Load management for Sixers superstar center Joel Embiid includes the preseason. The team announced on Sunday that Embiid will not play in any remaining preseason games this month, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps relays.
The decision is due to left knee management. Embiid met with doctors on Thursday and it apparently went well, according to Bontemps. The goal is to get the seven-time All-Star through the regular season in good shape and to have his knee as close to 100% as possible for the postseason.
According to Embiid, he lost 25-to-30 pounds during the offseason and is aiming to lose more in accordance with his conditioning. The 2023 winner of the Most Valuable Player award appeared in just 39 games last season due to torn lateral meniscus in the knee. He was still limited by the injury when he returned late in the season, as well as during the Sixers’ playoff series against New York.
It’s up in the air whether Embiid will suit up when Philadelphia opens the regular season at home against the Bucks on Oct. 23.
I cant decide who the most overrated, cant-get-it-done superstar of recent times is between Embiid, Harden, Westbrook, Beal or Towns. Bunch of ball hogs, all of them.
I can’t say any of those guys are overrated but if you’re asking which of them is least likely to be able to carry a team talent wise, it’s probably Beal and then everyone else. embiid and towns you maximize their potential by feeding them and harden and Westbrook you need to give them control to maximize their ability. Beal needs to have control and you also need to feed him the ball to get absolutely everything you can from him. And he’s a great player but his talent gets wasted when he’s not the center point of the offense.
I wouldn’t call them ball hogs personally but they do require an investment from an offensive standpoint to make the most of the talent they bring.
Well said scruff,
I 100% agree with your Beal pick. Guy is a super talent, but he’s the one of those five that makes the least impact with the ball in his hands. Last year’s attempt by the Suns to make him a PG proved that out. I would take Beal on my team gladly, but he would have to come with, and agree to play second fiddle to Embiid, Towns, Westbrook or Harden.
I’m tired of hearing the ball hog thing. Harden, Westbrook, Towns and Embiid need to be focal points of their team’s offensive scheme to be most effective. It’s not like they’re playing school yard pickup though. The offence is designed around them, the coaching staff step back and let them be the high usage guys they need to be, and their teammates let them do their thing.
Jordan was a ball hog, and other than Scottie, there wasn’t a Bulls coach, executive or player that had a single issue with that.
The key for the legacy of the guys that are known as “ball hogs” is if they’re able to adapt once they don’t have the talent to be the focal point anymore. I loved AI, but he couldn’t adjust, and it tarnishes his legacy. It took Melo and Vince some time, but they both got there, and have been able to keep more of their aura.
Something especially fitting about the term “Load management” being used to describe Embiid.
Typical Embiid.
“Left-knee management” …….. and it’s the pre-season.
Where’s Teacher at ?
Who cares?
I muted him after two comments. I don’t mind good trolls, but his game is weak.
They should just shoot that knee and be done with it. Replace it with a fiberglass joint implant so Embiid can soar to the basket like a pole vaulter. Problem solved.
Joe has lost a 25-30 pounds?!? No longer in competition with Towns for LLA* award. Maybe that knee will have a chance.
League Lard Ass
If you have to explain your acronym then it’s probably not a good one.
