Warriors star Stephen Curry exited Sunday’s home game vs. the Clippers with a left ankle sprain and was ruled out for the rest of the night, according to an announcement from the team (Twitter link).
Curry initially checked out of the game with just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter after turning his left ankle while trying to make a cut (Twitter video link via NBC Sports Bay Area). He returned at the 8:08 mark in the fourth quarter, but aggravated the injury on the Warriors’ next offensive possession and immediately limped to the locker room just 13 seconds after checking back in (Twitter video link).
Curry is no stranger to ankle injuries, having dealt with many of them over the years, dating all the way back to his first few seasons in the NBA. Most recently, he missed three games in March when he sprained his right ankle.
It’s too early to say how much – if any – time this latest ailment might cost him, but head coach Steve Kerr conveyed optimism during his post-game media session. Kerr said Curry referred to the injury as a “mild or moderate” sprain, adding that the 36-year-old would undergo an MRI to confirm the severity, tweets Ohm Youngmisuk.
The Warriors have a back-to-back home set vs. New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday, then will begin a five-game road trip on Saturday in Houston.
Curry hasn’t had any huge games yet this season, scoring between 17 and 20 points in all three of his outings and shooting just 41.5% from the field. But Golden State has been dominant with its two-time MVP on the court, outscoring opponents by 47 points during his 79 minutes of action.
Well that takes a little air out of our wonderful 35 point wins. Can’t even get past the struggling, undermanned Clippers in the first half with a healthy Curry.
Buddy Hield looked more like Buddy Thompson lol. So much for his All-Star game appearance coming in February.
Just kidding, season just started, let’s hope they can sniff a playoff spot.
V encouraging signs from Wiggins so far, Imo hes the key to GSW being either ehhh or contender
Rough sledding for Kuminga so far, you know he’s got numbers dancing in his head right now that amount to dollar bills. While some say that gives extra motivation I actually think most times it creates to much head space in a game that thrives on instincts and well not thinking most the time
He came out in the second I think the first time
As I understand it too the braces prevent a bad sprain but they hurt like hell when you turn it so maybe he misses the first game v the pels and plays the second half.
One reason the Warriors get hurt at home is they get a road f***ing whistle at home from the NBAs s*** refs
Ditch the low cuts….
Kuminga time …
It’s hard to see how this is a playoff team in the west. They are in no man’s land – aging veterans still playing at a high level, but not what they once were, marginal supporting talent, but they win enough to miss the lottery.
Who are the aging veterans playing well? The only two aging people on this roster is Steph and Draymond and only Steph is playing well out of them, as usual lol
Hield is 32 in like a month and averaging 19 ppg so far, so I guess him?
Tbh, there’s nothing to examine in these games yet. The minutes allotment looks like they’re in preseason still. They beat two lottery teams badly, and then lost to a third that has some upside players. Even unlike teams like the Cavs who have only played lottery teams, they haven’t shown much except that Wiggins looks good and Hield has a green light. The Cavs have at least shown that their offense looks completely different (way less Mitchell-centric, with Mobley leading the way in game 1, a diverse offense in game 2, and Garland and Allen backing up Mitchell with Mobley dominating the boards in game 3), without any drop on defense.
Podz needs to play some PG and develop there
So now the team will need to regroup and show they can play without Curry. Podz will be the one taking Curry’s place as starter. 2 reasons they lost last night way too many turn overs and TJD got schooled by the clippers big men. Warriors still need a big body against the better tall men in the league.
Big body defenders are at a premium right now. Similar to 3 and D wings 4-5 years ago.
Kessler Edwards is on the trade block or trade Kuminga to Cavs or Nets to get a Big in return
How will DaveyJ survive now for the next few days?
In all seriousness, GSW has looked really good but they beat Utah and Portland, arguably the two worst teams in the West to start off the season. I think they’ll be 6-8 range if everything breaks even for them. So far, this first week has been as expected for them, blow out wins against homeless teams and a tough L without your best/franchise player isn’t the end of the world. They are deep and can overcome a minor Curry injury. I’d rest him until Saturday. But he is 36 now so injuries are more difficult/longer to recover from, even the most minor of ones.
