Lakers All-NBA forward LeBron James and his son, rookie guard Bronny James, made league history on Tuesday. When the duo suited up together in L.A.’s 110-103 victory over the visiting Timberwolves, they become the first father-son NBA tandem to do so, writes Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
“That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, something I will never forget,” LeBron said during a postgame presser. “No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.”
“I tried not to focus on everything that was going on around me and tried to focus on going in as a rookie and not trying to mess up,” Bronny said. “But yeah, I totally did feel the energy, and I appreciate the Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad.”
There’s more out of Los Angeles:
- The Lakers appear to have wholly bought into first-year head coach JJ Redick‘s methods, writes Jovan Buha of The Athletic. “The game plan, the schemes that he had on both ends of the floor, he trusts us,” All-Star Los Angeles center Anthony Davis said. “We trust him, as far as what he teaches us, what he wants us to do on the floor on both ends and it’s our job to go execute it. I think we were very prepared tonight.”
- After a 15-year pro playing career and a successful broadcasting run, Redick‘s restlessness as a basketball brain eventually compelled him to try out coaching for size, as he told Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times. “At some point, you just kinda have to listen to your soul and not be afraid of the consequences of whatever happens afterwards,” Redick told Woike of his decision to pursue the Lakers’ coaching gig. “Whatever I envisioned in my previous life, that’s gone. This is who I am now. I’m a coach. And so I don’t feel like tonight is at all about me. It’s about our team.”
- After being hired by the Lakers this summer, Redick pledged that he would run his offense through Davis. As Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times writes, many of the nine-time All-Star’s teammates looked to feed him early and often in Tuesday’s opener. “He is the main focal point for us offensively and defensively,” LeBron said of Davis. “We got to make sure we continue to give him the ball. I think the coaching staff and JJ , they do a great job of always putting him in positions where he can be the recipient of the offense.” The 6’10” big man scored 36 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the floor and 13-of-15 shooting from the foul line in his season debut, while also pulling down 16 boards.
Lebron: stunk and needed AD to carry him and his son
Steph: 1 RB away from a +23 triple double in 25 mins
Cool story bro
If Steph himself read this comment he would cringe.
Cringey J with his L takes again
Davey, obviously Curry doesn’t care about individual stats and accomplishments. The Warriors are the same way.
Remember when Klay had 60 points in the first three quarters and sat out the entire fourth?
Same thing here. If Steph or The Warriors cared about triple doubles he would have gone back into the game to get that one rebound.
It’s all about rings in this league.., and well it’s also about salary. That is a pecking order, trophy type, major accomplishment as well. The guys with the larger salaries get the preferred Locker locations, seats on the bus or plane, etc.
Okay thirdly longevity. Marginal player who can say he played in the league 15 years is definitely something he can hang his hat on. You don’t last that long without some serious skill in some regard or another. Even if it’s just being good teammate.
Those are the three things guys care about when talking about their careers. The salaries during, and the Rings and years in the league later.
In thing I know but, the less lebron and bronny articles we get the better. He’s not the quality of different leagues around the world letalone the nba. In a point guard body without point guard skills. I highly doubt he’s the next Iverson. By highly doubt I mean, he’s going nowhere and just stealing money just like brons friend coaching. The 3 of them will sit back over a glass one day laughing….we really robbed these gutless clowns, SMH. Love it as Boston fan.
Robbed them of what ?
Not money, as Jr will probably make them money ….. you gotta big heart if your caring about Maxwell Lewis”s lost minutes as a Celt’s fan, good for you
If the Lakers want to have a big show for Lebron and play a player that could never play in the NBA on his own… great good job.
No real contender takes them seriously anyways.
So have at it. Give Bronny the MVL, Most Valuable Laker, award, put your Xmas tourny banner in the rafters…its who the Lakers are now.
Nrg82, Yes you’re right about that but if a guy like that is going to make it, it’s going to take a little longer.
Look at Gary Payton 2. He has a point guard’s body and it took until almost 30 years old to get a regular rotation spot on an NBA team and a regular contract.
He’s super athletic great on defense but only 6’3. The only position he’s capable of playing without handles, without vision, Without creativity, Etc is small forward or the three and D spot.
Maybe Bronny can do the same thing unless he has the point guard instincts to begin with and can develop those to an NBA level. That remains to be seen because he’s still very very young. We’ll see how this plays out.
He’ll be given every chance because of his father and that’s not a bad thing. Nepotism is everywhere and everyone knows it. The fire station, the manager’s office, pastors, it’s everywhere. As well it should be.
Oh another quick note, he’s not stealing money. LeBron took two point something million less than he could have, which essentially pays Bronny’s salary. Through all the criticisms I thought that was a pretty admirable thing to do. It’s almost like acknowledging that the kid is here because of Dad and Dad will go ahead and pay for it.
You can never go wrong running your team by AD!
El Don Always Wrong, yes that sounds great on paper and a can’t lose scenario, but you’re forgetting that AD gets nicked up and sidelined quite a bit.
You better have other options on the team and backups to cover those periods.
Oh and quit liking your own posts. I’ve never seen a thumb up within 4 seconds that wasn’t from the poster himself LOL
Gary, Been reading your posts for about a good 4-5 years. I value your opinion. Good insight and not coming all biased opinions. Glad you haven’t changed.
El Don is the only guy who mutes me. I like giving him a hard time but it’s nothing vicious. Would never call him a bad name or anything. But I think his posts are off base and I don’t mind saying it lol. That probably makes me wrong because my posts are no better than his.
Quick note, you always have nice things to write to me. And you’ve done that for at least 5 years !! That is much appreciated as I always try to tell you. You have the gift of encouragement that’s for sure.
I just love talking hoops with anyone who isn’t biased honestly. I love the game and I love hearing different opinions and mindsets from fans who are passionate as much as I am about the game, and that includes you.
FWIW: I’m a Bulls fan so it’s not like I have anything to discuss positively about my team since 1998 lmao.
Yes they’re in a tough spot right now. But I think they’re trying. I’m not sold on the ability of the coach though and that’s a big element of whether a team succeeds or not. I mean he’s okay and I guess that’s good enough for now until the roster improves greatly.
They need two great drafts with high picks, without selecting a guy like Patrick Williams LOL..
But it will turn around. Every team has its day in the Sun. Sometimes it takes 20 years.
I want Donovan fired. I can’t believe that THT got more mins than Buzelis and Terry combined last night. As for your other comments, yeah we need size and guys who can shoot. Jalen Smith was a good find but we need more of him and guys who can protect the paint and switch. It’ll be a while until the Bulls can be relevant again but I’m hooeful. I have to be since 1998. Lmao
Keep up the hope. It will happen. The warriors were crappy forever until 2015 not counting two years of Baron Davis.
But as I watch the NBA more and more it seems like the number one way to success is the draft. The Warriors did it Curry green Thompson Harrison Barnes Looney and a couple tweaks and trades here and there.
The Celtics are all homegrown guys except for Big Al and recently the giraffe or zebra whatever he is. They’ll be good for a long time.
Look at the Wolves and the Thunder. Also among others, The dominant Spurs of yesteryear were homegrown guys. Duncan Parker Ginobili Etc.
But you have to know how to draft.., not to pick on the Kings but their previous regime was horrible, as was Golden State’s in the 90s and 2000s.
You’ve seen the lists. My goodness horrible. Chris Mullin the GM? Horrible !! Charlotte too. Terrible, terrible draft picks.
Anyway not to be long-winded but I’m pretty sure that’s how you build a winner. Have to draft right in like four out of the 5 previous years and then build something with a free agent or two, and a trade or two and you’re on your way.
Bulls will get it done soon. Keep the faith. It helps to get the number one, two, or three pick once in a while. I remember all the excitement in Chicago with Derrick Rose. Good times !!
