of Ifs.
They dont have enough talent to win another championship
More talent this year than last yeaer.
More talent than 2022 as well
The whole league is talent deficient right now, it’s a transition era.
