After not acquiring Lauri Markkanen from the Jazz, the Warriors are reportedly not currently showing interest in vying for the services of either Brandon Ingram of the Pelicans or Zach LaVine of the Bulls, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Tony Jones and Anthony Slater.
Even though the Warriors didn’t land either of their high-profile targets of the offseason after also striking out on Paul George, they aren’t panicking. They’re reportedly comfortable entering the season with their current 14-man group.
Both Ingram and LaVine have experienced limited trad markets this offseason, primarily due to their contract situations. LaVine has three years and approximately $138MM left on his deal, while Ingram – who is on an expiring $36MM contract – appears to be seeking a lucrative long-term extension.
The Warriors lost Klay Thompson this offseason but added De’Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and Lindy Waters. They also held firm on their refusal to include Brandin Podziemski in any potential trade for Markkanen, so they’ll be counting on him and fellow young players Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Trayce Jackson-Davis to continue to develop.
Golden State viewed Markkanen as a terrific fit due to his age and contract situation, but now that he’s on track to renegotiate and extend his contract with Utah, they know he’ll be unavailable until at least the 2025 offseason and will continue to evaluate their roster, per The Athletic.
Owning all but one of their future first-rounders (with the exception of a heavily protected 2030 pick) alongside their young players makes the Warriors a threat to pull off a blockbuster at any point of the season, and they’ll look to be buyers up to the February trade deadline.
Until then, the Warriors may seek smaller-scale trades through August and September more actively than what is typical from NBA teams, according to The Athletic’s report.
Low key offseason are always better in the long run. Would have liked to see Lauri in the warriors system, and kudos to them if it’s true they aren’t going to panic and make a dopey Davey style deal.
Since Jazz are gonna overpay LM maybe they’ll feel free to give up Kessler. And what about Vecevic. There’re bodies that they could pursue.
They being GSW
Highway, what are your expectations for the Warriors this upcoming season, and what are the best and worst case scenarios?
46-46 last year. Draymond missed a lot of games, Wiggins and Klay sub-par. Roster has been upgraded a bit.
Worst case, they finish 12th in West, 41-41. Marginal improvement in young core, Wiggins doesn’t return to old form.
Best case, 54-38. Kuminga, Podziemski take a larger step, and Wiggins returns to form
41-41 will be more in the 9 or 10 range. How competitive the west will be I doubt any team runs away with the division. Other than facing the Jazz and Blazers any team can beat any team next year.
Loving the Dubs offseason, Draymond playing more games alone will mean more regular season wins. Assuming Post gets the 15th spot:
Steph
Dray
Kuminga
Wiggins
Hield
Anderson
Moody
Jackson-Davis
Podziemski
Looney
Melton
Payton II
Santos
Waters III
Post or ???
2w: Beekman+Plowden+Spencer (or Post)
Really even and deep roster now, unlike last years’ small guard marathon. Would like to see Wiggins, Looney and GP2 shipped out in a trade more than any other players. That might be the package GSW offers at the deadline for any high salary player. GSW has many options. Losing out on PG13 and Lauri isn’t that big a deal.
Idk when Draymond played without Steph he got like 20 wins lmao
Green only played a little over half the games with a bunch of nobodies. Look how many players are still in the NBA from that team. Not many.
@arc89 exactly, lol imagine thinking the 2019-20 rebuild team is the exact same talent level as this current roster?
Knowing ball? File404 not found
The funny thing is the only players left from that team is 3 players. Many are not even in the NBA anymore. The warriors were using G league players and traded away the vets since they were not winning that year.
That’s a real turd in the punch bowl as grandma used to say, at night
Lavine for Ingram, can’t see either team being interested but as a Bulls fan I would take any salary matching trade for Lavine available, he’s a good player and alright to watch but these dramatics have reached their end
Why would the Pelicans want that contract??? this is why LaVine is untradeable, he still has 3 season left on his contract. Ingram is also younger.
They would need to attach lots of assets to Lavine to get rid of him indeed.
The Pelicans arent desperate like the Bulls. Ingram is still an all star level talent and he is younger and better than Lavine.
Bulls showing no interest in LaVine either.
About as much interest as LaVine has shown in defense. Or passing.
I don’t think Brandin is some superstar who plans to replace Steph when he’s gone. Warriors should trade him for a more difference maker.
Brandin and Kerr do not get along. Brandin said he doesn’t fit the Kerr system and would never play for him again after world cup.
Ingram’s name is literally in the article and you can’t spell his name right? Since there is no way you are referring to Podz since he definitely didn’t play in the world cup.
My response was to mlbnyfan who spelled it that way. Do you read all the comments? I guess not. Second Ingram did play for Kerr and he said he did not like Kerr’s offense and would never play for him again since he rode the bench a lot by playing no defense. So where does Podz come into the conversation?
How Cleveland and New Orleans haven’t lined up on a trade yet is beyond me .
Kenny Atkinson doesnt want to trade Jarrett Allen and the Pels already got a PG in Murray, so it doesnt make sense for them to get Garland. I dont see how that would work unless the Cavs are having a bad season and make a move at the deadline.
Ingram doesn’t fit and his contract demands don’t either. He’s also injured too much. You want a guy who can play at least 65 games easily. Ingram hasn’t done that since he was a rookie.
Not a whole lot of guys playing at least 65 game’s in the NBA now a days, a rarity especially your so called stars. Regular season don’t mean much either. Healthy at playoff time matters. Both missed quite a bit of time last season.
Nor should they show any interest in either unless they are planning on not winning.
Nobody wants those 2 players. There is no market for them says a lot.
Tough break for Ingram. He’s likely to make no more than 30 mil per as a free agent…
As long as Mike Dunleavey Jr is involved with the Warriors, they won’t be a playoff team. Just like they weren’t when he played for them
when he was asst GM they won. So you think they should trade way all their draft picks and young assets. SMH
